good song! happy birthday neil! imagine clapton and santana wanted him to play in their bands . he was sixteen! he seems to like bimbos. noones perfect!!!!!!!!!!
@rooseguitar64 Are you serious ..LMAO I nearly fell over holding my sides on that...what I cant understand is why would you comment about his clothes in the first place? My point of reference was the six-triplets he pulls off on the opening cadenza in the lead. Neal has been a pain in my ass for years to listen to and play..
The girl looks like Pat Benatar's stand-in from the "Love Is A Battlefield" video. Whatever happened to the keytar? Nice wife beater with that god awful tatoo. Neil was only outdone by Jan Hammer's "To Catch A Predator" look. Funny how once stylish 80s fashion looks so warped today.
Agreed. It was a decent song. A little weird....being in the 'spider web' box? As most kow Jan Hammer had some significant music for Miami Vice show of the 1980s.
the songs catchy and it rocks out nicely ... good guitar breaks by Schon, as per usual. But if this video were released today, he'd get arrested for tossing that girl around, wouldn't he? I do like the pumping heart tattoo on his bicep, that's a nice touch
@HeartAttackMan74 - Jan Hammer is good, but as a drummer he's nothing even close to Steve Smith. Steve is the most well rounded drummer on the planet today. He can play rock, jazz, pop, and just about anything else with ease.
i'm with you, totally obsessed, he is hot, and my parents are probablly really tired of me talking about what he said on an interview! He is a legened and so underrated!!!
Though I love his guitar playing Neal's and vocals are so much like all the other rock bands of the late 70' 80's. They nearly all used the same drum beat and unimaginative bass riff's. The few groups that got to the top at that time soon ran out of ideas for guitar riffs. It depends on how you like your music. Some like it fast and like it to change now and then. A name that springs to mind is Eddie Van Halen. Some like the slow beat with no complicated riffs kind of like hip hop.
@MicrosoftsourceCode - Ummm, if you listen to the drum beat, it's really NOT like any other from the late 70s and 80's. It's a syncopated beat with Jan Hammer's unique accents. Name one song with this beat?
Face it, you have no idea WTF you are talking about.
@Dropanobama1 If I choose not to like somthing then that is my choice. The rest of the world is sick and tired of you Americans tryinig to tell everybody what they should like and what they should not like. I take no shit from someone whos country is being beaten to defete by a 3rd world nation. Next time faggot keep out of my comments. BTW for 41 you have a crap channel and retarded. I like Neal Schon from Journey, he has the talent here, But that ugly guy should be out of the video, that is why this video was a joke and MTV did not take it seriously.
@clonedkeifer - that's why MTV is a pathetic pile of dung today, they went for talentless pretty people who can't play an instrument. Now they have come full circle with the worst of both worlds. Ugly ass rap artists who sample every single rhythm section of their so-called songs. I like to refer to Hip Hop as cRAP.
1980's arama!! What a time warp. Big hair and lots of makeup in the '80's....this was a typical video for that time. Nevertheless, Neal is always smokin' on guitar.

Is Neal fuckin kidding me with his comments about "corporate rock".....the last time I heard shit like this the echo was coming from the porcelain in my toilet.
1st I need to say neil and jan both rip!!! Thats a fact. on the other hand it proves that just because you rip does not mean you can write hit songs journey has not been the same without the killer pop touch of steve perry (natural inner ear of everything catchy!!!) This is actually really weird because neils' playing is so melodic.
Very catchy and not-so-well-known song performed by two very underrated musicans. Jan has collaborrated with huge variety of musicans and backgrounds, and Neil is a great guitarist who is rarely ever mentioned with great guitarist of the 80s which is a shame.
I don't know what it was with that surge of duos in the early eighties, but they were all so good. Schon & Hammer, Hughes/Thrall, Whitford/St.Homes. This one especially, great tune. Thanks for posting!
Ha, ha, look at that Audi, the non plus ultra of 1982 luxury, LOL. I had never heard this and it is great, I am shocked to hear Jan Hammer and Neal Schon singing, and the good part is that they are great. Great song.
Actually, Neal Schon does sing lead vocals on the song "In Self Defense" from the Generations album. Johnathan Cain sang lead on the song "Every Generation". Deen Castronovo sang lead on two songs, "A Better Life" and "Never Too Late". And Ross Valory sang lead on the song "Gone Crazy" from that album as well!
Neal missed his rainbow: Edward Van Halen grabbed it first. As guitarists go, Neal is literally one of a million. Guitar based bands come and go. As a singer? hehehehehehehehhe...

Who knew that Neal Schon could sing? Gosh, I was so used to seeing him standing still on stage, floating out his notes, letting Steve Perry do all the singing like a good little guitar player. Then, I remember first seeing this video when I was 12 and there's Neal with words to a song coming out of his mouth, and being amazed by how good a singer he actaully was! It kinda makes you wonder why they needed to bring Steve Perry in 1977, if they knew they had more than one guy who could carry a tune

I don't even recognize MTV these days. It seems it's everything else BUT music today. Remember when Robert Plant used to say, "All Day, All Night, All Good"?. Not today.
cool- i was looking for some videos of his solo instrumental stuff and found this, i remember it now! you never see stuff like this anymore, thanks for it.
This is the first time I've heard this. I had no idea Neal could sing like that. He only did back-up with other groups. Anyone know if this is still available.
If you can find the "Neal Schon & Jan Hammer Collection: No More Lies" on Razor & Tie, it has both "Untold Passion" (1981) and "Here To Stay" (1983), the two Columbia albums Jan and Neal did together. It's out of print and might be a little pricey, though...

I don't even recognize MTV these days. It seems it's everything else BUT music today. Remember when Robert Plant used to say, "All Day, All Night, All Good"?. Not today.

I like it. Sounds like Rick Springfield. The eighties were great.

Hiss voice actually sounds like a grittier version of John Waite

This is the first time I've heard this. I had no idea Neal could sing like that. He only did back-up with other groups. Anyone know if this is still available.

If you can find the "Neal Schon & Jan Hammer Collection: No More Lies" on Razor & Tie, it has both "Untold Passion" (1981) and "Here To Stay" (1983), the two Columbia albums Jan and Neal did together. It's out of print and might be a little pricey, though...

Does anyone have a copy of the Schon and Hammer
video 'I'm Talking to You'? I've been looking for that for years. I'm sure it exists somewhere. Then again...a lot of dope was consumed back then!
