Yes, there was helmet to helmet contact, but it the wasn't significant in this play as Martin wasn't leading with the head. The entire force of this hit was delivered with the shoulder. I will agree that Osborne's hit on Gabbert should have been a penalty as it was helmet to helmet on a quarterback, but that is the only time helmet to helmet is illegal without leading with the head.

Watch this video and see how Martin leads with his right shoulder and keeps his hands into his chest. As he hits the OSU player (from the side by the way), his hands extend out to continue the block. the major point of impact is Martin's shoulder/chest to the other players shoulder/chest. It was not a legitimate blow to the head. If anything, the OSU player was down due to the impact he made with the ground with the back of his head AFTER the block. Maybe the Big 12 should suspend OSU's turf.

@imen001 blind or retarded? obviously you are one of the above because his shoulder didn't even make contact until after the helmet. martin not only led with his head, he left his feet. this is an obvious take-out hit. i'm all for big hits, tha'ts why i also watch lacrosse, but you have to do it within the rules. so you can debate the validity of helmet-helmet rules, but don't talk out of your ass and say the hit was delivered with the shoulder.

Ipdenning, helmet to helmet contact is part of football. In fact, it is why the players wear helmets. Yes, there was helmet to helmet contact, but it the wasn't significant in this play as Martin wasn't leading with the head. The entire force of this hit was delivered with the shoulder. I will agree that Osborne's hit on Gabbert should have been a penalty as it was helmet to helmet on a quarterback, but that is the only time helmet to helmet is illegal without leading with the head.

@imen001 I understand your point, but I think you need to watch the replay...he clearly used his helmet to take the dude out...this was still a cheap shot that did not need to be landed on the dude's head...he easily could have hit him lower. ...And obviously there was a problem with it...that's why he was suspended...no?

@lpdenning Are you kidding me??? Gabbert ducked into Osborne as he came at him. Osborne wasn't even leaning with his helmet when he hit him, he was pretty much standing straight up. If anything on that play, Nebraska should've had a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

This whole targeting argument is nonsense because in football they tell you to go out and hit someone, which essentially means targeting a player. The Big 12 said he hit with the crown of his helmet, which is bogus because everyone except Dan Beebe knows the crown is the top of the helmet.
