I think most injuries come from swimmers who are catching the wave incorrectly. They need to stop heading straight to shore, but angle oneself along the wave's face to the right or left. When I was at Waimea, I heard a black kid pop up right next to me, "oww, that one hurt my neck." No shit. Don't go straight!

I bodysurfed and Bodyboared Sandys and Waimea Bay all my life over 500 times easy. But on a small day at waimea I just got pitched in the barrel and landed the wrong way, paralyzed waist down.
