  • good song! happy birthday neil! imagine clapton and santana wanted him to play in their bands . he was sixteen! he seems to like bimbos. noones perfect!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Remember this when it came out.

  • Thanks for posting! I didn't know about the Neal Schon/Jan Hammer connection.

  • You'd think Neal could afford some furniture.

  • Oh snap, she's cheating on Schon with Hammer. Fists will fly.

  • 0:55 - "OH, LOOK OUT!"

  • 0:55 - "OH, LOOK OUT!"

  • wasn't there another Schon/Hammer video from Untold Passion???

  • I wanna be Neal Schon when I grow up.

  • This is a great song!

  • 4 people are full of...lies!

  • Brings back memories

  • Killer song,Loved it sibe 82

  • nice audi

  • Neal Schon=The best guitarist Santana ever had!

  • Is Neil going for the smallest torso award? He hiked those nu splitters way past his belly button.

  • @jflash214 I think he was trying to look taller. What is he, about 5'6

Both Schon and Hammer are great musicians but that song and vid were as bad as I remembered.

Enjoyed the trip back in time though.

  • @jflash214 Did you see him play guitar? I was just curious

  • @rooseguitar64 bi-curious apparently, whats with the neil schon man crush?

  • @rooseguitar64 Are you serious ..LMAO I nearly fell over holding my sides on that...what I cant understand is why would you comment about his clothes in the first place? My point of reference was the six-triplets he pulls off on the opening cadenza in the lead. Neal has been a pain in my ass for years to listen to and play..

  • Can't get enough of the keyboard guitar. Almost as good as the keyboard necktie.

  • What ever happened to the Key-tar?!

  • Comment removed

  • Neal Schon is a Bay Area Legend man....one of the best in the biz, end of story

  • The girl looks like Pat Benatar's stand-in from the "Love Is A Battlefield" video. Whatever happened to the keytar? Nice wife beater with that god awful tatoo. Neil was only outdone by Jan Hammer's "To Catch A Predator" look. Funny how once stylish 80s fashion looks so warped today.

  • @boredsmile ROFL! nice call!

  • That sucks when Jan Hammer is fucking your wife. He's a creepy sumbitch

  • I want my MTV back! not the crap that its turned into.

  • Great tune. I remember this so very well but listen to Neals voice............listen carefully. It's Vito Corleone singing........lol

  • This was when MTV was real a music tv channel....what it is today is crap geared for shallow girls, bimbos, skanks and dumb asses

  • Wow, Neal sings good on this.

  • hey yeah AUDI , good German car. Enjoy it Jan Hammer

  • wow he was hot!

  • Yup. That's really Jan on the kit.

He also played drums on 'Star Cycle' by Jeff Beck from the 'There and Back' album.

  • Neal Schon is one of the greatest fucking guitarist to ever come out of the Bay Area. He is legend in the S.F. scene.

  • @81Enginek Yes, Neil was hired by Carlos Santana when he was 15. Eric Clapton wanted him to come to London to learn more with him.

  • Serious "frullet"....1/2 Afro 1/2 mullet

  • @Dropanobama1 If I choose not to like somthing then that is my choice. The rest of the world is sick and tired of you Americans tryinig to tell everybody what they should like and what they should not like. I take no shit from someone whos country is being beaten to defete by a 3rd world nation. Next time faggot keep out of my comments. BTW for 41 you have a crap channel and retarded. You try and answer every comment FUCK OFF!

  • Neal needs some furniture...at least a bean bag cushion?

  • Agreed. It was a decent song. A little weird....being in the 'spider web' box? As most kow Jan Hammer had some significant music for Miami Vice show of the 1980s.

  • Hey Neal, you gotta dump that girl ... she's cheating on you man

  • the songs catchy and it rocks out nicely ... good guitar breaks by Schon, as per usual. But if this video were released today, he'd get arrested for tossing that girl around, wouldn't he? I do like the pumping heart tattoo on his bicep, that's a nice touch

  • woah look at Jan Hammer rock every fucking instrument. They could teach Journey a thing or two

  • in the palms of our hands lol

  • Lots of airplay in Milwaukee, WI.

  • The Schon And Hammer albums were way ahead of their time

Untold Passion and Here To Stay still sound great today.

  • @hannahjasmine94

i'm with you, totally obsessed, he is hot, and my parents are probablly really tired of me talking about what he said on an interview! He is a legened and so underrated!!!

