  • I love this one!!! Jaco...i miss u so much

  • Sounds like something from outer space!!

  • Seems that most music and jazz went backwards after fusion came out here. The music was supposed to soar and continue to create new and fresh visions and landscapes...but that really didn't happen...most of mankind hath peaked...

  • @videolover61 not really.. Jazz is still going pretty strong, there are still some pretty awesome jazz bands out there. check out The Bad Plus, Joshua Redman, Ari Hoening.. also, Acid Jazz is pretty cool nowadays.. check out Gotan Project and St Germain

  • 00.00 - 02.10

    genius.

  • Albedo ... Jose Meet's Sun Ra" ...

  • Albedo ...

  • Zawinul's synthesizer playing on here is 100% killer. Beautiful.

  • Is the drummer Peter Erskine?

  • @sanjak yes, i guess so... when he still had hairs.. :)

  • @sanjak yes

  • @sanjak Yes

  • Is Joe Z. dead (forget hot to spell his last name)

its hard to beleive he was 49 when weather report got famous after adding Jaco. He was one of those guys thats just blessed with good genes as far as aging goes. Whats his story, did he do any solo work or record with any other well known bands. I read the book about Jaco, How like how Joe doesn't say anything bad about Jaco in the closing where people comment about Jaco. Saying he was the kindest guy, always remembered your birthday.

  • yah hes dead he also was a heavy drinker too and he lived to be lived to be 75 thats long life an he played alot of music alot musicians didnt live to be that long due to all that stress of music moving from one place to another but he did

  • Wayne Shorter always seems so calm and unflappable. This music just rooted me to the spot when I heard it in the '70s.

This band was so unique and different and real.

  • Don't understand all the comments on who did what in this cut. This music is out of this world. A great arrangement!!!

  • yo PrZ if critics didnt like weather report w/Jaco its cuz they mock what thay dont understand. If they cant pigeonhole it theydont like. This era of Weather Report is the pinnacle of virtuousity and the cutting edge of compositionwho cares what critics say.Their profession is ridiculous.

  • Never heard of WR before this, only looked for scarlet woman. I can say that they are interesting, and I like them.

  • Super Mario rocks =)

  • WP!!! At it's best !! Glad i was around to see this all the other great fusion bands!! Light years from where wew are today!! R.I.P. Joe Z!!!

  • The "dream team" of fusion jazz.

  • it's very good indeed, but i still prefer Acuña on drums and Badrena on percussion.

  • And Alphonso Johnson on bass.

  • no way, Jaco rules =)

  • Maybe outside Weather Report. Unfortunately, "Jaco years" are the time of WR decline...

I know, if you knew where I live, I'd be dead by tomorrow...Jaco is probably the best BASS PLAYER, no argument there, but he didn't bring much CREATIVELY to the band. Except his overblown ego and stage eccentricity.

    RIP Joe and Jaco.

  • aaaaw c'mon, Sweetnighter, Tailspinnin, Body, is that creative? Repetitive riffs and psycho jams, i dont think that is much creative, they've used to worry more with rythm than melody.

  • Oh man... I've been listening to WR for 35 years which is like almost your two lifetimes? Believe me, the arguably best WR albums are Mysterious Traveller, Sweetnighter, Tale Spinin', Black Market. Read some OLD reviews by critics who dug this amazing music. OK, Heavy Weather b/c was sooo popular (who wrote 'Birdland'? The most popular one). 'Body' is great, if you listen to it many times, you'll get it. And what's your counter-argument? Portret of Tracy? LOL.

  • Even in 'Jaco years' all best tunes were written by Zawinul. Talk to you in 35 years. Cheers.

  • NO we argue over three views of a secret and barbary coast... havana are all DEAD ROCKING ! sooo... but yeh i no ur point... weather report wer always awsome... not aat a certien time,... just always.

  • I was like you thinking that Jaco is some weird rocker who had no appreciation for real jazz music. And then I discovered that some of the most punchy WR tunes were actually written by him. Shock and horror struck my heart... How about a tune like Three Views of a Secret, huh?

  • Naaaah... Weather Report was Zawinul and Shorter. And since Jaco joined the band, Wayne lost interest, and anything remotely interesting came from Joe. RIP.

PS. To me Jaco was a great jazzman. RIP, too

  • I respect your opinion PrZemek, but i think CREATIVELY talking, Jaco gave a "bass" identity to WR.

No doubt about how great bass players Miroslav Vitous and Alphonso Johnson were on WR but the mark that Jaco Pastorius left in WR music is quite remarkable in every tune of every album Jaco played.

Joe and Jaco were such great music explorers. R.I.P.

  • Thanks for your respectful answer, but I stick to my opinion. Sure, we may differ in our tastes, but the reviews (back THEN) were much more favourable to WR before Jaco joined the band. Cheers.

  • 'Scarlet Woman' got me hooked on Weather Report 35 years ago. It's Alphonso Johnson's tune.

Mysterious Traveller- the arguably best WR album by their best line up.

  • fantastic..
