During the 70's and 80's, Barry and Enright were notorious for ripping off game shows from other producers, making mild modifications, and passing them off as their own. This was obviously a ripoff of Match Game, they made a pilot called "We've Got You Number" that was a High Rollers ripoff, Break the Bank was a Hollywood Squares ripoff, and Hot Potato was somewhat of a Family Feud ripoff. Heck, they even ripped off one of their own shows, as Bullseye had many similarities to The Joker's Wild.
It would've been cool if Gene Rayburn were on the panel of this show, and in return, Jim would've been on the Match Game panel on the same week. I wonder if Jim could play the real thing as well as host the clone, and if Gene could play the clone as well as he hosted the real thing.
I still remember the night in 1998 when this was the Faux Pause Pick. Match Game always came on after the FPP, so I was like "Holy shit, the copy is followed by the real thing tonight!"
It only aired for a few weekends in 1997. GSN briefly lost the rights to most of the Goodson-Todman shows, so a lot of very little-seen shows like this one filled the schedule until they returned.
GSN couldn't show Match Game during that time, so maybe they thought this Match Game clone would suffice.
This was shown in Chicago...I remember during the prime-time hours, it was shown along with the syndicated versions of "The Joker's Wild" and "Tic Tac Dough" on WFLD-TV (Now the Fox Network's Chicago affiliate).