  • Though I love his guitar playing Neal's and vocals are so much like all the other rock bands of the late 70' 80's. They nearly all used the same drum beat and unimaginative bass riff's. The few groups that got to the top at that time soon ran out of ideas for guitar riffs. It depends on how you like your music. Some like it fast and like it to change now and then. A name that springs to mind is Eddie Van Halen. Some like the slow beat with no complicated riffs kind of like hip hop.

  • I love Neal' s magic marker tat.

  • Great song by Neal!! I miss this time too.

  • I like Neal Schon from Journey, he has the talent here, But that ugly guy should be out of the video, that is why this video was a joke and MTV did not take it seriously.

  • @clonedkeifer Dude, do you know who Jan Hammer is?

  • the 80's were great...except for those almost chest-high pants...

  • This song made me want a black Les Paul, the riff is sooo solid and he is a great player. Thanks for posting!! This brings back so many memories....

  • I forgot about this song. .this song does ROCK!! I want this on my MP3 player

  • For optimum performance, please set your Marshall amps to 10.

  • How 'bout 11?

  • @cudaclan LOL!

  • This is great! Neal is damn hot! So let's see...not only is he an awesome guitar player but he can sing too. Absolutely amazing.

  • i so miss the 80s

  • I think this almost sounds like a thin lizzy tune. Specially in the beginning in the verse.

  • Killer tune. Love Neil.

  • This song rocks! You, my friend, have no taste.

  • 1980's arama!! What a time warp. Big hair and lots of makeup in the '80's....this was a typical video for that time. Nevertheless, Neal is always smokin' on guitar.

  • Learn to speak.

  • Hey Neal, don't be so sensitive.

  • The ol' wife beater shirt,LOL!!! seriously this was one of my fav vids when we first got cable..

  • You just can't copy Neal's tone.

  • SUH-WEEEEET

Was this his only single while on his solo career?

  • leggings at 1:40....

    uhhhh lol

  • 1:58 GEORGE COSTANZA

  • Neal did this song with Journey at the Frontiers tour in Seattle back in the day! Bryan Adams opened up a great show.....

  • LOL....it's not even a real tat....

    That was kinda cheesy...

  • God I loved this song as a kid....

    Still do :-P

  • 1st I need to say neil and jan both rip!!! Thats a fact. on the other hand it proves that just because you rip does not mean you can write hit songs journey has not been the same without the killer pop touch of steve perry (natural inner ear of everything catchy!!!) This is actually really weird because neils' playing is so melodic.

  • Very catchy and not-so-well-known song performed by two very underrated musicans. Jan has collaborrated with huge variety of musicans and backgrounds, and Neil is a great guitarist who is rarely ever mentioned with great guitarist of the 80s which is a shame.

  • Well i think Neal is one of the best guitarists ever!!

  • The cool thing is that Jan and Neal are no ones fools when it comes to two-timing floozies.

  • This song is sweet! Neal has a great voice

  • No kidding!

  • I don't know what it was with that surge of duos in the early eighties, but they were all so good. Schon & Hammer, Hughes/Thrall, Whitford/St.Homes. This one especially, great tune. Thanks for posting!

  • yeahh and neal knows better not to kiss that slut in the video!!

    (:

    my man!

  • Jan is disgusted at 1:23. He knows she's a ho.

  • wait what? lmao

  • Comment removed

  • neal is the hottest man alive!

its pretty sad that he is 54 years old and im 16.

    but he is still hot!

mann if i could just meet him i woukld like cry!! i want him to give me guitar lessons!

    im obsessed!!

  • met Neil a few years back. He's about 5-7 pretty small guy.

  • This is awesome.

  • This is from 1982. This song ROCKS and never got any radio air play. Always felt it was under-rated for its time!

  • Neal Schon is one of THE BESTplayersfromthe 70s to mid 80s. If youhaven't heard it,check out HSAS with Sammy

  • I know it well my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Eh... It got some radio play, but the label didn't really support it because it was a side project of the two with no future.

If there were a guaranteed follow-up to this effort you may have heard it more on the radio but both of these guys had other things going on...

  • @Goombatz98 I thought I was alone in that! ...lol

  • Man, hadn't heard this one - wicked tune! 1:29 - 1:39 sounds saweeet!!!

  • This was in 82'. I saw Journey perform this live "Day on the Green" on the Frontiers tour Oakland,CA 1983......

