  • is the FULL episode on YT?

  • neil is an expert-level scrabble player and also one of the nicest people i've ever met on the scrabble scene. this was awesome to stumble upon.

  • Ahmad must've felt dumbfounded that Neil kept getting the Lucky Slots. ;-)

    Just... wow.

  • How dose he do that.

  • Don't challenge this guy to a game of Scrabble :D

  • What did Neil end up with 35,000?

  • @tpir1972

Neil won over $38,700 in cash and prizes.

  • Just heard him on a clip of the Howard Stern show... THIS GUY IS FRIGGEN TNILARILB(BRILLIANT)! lol

  • He probably got banned from the show because he made it boring. LOL he should own that show literally

  • @hiphopguru81 Once a player wins the car, they automatically retire.

  • LMAO those other contestants probably just wanna go home. This guy has this shit on lock!

  • That's how you dominate a game!!!

  • I remember this, too. Dan was in a hot tub at the beginning of the show when he should've been onstage. He said he couldn't get up.

  • They need a host who can read.

  • Why wasn't Dan there?

  • In the grade school years, he must have aced those vocabulary tests and may have read many books during the summer!

    I'm surprised!

  • You think the producers deliberately put that one letter in its proper place for the "speedword" so that Neil wouldn't win an extra three hundred bucks?

  • Neil Bines is just montaging.

  • He was unstopable.

  • @geniusinmath he's montaging

  • Neil Bines is like the Ken Jennings of Caesar's Challenge!

  • Also, I noticed that the first round puzzle is "Commish," a series also created by Stephen J. Cannell. Remember the closing logo with the person pulling a sheet out of a typewriter? That part was parodied on the Simpsons episode "The Front."

  • As well as an episode of "Family Guy"...I think it was "Let's Go to the Hop".

    "Simpsons" parody was classic though!

  • How much did Neil win for one day, about $36,000?

  • $38,700 in cash and prizes. Close, though.

  • Avocado.

  • How did he win the trip to Malaysia? Was that some random prize given away for a single puzzle solve in the middle of the main game?

  • jrs, i know u've said that ur uncle turned down some of his prizes, but was any money that he had left over after the value of those prizes was deducted his to keep?

  • Yes, it DID, dim!

  • a little delayed reaction to be precise.

  • In addition to Caesars Challenge, veteran TV

producer Rick Rosner was responsible for two

other NBC series: CHiPs, an hourlong highway

patrol action drama, and the short-lived 1983

    game show Just Men!

  • I think I speak for everyone, when I say that this is exactly the kind of show - or, for that matter, this is THE show - that we need to educate the young minds of today, with their vocabulary.

After all, I like said, before, even if it isn't the 1990's anymore, we can still make it happen; Family Feud got remade dozens of times, especially since that stupid John O'Hurley became a recent host. We need to get this back on the airwaves NOW - ESPECIALLY on GSN - before we all become illiterate!

  • YES! We need to learn more vocabulary words! Who says that you can't learn from television??

  • i can believe that the tall guy dan did 10 gay porns he was also on a episode of married with cildren.

  • Im not 100 percent certain but I think that neil was a one game winner on jeopardy in 1993

  • and also who was the defending champion on this episode? (assuming that the winner on the previous show did not win the car in the bonus round, because i know that with this format they stayed on until defeated in the main game or until they won the car. if they did win the car they'd retire and they would have three brand new contestants on the next episode.

  • Will they ever bring this show to GSN?

  • Goddamn, I remember that show like as if it were yesterday... And just WHY, exactly, don't we have the show still running? Even if it ISN'T the 1990's anymore, we could still make it happen!

  • Tell me about it! Though rather short-lived, it surely beat the CRAP out of so much of the CRAP that's still on the airwaves! Caesars Challenge, even if it doesn't ever see a revision, should run on GSN. This is actually the 1st show I've seen Ahmad Rashad on! Not a big sports "nut", so I had no idea he was a sports dude (played football, does sports commentary, etc.)...till after I saw CC and did some research LOL

  • very tough doing it all by your lonesome

  • I remember this...I was 9 when this happened and was amazed.

