If you have the contacts and material to start a production company, how helpful do you think this douche is? People do not usually go straight into production they normally are in the industry and see an opportunity or a need for it, on one side you need contacts with directors, writers etc on the other side people with financial backing, if u register a company and a director has a script, u love it, how are you going to make it, with hopes and dreams, please never make a video again.

Most people start a production company to make their films a lot easier. It ensures creative control, and all you need is a name and a business license. If you want to make a company because you want to produce films, not direct, then don't watch this, do your research, and like others have said. MAKE A BUSINESS PLAN!

Can you begin a 'production company', or at least have a filmmaking group "Name" that is soley yours without others able to take it? I heard its expensive to have a patent, so can anyone give me a good understanding of that?

Indeed you have to do your research properly. A business plan may be helpful but as far as Film company goes its much more difficult to plot growth as there is no specific way to plot financial success.

OK this sort of gives you the very basics of registering any company in America. Anyone wishing to actually do this needs to do a lot more research before making this decision. If you don't think and plan ahead things will get very complicated down the road. I don't say this to be discouraging, but just think.
