Is the Twin Reverb RI much louder than the Deluxe Reverb RI like lots of people say of forums etc.? Because today I've tested both side by side, both at volume 3 and they seemed about just as loud. Was there something wrong with one of these amps? If so I'll have to rethink about my choice.. Please respond!

Because the Twin really is loud. I tested one at about 4 or 5 and I filled up the entire shop with amazing tone.

the Deluxe Reverb gets a natural tube overdrive when you turn it up past four. The natural overdrive is the signiture tone of this amp, and in my opinion, sounds better then pretty much any overdrive pedal you would put in front of it.

turn up the volume. It gets natural distortion, and it sounds fucking amazing....

Also... the amount of gain increases at about 0:12 in, with no apparent volume changes on the guitar or changes in picking dynamics.

he hits an open string I think, or a note that the amp likes. Also, he quit palm muting. That humbucker is what is making it sound that way. A single coil would sound a lot better for this style of playing, but to get the grind at that low of a volume you have to get it from somewhere... so it's either a mudbucker or single coil and a pedal.

It may have something to do with him changing where he picked. I know that the closer to the bridge you pick, the brighter and twangier it sounds, and closed to the neck makes it sounds warmer.

He must be using a TS. A DRRI doesn't have that amount of breakup at just over 3...

Yes, it does. It's the pickup combination. Notice it's a humbucker in the bridge? I know, they suck - but that's why this thing is overdriving so hard at the low volume. Plus a DR will dirty up like that around 4.5 with a single coil no problem. Especially if you have it re-biased hotter.

get someone to bias it, turn the tubes up hotter and it will. Also by design the blackface circuit needs treble to grind, so add that and/or reverb and grind away! :)