  • I was 22 in 1993 when this happened.

  • he won all 5 of the prizes on the stage?

  • Too bad Neil had to go away too soon. But at least he left a big winner, with $38,700 (educated guess) in cash, prizes, and car. I wish he would've stayed longer to win more cash and prizes.

  • Off the topic for this game show, the person who usually pull down the lever, (in a hot tub), is now a professional poker player and he is profiled in ESPN's "World Series of Poker (WSOP)" (commentator says a "former game show host?") and showed clips of "Ceaser Challenge". IMO this game show is a springboard for him.

  • That gladiator you refer to us to was Dan Doherty

  • The guy that is on here is NOT the guy you are referring to. The guy that is on this clip is Dan Doherty. The guy that you are referring to, who DID do the same job, is Chad Brown.

  • Wow - that guy was good. Those other two contestants didn't stand a chance.

  • In the words of Jim Perry..."HE BROKE THE BANK...EVERYTHING!!"

  • was the hot tub 1 of the prizes on this episode?

  • I liked this show as a kid, but I must say that Ahmad Rashad really seemed out of place and uncomfortable on this show. It was as if NBC gave him something to do in-between NBA games, instead of shamelessly schmoozing up to Michael Jordan every game he did.

  • I think Ahmad did pretty good on this show

  • I kind of remember this episode where Dan started this show in the hot tub I don't remember Neil kicking booty in this game.

  • Hey you guys, go to the Flashgames website, they have the first bonus car round from Caesars Challenge that you can play online, along with the bonus rounds from other game shows.

  • Yeah, that site is pretty tight. Hopefully, they will start up the FlashGames again soon.

  • Only 30% of the NBC affiliates had this show (KPRC in Houston was part of that few). Neil was the 90's version to Michael Larson (Press Your Luck) & Ken Jennings put together.

Neil set the all time score of $20,700 + the car.

At the opening of the show, Dan Doherty was in the hot tub located in front of the slot machine.

  • Except Michael only won via figuring out a pattern. Ken only needed knowledge to make his way to glory on Jeopardy!. Neil also did it here the hard way, unlike Michael.

  • that wasn't hard. (or at least not for Neil)

  • True all that you said, but I think Michael may have had an even harder go at his technique than Ken and Neil..given he not only had to painstakingly analyze and study tapes of PYL at home to crack the "code", and then take his secret to the game and time himself perfectly to avoid (hopefully) getting whammied. Of course, he ended up getting the whammo anyway after the show when his winnings were stolen, and he later died a fugitive from the law.

  • WITN in Greenville and WRDC Raleigh-Durham ('RDC now a MyNetwork affiliate) both carried this show in 1993-94...from what I recall. Several other so-called NBC "affiliates" didn't carry CC, which really hurt it. But Neil Bines is truly amazing; how does he do it? People say I'm good with words, but I'd NEVER figure out stuff as fast as him...

  • The weird part is, WRDC had a reputation for not carrying NBC shows.

  • Yes, but I do recall they (RDC/PTF) carried more of the NBC daytime game-show lineup than some other NBC affiliates such as WXII (Piedmont Triad). But 28 did decide to preempt some prime-time NBC shows when they felt moved to do so..I guess.

  • LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE BALLOONS

  • Heck yeah! Bring them on, of course without popping them :) .

  • this was his only episode zelda, the rules stated that a player retired undefeated after either 3 days, or a win in the bonus round, whichever came 1st.

  • It was three days after they introduced the second bonus round. In this bonus round, they stayed on until defeated or winning the bonus game.

  • in the bonus round, did they ever run out of room on the ramp?

  • I think Neal has been studying all of his dictionaries and reading alot of books and encyclopedias and newspapers to win alot of money and a new car.

