cant believe i JUST found this... this is amazingly wel done! I have a question: you said in an earlier comment that you did it in 24fps? is that cause you had to do it by hand frame by frame? i remember in my Adobe Flash class 30fps was the norm
@Mariohenri90 There's no way for me to know exactly as there are some holds and some things done on 1's (24 fps), but it's roughly 12-24 frames per second, do you can get a rough idea that way.
This is incredible! I am a huge fan of traditional animations, and this looks great. It really moves and flows together really smoothly, and it was a pleasure to watch. :) I would love to see a full-color job of it! Keep up the excellent work!
Beautiful! This video is very inspiring :) I love the creatures you made for this and how you can show their expressions and emotions so smoothly. Definitely one of the best 2D animations I have seen. Great job!!
I don't know how often you get this, but I cried when I watched it. It really envoked a lot of emotions in me.
To me it feels like the message to this is:
Just because you think you can't do something, doesn't me you can't acheive it in another way. Or, while everyone else around seems like they have all the talent, doesn't mean you don't too, it just means you are talented in another manor.
@Rotsuoy Thankyou, I really appreciate that it moved you that much! yes, that's what it means. In college, these were my feelings of frustration. I felt I animated in a way that wasn't like a lot of others around me. I gradually figured out that my way was just different, and that I could do "magic" my own way, too. I wanted to express this in a less obvious way, because I figure lots of people have these feelings about different things. If you haven't seen Kiki's Delivery Service, do!
I have these feelings all the time. I'm a digital artist, and even though my art doesn't come out anywhere near the same as anyone else's it doesn't mean I didn't do worse, it means I didn't do it the same, or go about it the same. I've seen Kiki's Delivery Service and fell in love with it. I even named my cat after that young witch in training.
@seanmcinally1998 It was animated by hand on paper and then scanned into the computer for compositing. I used Adobe Premiere (which is kindof obsolete now...) But, it basically just set the number of exposures for each frame, it's done in the same way an old traditionally animated film would be made. The backgrounds are drawn by hand and colored with watercolor.
I saw this video back, and it was inspiration before I myself went to college for animation. I love the subtle expressions, and adorable characters. It was a treat to see it again. (incidentally while looking at your old site you got me into the BJD hobby as well XD)
the characters, may be the collest cutest, and most imaginative ones i have ever seen, even though we focus souly on the one girl it is just that good to see that such characters are able to be made
certainly a job well done guys, but... does anyone get the Nickelodeon "Avatar" vibe from this...? all the control of earth/water... i dunno maybe just me
If you don't already have a job at a studio yet, you should! If not, you would get an awesome following on YT. Don't give up on this! You could be one of the greats, even if it is as an independant. Mr. Lasseter wasn't better than this when he started!!
Yeah I saw this years ago too, I loved it but at the same time I felt so down hearted that I could never attend such a creative environment like Calarts.
Now I'm a freelance animator though, and I've realised that it isn't where you go, it's how much effort you put into learning and growing that matters.
So after all these years I look back and see this and see how it challenged me to create something wonderful.
I love it, touching my deep emotions
