@gabsmabs62 That's interesting because he of course is also from Liverpool and would have been on tv a lot around the same time as CC were in the charts .
Heard Wishful Thinking on radio yesterday & thought to myself "Hey these guys were actually very talented" so here i am Youtubing K.I.A.C.S. which is quite superb. Oh & i'm C of E too, who gives a shit!
I was thinking about this song earlier today, and here it appears as a recommended video for me to play. This song and album ranked fairly high in CFNY's top 85 of 85.
hi jane do you still have the tape i gave you in 91 ??? ..i gave you there greatest hits as you liked them ... and me too ..god i miss you and hannah as mates ../. we did have good times eh ???
I recall this fine tune from way back in the day (and only played on alt rock radio) ....just forgot who the band was....for years struggling to remember the band name....until today when I came across the 1985 EP "Wake Up" in my stash of albums (originally paid a mere $2.49 at Tower Records). China Crisis.I am now complete and whole again.
love this and "fire and steel" these guys were closer to 10cc. DEVO was/is DEVO totally different sound. i love em both the similarirty is they are BOTH quirky and unique and both are great bands...i was there m48 : ) peace out......
Honestly, within the "Living In Oblivion" series, I felt this was the most oblivious hit that is so 80's DOPE!!! A smooth beat that is so 80's and makes me think of gorgeous rocking Blondes!!!
One of the better bands in the 80's. Walter Becker from Steely Dan produced this album which accounts for the excellent quality (and I believe that is his lead guitar, sounds a little like "reeling through the years").
''king in a catholic style'' is one of my favourites, also ''secret'' is another song I love.I like very much and others songs of them but I don't remember their titles well
I love their songs.I had a tape with China Crisis songs when I was in High School.I just love to hear their songs over and over again and never feel bored!
Which is your favorite? Mine is "Working with Fire and Steel". First heard it when I was an exchange student in Japan so it always reminds me of Tokyo...
China Crisis and Devo... 2 of my favorite bands but sound NOTHING like each other. China Crisis was more sophisticated pop than Devo's totally new wave sound coming out of punk. Both bands... "worlds apart" :P
Had you been there, you'd not think them Devo at all. The similarities are due to the period and the genre but this is a really well-crafted song. Same effects and musical genre, different class altogether. Devo was schtick - no one took them seriously back in the day. Get past the electronics- this is a really good song.
They were never truly recognised or appreciated for the talent they were - the best band of their era! Truly brilliant, but i've never seen them live unfortunately.
This song was on the first CD I ever bought... geez what memories... do you think this band was ahead of its time? Or that the lyrics were too sophisticated?
I mean many people don't get The Style Council, Prefab Sprout, etc, all these cerebral brands whose songwriters had BAs or masters degrees - what do you think?
Agreed. The 80s was cursed with some truly awful music. I think records like this and records from the bands mentioned steadied the boat, until the late 80s started to sort things out that is.
