  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up if Frisky DIngo brought you here.

  • Im watching this at the minute for the 3rd time

so amazing its making me emotional xx

  • Amazing film, wonderful actors, and powerful writing by Mike Leigh as always. Its awe inspiring to think they are given the bare bones of the characters and the rest is improvisation. I sobbed my eyes out when they arrested her - Abortion a very emotive subject. Wonderful film.

  • She was a lovely woman in the film

  • I saw this movie a couple years ago ...most excellent !!!

  • @tlv156, a fantastic comment - and very true. Funny, but i expected you to be British. It's showing here on tv in 1 hour. CLASSIC film

  • powerful film. one of the best movies that came out that year. solid acting, and beautifully written. the nice thing about this movie, is the actors appear so real. no makeup or fancy stage lighting to the naked eye. it has that realistic look. so real, in fact, that i felt it was happening to my own family. 5 stars.

  • the movie was so great and i had to shed a tear because vera (imelda) looked so innocent but yet guilty. Great one

  • one of the best films i ever saw !

  • she's great but kate winslet should have won.

  • @Agustina688 no she shouldn't, her performance was beatable, there were better performance's that year!

  • The way they made the film was incredibly clever. They gave the family the script with only their scenes in, so when they found out about vera carrying out the obortions the director said before the scene "You'll find out something in this scene, and you'll have to act completely like your character would." They had NO idea of the actual plot, they just thought it was a charming movie about a 1960's family. GREAT directing skills. :)

  • This is one of the best films ever made.

  • I literally cried for half of this film. Imelda Staunton is superb.

  • Ill have to rent that.

  • Can someone name the trailer song?

  • @MasterLive013 hwatch?v=PoUUt_dCHAs

  • now that's a trailer, I need to see that film.

  • this is one of the most beautiful films i ever watched. she is absolutely amazing in this role. made me cry :(

  • this film is all imrovisation

  • I don't care how good Swank - Imelda was robbed of an oscar. An incredible heart wrenching film - a perfect performance.

  • brilliant film, watched it last night

  • It's on TV later on tonight will definately be watching it - Mike Leigh - the mans insight into the Human Condition is second to none. Imelda Staunton is a fantastic character actress. A very Emotive Subject as well.

  • This is an incredible film - Imelda Staunton's performance is fantastic because it is so realistic.

  • Imelda Staunton gives the performance of her career.

  • this movie is amazing.

i reminds me of dancer in the dark.

    both boast different cinematic styles

but they address harsh realities bravely.

gritty realism is what touches people!

  • I've watched the movie, n it was wonderful. Yes, it's about abortion. Imelda should won an OSCAR!!

  • @bewareryaninside

    She won a BAFTA......much better.

  • @bewareryaninside

    She won a BAFTA.......that's better!

  • this looks amazing

  • One of the best movies ever!

  • Nominated for 3 Academy Awards 2004:

    -Best Director

    -Best Screenplay

    -Best Actress: Imelda Staunton

  • Imelda Staunton should have won the Oscar but they preferred the female Rocky. Academy faux pas!

  • Yes it was a nice movie.

  • is this the abortion film?

  • It is possible folks! A magnificent film can still be made without a huge budget, no megastars, no special effects, car chases, loud pop music, bad language, sex, violence etc!

  • quite right it really captures the post war times so my mum tells me

  • @leoseries There's a whole bunch of films like that, I've seen quite a lot. Still, this one looks amazing (I haven't watched it yet).

  • @leoseries not really sure if the word "still" is necessary in your sentence

  • I watched this in school a year ago. It was great. My class and I kept cheering whenever she said "Cup of a tea, dear" lol. Fantastic film, this!

  • One of the BEST films ever!!!
