  • anyone who can play the jumbo 12-string and sing so powerfully like John is alright in my book! Johnny Cash approved of Denver so hey,it's obvious the kid was a super talent! Such a loss.

  • People need to appreciate each version for what they are.

For me this is my favorite, simply because it was the first I heard.

I have since heard the Brel and Bowie versions.

I love Brel's for the energy he brings and Bowies for his uniqeness.

Does it matter who's is best? Just enjoy each for what they are!

  • certainly the best version of this song by a mile and I am a huge Bowie fan

  • This song simply proves that John Denver is one of the 20th century's most talented singers. Music lost a giant when he passed so unexpectedly.

  • Scott Walker does a great version and did an Album of Brel

  • Its so poor compared to Brel... you cant cover that song if u dont HAVE it

  • @HazySpirit

anyone can cover any song some better and some poorer but this is a good one sorry to say and this song was sung long before John, Bowie or Brel song it so unless your heard it the first time it was ever sung who knows who's is the best. the truth is each to there own, lets be grateful it is still sung

  • @davidoates58 Best comment I have read in a long long time!

  • This is absolutely, exclusively Brel's song.

  • John, I was with you right up to when you changed "pisses" to "spits."

  • I am astonished!! I didn't think JD could do justice to this song, but he did! Great performance.

  • JD is turning the song into a folk ballad. This is a song of despair in a dark and humid harbor of northern Europe. Bowie almost got it. Brel was living it. JD missed the point.

  • this is the very best version of this song more passion and sentiment more than Bowie could do

  • @troop107 this is a jaques brel song

  • Out of tune? That's the point.

  • Quick!! Get to the Bowie version...........

  • @tanpiltanpil The Bowie version is AWFUL as he is singing out of tune.

  • @TheRunner75 No, go to Brel. There's a version on youtube that has English subtitles.

  • @TheRunner75 That is not important. De feeling you put in the song matters most

  • @TheRunner75 Bowie never sings out of tune. Bowie has perfect pitch. Bowie changed the key, but he never ever once goes out of tune. And that is because Bowie is the best ever. This is a good cover, as is Bowie's. But no one can ever doubt that Bowie is a musical genius.

  • @spookmonster52 It depends which Bowie album you are talking about. According to me, the 4 best albums which I can qualify as "faultless" are "Honky Dory", "Ziggy Stardust", "Aladdin Sane" and "Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture". All the rest is uneven or mediocre or really awful.

  • fantastic performance again. power and passion. - a new JD song for me. Thanks for posting

  • The date of Jacques Brel's Amsterdam was 1964. Be sure to check out Brel's performance on YouTube or DailyMotion for a performance like you never saw before.

  • A Legend doing what he does best.. performing live! God bless you John,we salute and love you like you could never imagine..............................
