forsome reason I always had some feeling in some continuity that if megatron was ever "not fit for duty" or something shock wave would immediately stab his back, like the loyalty was an act to get the throne, don't know why, it'd be a cool twist though!

I'm guessing this stays true to the source material in that Shockwave is Megatron's second-in-command left in charge of Cybertron, while since he is away from his home planet Megatron gives that acting title to Starscream as a temporary position. Seems to be so, but TFA Lugnut should've at least been offended from day one for not being named left-hand man or third-in-command or something like that even though he was SO loyal. Still, Shockwave wins as always. :)
