2SM (along with 2KY) were owned by the Catholic Church. 2SM had a habit of banning songs from airplay. Jimmy Barnes reckons that 2SMs moralising helped to propel Cold Chisel (whose songs were frequently blacklisted).
What a powerhouse of a radio station 2SM was. It was so great because at its peak it was the only station anyone would listen to. I loved it when radio stations would have jingles!! Thanks for posting this.
What a voice...go Marc, wish I could find those 2 doublemint gum radio ads Dragon did in 78. Wow I remember going to all those concerts at Victoria Park and the Opera house, awsome and they were free! such memories.......
FANTASTIC....where do people find this stuff! I loved watching it....thanks SO much for posting...we were the same in our house as contessaoreilly....! Always an argument with our parents until Dad & Mum caved & bought me and my sister a Trannie for Christmas in 1976!
I remember it was the most popular radio station in Sydney when I was growing up. It was a battle with our parents and we had over one radio. My parents listened to 2CH, and when they were not home, us kids put it on 2SM. We got into trouble because we didnt put it back on 2CH.
41 secs in,1SM? I have heard of 2SM but 1SM? May be an abandoned idea for Sydney radio i.e 1 representing Sydney Metro (because of its population reach) and 2 representing the rest of NSW?

And 3XY (R.I.P.) should have moved to FM as well.

No. They're saying there's only one 2SM, but the radio station call sign was 2SM.
It's like saying "Still the ONE, Channel 9"

A station that should have moved to FM in 1980. Fank Hyde did the best Rugby League call in the business.
