her family is poor, the only housing they could afford was by a severly poluted ocean next to a nuclear waste storge plant that leaked because some one threw 100 tons of illeagal frieworks at it.

It's interesting how adults look at each part as the object of part of the story and kids tend to look at it a bit more abstractly.
