I used to live about 10 minutes away from him in Maple Ridge B.C. I don't want to speak poorly about a dead guy, but he wasn't THAT nice a guy. And most of his friends were dick heads. I partied with them a couple times, and they thought they were pretty special because "They were friends with Greg Moore."
I was there with my dad when it happened! Just saw Greg the day before! The crowd of 100,000 went silent when this was reported! I was in turn 4 and most of us didn't see it happen! Probably better off! His doctors didn't want him to race because of the car that hit him on his scooter on Saturday! His parents and girlfriend were at the race also! Sad, Sad, day!
The big issue with grass is that it allows air to get under the car and also grass allows the wheels to "dig in" and just roll the car right over. Had the been concrete there it still would have been a hard hit but the car would have taken the brunt of the hit.
I saw this on the live TV broadcast and it was horrifying. He hit the wall so hard and so violently--and with the top of the car first--that right off it didn't seem possible that anyone could have survived. But this was a crash that helped lead to superspeedways paving the insides of the exits of corners, since friction from the pavement slows down spinning cars much faster than grass. No doubt numerous drivers are around today because of this innovation.
a dead stop above 30mph is fatal due to internal organs and blood vessels, tissue cant hold so I believe it would be instant at that speed, it looks strange having that wall there without hay bails and tyre to slow the impact
Well, I don't care for the thumbs down, I know I'm right, and I'm too old to start a "fight", so that's it for me. I just love motorsports and I think that guys like Moore deserves respect.
it's not right though, this is the speed it happened on tv, all other videos show it slowed down so you can actually see. There is no fast forward here.
I know that he died, I was watching the race live on tv. And just because he died, I think that this fastforwarding is silly. Watch Gream Moore Deadly crash in the "related videos", that is its true speed.

How did he do a crash like that in an oval circurit?
BlackOpsFinland 1 year ago
@BlackOpsFinland he spun out, came on the grass and there were many bumps so he flipped into that wall. They paved it in 2000.
sesselfurzer2000 1 year ago
@BlackOpsFinland at speeds of about 200 mph, getting of your driveline unwanted has huge consequences...