  • He was the best on this show, and I finally get to see the episode, thanks so much! You have any more?

  • This is totally unreal!!

  • Any chance a full episode of one of his games could be posted?

  • He was in a hot tub the cohost at the beginning of the show

  • I know who you're talking about. The co-host was Dan Doherty.

But, WHERE is the hot tub? I can't see it.

  • @mtiller2006 Probably at the side of the slot machine.

  • I have GSN gets rights to Caesar's Challenge and Classic Concentration.

  • I hope they do too. NBC has to stop being so greedy and start giving Classic Concentration and Caesars Challenge to GSN.

  • And also "Sale of the Century" with Jim Perry...heck why not Scrabble (Chuck Woolery)? Both of those classic games are worth another generation of people getting to watch...many folks these days don't know what a grand ole time us "old-timers" had with game shows (heck, TV in general) in the day! ;-)

  • This show probably would have lasted longer had it been on in the 80s because by 1993, game shows seemed to be fading from television, save for a few successful ones.

  • he got really lucky in the bonus round

  • what the heck is that next to the car? a sailboat?

  • A windsurfer.

  • how many prizes were offered on each episode?

  • this bonus round is better than the second one they had

  • What's the matter with the second one?

  • The second one is life after Caesars challenge.

  • i hardly ever saw anyone win the second bonus round

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, there were about 3-10.

  • how many prizes were on stage for THIS episode? i'm assuming that neil won enough money to buy all of the prizes on stage. (not counting the car of course.)

  • and i am assuming that he earned enough to buy everything on the stage. because i know for a fact that although the winner did use their day's earnings to go shopping, i also know that the shopping was done during the break and that the prizes chosen were announced before the start of the bonus game, and that's the only reason i can think of that they wouldn't do it during the break.

  • oops didn't mean to put a period at the end of the first sentence.

  • and i'm also assuming that because like the rest of you, i do not know the retail values of any of the prizes that were on the stage (and that includes the car.) i was just thinking about it logically.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually there were more bonus wins in the second format.

  • Can I see the second version bonus round win.

  • I'm just curious, did this episode have the record for most nine-letter words used in a single show?

  • what were the letters that came out after the T? I couldn't tell.

  • O and L.

  • really? it looked to me that 1 of them was an x. (although that happened after they said "caesar says stop"

  • the irony of the bonus round and i just noticed this is that more than 1 letter might already b in its proper position in the word, although the player won't know that (although ur uncle did) LOl

  • "I'll try the y please" he makes it sound like he didn't know that was the letter that belonged in the lucky slot LOL!

  • What was the grand total of his winnings?

  • I don't know, but I'll bet that the producers were REAL glad to see this guy leave after winning the car.

  • Comment removed

  • Where the HELL was Dan during the first round? He has a job to do for God sakes!

  • Oh, and, by the way, you spelled "Ceasars" wrong. It's "Caesars."

  • thx.. this is my uncle..he also does b-day parties in NY if anyone's interested

  • his performance was awesome, but out of curiosity, what the hell does he do during a birthday party? Sit there and unscramble words for a couple of hours? Or does he at least dress like a clown and do it? :p

  • You mean "Caesar's" with an apostrophy S!

  • No, it's Caesars, without an "apostrophy." Caesars Palace is spelled without the apostrophe. Learn how to spell.

  • What if he had car trouble on the way to the studio? Or he ran late?

  • @Tubewings He was in the whirlpool spa, one of the prizes offered that day. That explains why Ahmad said "too much whirlpooling".

  • That dude is fuckin smart

  • Yeah, too smart. But a total of over $38,700 (just an educated guess) doesn't compare to Tom Gauer's $53,000 in cash and prizes, although Tom did it in 4 days and won a car on his last day.

  • I remember Tom, or as Ahmad Rashad called him, the Bob Costas lookalike. His winning word was "CAFETERIA".
