  • Love it - thanks! My mother was lucky enough to see the Armful in Montreal - guess early '40s - before I was thought of. Yow!

  • Can anyone name the personnel in Fats' band? Specifically, the guitar player. Looks like he's playing the same model Gibson that Eddie Lang played, an L-5 I think.

  • What a treat!! Loved the video!! Thanks for posting.

  • I like this honeysuckel rose lol

  • Classic but Jitterbug Waltz is his greatest work ever.

  • he makes the best faces!

  • Awesome video! Does anyone know who the guitarist is?

  • I was under the impression that the vocals were a part of the original song, and was disheartened when I found just the piano in the original song. I must find an MP3 of this version!

  • All I can say is thank you for this video. I'm in jazz history class and this paints a clear picture of the larger than life personality of one of jazz's all time greats.

  • This may have bed a raunchy music vidd for the day - compare with the sexuality in todays "dance" vids.

  • Un des meilleurs pianistes de jazz.

    :-)

    (le piano arc-en-ciel)

  • My favorite Fats Waller song (well, in my top 5, since I couldn't honestly pick one single best from among so many greats) is "If It Isn't Love." I'd be forever grateful to anyone who can find and post that one. In the meantime, thank you for these musical treats!

  • You can't get better then that, wish he would have lived, could you only imagine folks! Keep that porch slappin romp commin!

  • Excellent guitar playing on this, but who is the guitarist?

  • Fats Waller is the greatest pianist and singer who ever lived,no doubt.

  • @Pentagonshark666 Best singer? maybe not. Best entertainer? Without a doubt.

  • at 0.42 seconds there is a lady on the left who I have seen many times on television as a bit and supporting actress

  • @SusanSusaw I think she's the little old lady from My Cousin Vinny, the one who needed thicker glasses.

  • @frightwig I must check that out...That lady has done a whole bunch of roles

  • @SusanSusaw Yes I recognized her too, I recall her being on an episode of Good Times. She was James Sr. (the children's grandfather) girlfriend! I've also seen her in many other things as well!

  • thanks for posting...Fats is at the top of my list...

  • @theerealgaryhill I tried listening today and the sound is missing! :(

  • Brilliant video therealgaryhill, where on earth did you get it from?!

    Thank you Fats!

  • When I think of the word "Virtuoso"... Fats always is one of the first to pop into my head...

Fats Waller deserves so much more recognition than he gets these days... I recently discovered him... And I'm glad that footage like this is still around for younger generations to watch...

It's really amazing to actually take a minute and think about how long ago this video was made...

  • @bdw118 how old is it?

  • @bdw118 You know what's even more interesting? To think about how not actually that long ago this video was made by comparison to the greater span of human history. It's interesting to see how much our society changed in one and a half centuries, given how little it changed in the almost 1,000 years prior.

  • @XianarRett When I first read your post I thought it was something I had wrote myself... I often find myself BAFFLED by how the human race has advanced so quickly with technology in such a short period of time. It really makes me wonder why we suddenly started making so much progress in the early to mid 20th century. just thinking about what has changed in he last 20 yrs makes it more puzzling. On the other hand I don't think we have advanced at the same pace as our gadgets.

  • @tmhclearance Definitely; I often feel our technology advances faster than we do now days. Still, one cannot help but be astounded by what humanity is capable of; and regardless, here's to Fats Waller, and great music in general; and the wonder of technology that allows us to still enjoy this in 2012.

  • That being said, this is still an amazing video, and Fats is phenomenal, as always.

  • @bdw118 I agree. I'm 21 years old, this was great to watch.

  • Yup, this version takes the cake, I could watch it a million times !

  • This soundie contains some really cool progressions and shows how much of an entertainer he was. This is one of my absolute favorites of Fats. Great video, best music.
