I saw him live rehearsing for a concert in Portugal, and he played a very VERY strange song which i loved.
Unfortunately, i cannot remember the name of the song, so... Does anyone know any strange sounding songs played by him?? I don't know whether it was a cover or not, but i suspect it might have been something from Dizzy Gillespie.
The thing i remember was that the last note was completely off and it sounded so beautiful...
Kenny Werner also reminds me of one of those creepy middle-aged dudes you wouldn't want your daughter to be anywhere near. And then he sits down at the piano and melts my face, and all that goes away.
Joe is a great stylist in his own right with his place firmly taken in the pantheon of jazz. He was channeling train heavily this night (which is why I love him!) I dig joe. He is just able to blow so effortlessly, the man is connected! I love the Conn (some people call them a Chu Berry but they are actually the New Wonder-I got one)
only heard Mr Lavano once before on a disc -- that particular cut didn't impress me -- sure glad I cought this on my computer -- shows me what I missed -- how good can it get -- whole group swings so that you can hear it all --- will be looking to fnd more of this kind of work

Yea if I am remembering right I think joe didn't play on Borgani's until 1999. But really someone at Joe's level can make any horn sound good.

!? Freddie didn't write this tune, it was written for the 1948 movie of the same name.
miphka66 2 years ago
Yes it is a Victor Young tune. I stand corrected. Haven't seen that movie unfortunately.