  • VIRTUOSO....period

  • thin lissy?

  • lol...........he LOOKS like DYLAN, and sounds vibe/wise like him and then he has a mix of vocals like Tom Petty too!

Then....he shreds that guitar thank god!

  • No way this was 1982 I'm guessing 86 or 87.

  • it's 82, unless they waited 4 or 5 years to make the video after the album came out, which they didn't, because it's 82.

  • Hey has anyone got this song as a mp3 file?? Plz send it to me!! Been serchin for the album for ages and all I want is No more lies. thx

  • sadly, yes. it's too bad that things went worse from "frontiers" on.

  • and journey would have been dropped from their label, as as threatened.

  • Yes, of course you're right 'Jeff. Emotions run high on issues we favor.

Thanx for being cool with your response...

  • Actually, Neal Schon does sing lead vocals on the song "In Self Defense" from the Generations album. Johnathan Cain sang lead on the song "Every Generation". Deen Castronovo sang lead on two songs, "A Better Life" and "Never Too Late". And Ross Valory sang lead on the song "Gone Crazy" from that album as well!

  • yeah have that album.. really cool

  • that was greg rollie. but there voices are pretty similar

  • i used to think neal was so fine until years latter i am gay he did inspire me to play lead guitar

  • If you want to laugh youe a** off pause it at 2:04 and check out Jan's bedroom eyes. Classic!! This freakin song rocks!!

  • Neal missed his rainbow: Edward Van Halen grabbed it first. As guitarists go, Neal is literally one of a million. Guitar based bands come and go. As a singer? hehehehehehehehhe...

Steve Perry put Neal and his band of not-so-merry men on the fucking MAP.

If this weren't true.....I wouldn't be sitting here writing of it. You wouldn't be reading it. And Neal Schon wouldn't be still getting his royalty cheques from Journey!

  • Well said, mate. I'm a keyboardist, and I'm happy to see these two greats playing together.

  • OMG..thanks for posting this video! I wish iTunes would get this song. I played my cassette copy to death in the 80's. I've been trying in vain to find it on iTunes...and I refuse to pay 90.00 plus to get it on the import CD reissue that shows up on eBay.

  • My Guitar God!! Inspired me and to me hes the ONLY Guitarest in my book!

  • Schon is the Man - one of the best!

  • Yeah! Jan Hammer and one of his always-there strap on keytar! Very nice attitude.

  • neal is so freaking underrated....and so under the radar...how? he gigged with Santana...and well...a little ole Band from California...he still playing/touring..and everyone is caught up on the guys that dont...

  • DUDE!!! I totally remember this!!!!

  • Neal Schon inspired me to play guitar.

    I liked this video

  • One of my fav albums like...ever!! Brilliant song! And what a voice Mr Schon has!

  • Who knew that Neal Schon could sing? Gosh, I was so used to seeing him standing still on stage, floating out his notes, letting Steve Perry do all the singing like a good little guitar player. Then, I remember first seeing this video when I was 12 and there's Neal with words to a song coming out of his mouth, and being amazed by how good a singer he actaully was! It kinda makes you wonder why they needed to bring Steve Perry in 1977, if they knew they had more than one guy who could carry a tune

  • I agree, Neal is a pretty decent singer!!

  • Wow, Sarah Palin looked hot in the eighties! :D

  • Reaching there, buddy. lol The actress looks too old for the time frame.

(Why I am perpetuating this, I don't know.)

  • Wow.... It's hard to believe that Jan Hammer went from the Mahavishnu Orchestra to this in just ten years.

    Not bad, just so different.

  • was that george costanza at 1:59 or what? great song...thanks!!!

  • Is Neil still with Journey?

  • yep, the only original member

  • ive never heard this before thnx for sharin it =) (u2 rick!)

  • I love the bandanna around his neck! LOL

  • i love this song just because it brings back memories of 80's cheesiness and the early MTV days when they actually showed great music videos instead of a bunch of self-centered retards living in a multimillion dollar house together and keeping it "real"

  • Jflash,

You hit the nail on the head! MTV has definitely departed from the faith.

    I remember this song well.

  • I haven't watched Mtv since about '89 when they started playing depression music and rap all the time. It seems like they have completely ignored any type of metal or hard rock, instead all they play is divas and overhyped/nontalented rappers

  • -right with you, man!

  • I like it. Sounds like Rick Springfield. The eighties were great.

