@MGSmaster666 - the buttons do do something, but it's not instant. Traffic light systems like that operate not only on timers, but also on sensors, and also on a network that may span a large portion of a city's traffic signals. Sensors under the pavement tell the network that a vehicle is present; it is simply queued up for when the system is ready to cycle. The button does the same thing - it merely places you to the queue, but the light won't change until the system is ready.
