I've discovered probably around 70% of the bands I listen to by finding them on random Youtube videos. As an example; Notch, the creator of MineCraft is making legislation to make it legal for anyone to make videos on minecraft, as he knows that the video makers are promoting his game more than anything. I assume most other companies can do the same, and will.
The bill won't pass, reason being it's completely ridiculous. Even if it passes, companies like Machinima would have to quit and half of the Youtube videos would be removed. Google has one of the world's best lawyers so I REALLY doubt that they would let anything like this to happen. There's really no need to worry tbh, this bill would cause much more trouble than it's meant to be fixing.
This bill I feel honestly won't get passed. Especially not without a fight. It does have some good for trying to stop all of the illegal downloading nowadays, but it's taking away our freedom of speech. I don't necessarily see this as a major impact to the gaming community, but more of an impact to the video-makers and those who watch those videos that contain games, covers of copyright music etc... This would impact many video-makers and much of youtube if it got passed. But I still doubt it.
I was under the impression that it only gives the company the power to take down the video. But, game companies know that the community (especially on YouTube) helps attract new players and keep old ones. So hopefully it should be ok =)

Making videos on games is pretty much free advertisement. So even if people do illegally download stuff they'll still probably get more costumers with people making videos. So if they do pass this it's pretty much gonna be like nothing happened money wise (my guess)

I am not completely convinced, from the admittedly limited research I've done, that this bill would interfere with RuneScape videos if it were to pass. Jagex has complete control over the videos posted presently, and so this bill would just force them to create some kind of creative commons license for their copy-written material. They are becoming involved in the video-making community, and so they won't likely be apt to efface it. Great commentary, Soulless.

If this bill were to pass in it's current state (which I doubt it will) I don't think videos like lets plays, reviews, or gaming commentaries would really be effected. Thousands of gaming videos get uploaded daily, and there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of pre-existing ones. It would be nearly impossible to enforce it.

The bill won't pass, reason being it's completely ridiculous. Even if it passes, companies like Machinima would have to quit and half of the Youtube videos would be removed. Google has one of the world's best lawyers so I REALLY doubt that they would let anything like this to happen. There's really no need to worry tbh, this bill would cause much more trouble than it's meant to be fixing.

This bill I feel honestly won't get passed. Especially not without a fight. It does have some good for trying to stop all of the illegal downloading nowadays, but it's taking away our freedom of speech. I don't necessarily see this as a major impact to the gaming community, but more of an impact to the video-makers and those who watch those videos that contain games, covers of copyright music etc... This would impact many video-makers and much of youtube if it got passed. But I still doubt it.

I was under the impression that it only gives the company the power to take down the video. But, game companies know that the community (especially on YouTube) helps attract new players and keep old ones. So hopefully it should be ok =)

@gerfall if the bill is passed in the US it would effect Jagex greatly because many players are from the US and it will not be advertised which means no more players

Making videos on games is pretty much free advertisement. So even if people do illegally download stuff they'll still probably get more costumers with people making videos. So if they do pass this it's pretty much gonna be like nothing happened money wise (my guess)

I am not completely convinced, from the admittedly limited research I've done, that this bill would interfere with RuneScape videos if it were to pass. Jagex has complete control over the videos posted presently, and so this bill would just force them to create some kind of creative commons license for their copy-written material. They are becoming involved in the video-making community, and so they won't likely be apt to efface it. Great commentary, Soulless.

If this bill were to pass in it's current state (which I doubt it will) I don't think videos like lets plays, reviews, or gaming commentaries would really be effected. Thousands of gaming videos get uploaded daily, and there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of pre-existing ones. It would be nearly impossible to enforce it.