  • Hiss voice actually sounds like a grittier version of John Waite

  • This is the first time I've heard this. I had no idea Neal could sing like that. He only did back-up with other groups. Anyone know if this is still available.

  • Oh it's on CD..I want to see the vid from the first album. Both CDs are available online

  • Does anyone have a copy of the Schon and Hammer

video 'I'm Talking to You'? I've been looking for that for years. I'm sure it exists somewhere. Then again...a lot of dope was consumed back then!

  • It was on YouTube ages ago, but I cant find it now :( I love that song too!

  • So I'm not crazy!!! I knew there was a video for it! I just want to see it again...What a cool tune.Should have been big, but like a lot of cool tunes, it got overlooked...The only reason MTV probably played it was because there weren't a tone of vids then... (Yeah, they actually PLAYED videos!)Thanks!

    Now--Anyone got it? lol!

  • i take back everything bad i said about neal its perry who is the true asshole if herrbie herbert isnt lieing which i am shure he is not

  • I never knew Neal could sing like this and he was married to my cousin for a short time. He is very underrated asa guitarist. he even performed a song at his own wedding. He also created a band called Hardline with Joe and Johnny Gioelli (also my cousins), who were his wife's brothers. I never realized how well he could sing on his own.

  • I also think perry is all about himself. I think Neal has tried to do several projects outside of journey because he has more music in him that just the middle of the road stuff and there's nothing wrong with that. There is a video about the walk of fame where Neal jokingly says, "let's get steve on the road this year" and it isnt was Steve says but how he says "oh, i heard you were in another band" that gives his flippant attitude away.

  • okay...I love this song...it so so rediculous...but back in the day, It was SEROUSLY cool.

This video is awesome...what's with the "captain kirk" lighting on Neals face in the early half of the video!!??

    Thanks for posting this vid!

  • its on the Journey tour video Frontiers and beyond I believe it was in New Jersey.

  • The backstory of watching Neal and Jan in a love triangle with this hot broad who Neil thinks is around to stay only to be caught as Neal watches from the window that shes meeting with Jan outside in the car. Of course Jan is asking her when she is going to be leaving Neil and shes not really about to do that although she'll continue lying to him and to Neal as well so she can have her cake and eat it too.

  • yea kick that bich out neal lol

  • When I was working at the city dump and I quit for a more prosperous job I walked out singing ''Flies, No more flies''

  • Always loved this song i went to see Paul Rogers on his Muddy Watters blue tour and got to meat both he and Neal out back i told him how much i loved this tune and Edge of the Blade from Frontiers he was super nice and kool great memorys fr sure!

  • I know Jan Hammer is a musical god, but why didn't somebody make him wear a mullet wig on him way back then?

  • Thanks for posting!!! many many memories involved with this song, back when rock rocked F--- Yeah!

  • I had this single on my turntable for at least two months straight. It was literally the only song I listened to during that time. There were days when I'd listen to it 60 times in a row (what a LOSER). There's also a great live version when Neal was with Journey when he gets hit in the head with a bottle thrown by a fan, but keeps playing. When he gets to the part where he kicks the chic out and says, "No more!", he says, "No more bottles!" in the live version and the crowd goes nuts!

  • Neal is definitely the best-looking member of Journey. He should grow his afro back--stat. His guitar playing is passionate, swoon-inducing stuff. I hope Journey reunites (w/ Steve Perry) soon, because I'm too young to have seen them together live before. Perry is a truly great singer, but it's not the 80s anymore, and he can't succeed again without the rest of the band.

  • thanks for posting, great song, great solos.

  • Neil is a great person..he stumbles sometimes like we all do. Since we do not really know him inside like Jehovah Jireh does..let's not be too hard on him. every time I have seen him he was and is the consumate professional and shows he really cares by talking and signing autographs, taking handshakes and hugs. Rock on Neil. Jesus loves You.

  • schon is a great gutarist and an alright singer but he not that good of a person

  • it was awesome when jan came out at the erwin center in austin and they did this.

  • o yea...he's also sexy!!!!!!!!!

  • You know neal may not have the greatest voice.

    But his music is amazing.

Beyond the thunder album is awesome!!!!!!!

  • Loved this video way back when---Neal rocks!!!

  • Sweet!! My favorite video from back in the day!! Throw that bitch out the house, Neal!! Rock that key-tar, Jan!!

  • damn. i do live in the city. all i thought when i watched the video was "wow. nice apartment."
