This movie creeped me the crap out when I was a kid. I always used to always get scared when it got put on, but could never stop watching for some reason. So weird... @___@
This seemed to be always on around Easter when I was a kid, fukin shit my generation up summat chronic. If it wasn't bad enough watching rabbits rip each other to shreds then Art Garfunkel's Bright eyes song sent you into floods of tears.
This is supposed to be a kids movie? Thats about as kidfriendly as a rabid dog. XD I dont think so. Not everything animated is for kids. I know I wouldnt let MY kid watch this.
@Animehusky This WAS a kids movie back when it was made, its rated PG. I watched it as a kid (7-10) back in the 90's. Gave me terrible nightmares but hey its life. You can't hide kids from reality forever. IMO the sooner they realize how reality and the world really works the better off they are or eventually its gonna slap them in the face.
@Alyxm Efrafa ( blue eyed rabbits ) were being taken by the rogue society of rabbits ( Basil, Bigwig, Fiver, etc. ) because they were low on females and needed a few if they wanted their group to grow, since they lost the few they had to accidents like larger animals and all that. The Chief fellow of the Efrafa ( big light colored blue eyed rabbit with the scars ) is kind of a psychotic piece of shit and made sure nobody left, and if they did, that they'd end up dead, as well as anyone foreign.
The film bothered me at first, I will admit it. I saw it when I was about nine, ten maybe? It did frighten me. It left me shaken and disturbed, but I felt if I were to watch it again it wouldn't bother me as much. And you know what? I did watch it again, and again, and I grew to love it. Yes, it's a grim tale, but it's all realistic, aside from the rabbits being able to speak. If anything that should be the scariest part, the rest is just life and death as we know it and always will know it.
0:36-0:53 always used to creep the living fuck outta me. I've never been so scared in my life, even when I watched the exorcist. Still a fucking awesome movie though.
My parents rented this movie for my sisters and I when we were all under seven years old. They thought it was just another bunny cartoon. When my mom came into the room after we'd watched it she found us all staring at the credits. We re-winded it and showed her the rabbits ripping each other apart. Since then Mom would have to look into movies before we could rent them, no matter what the cover looked like.
@wolfcalling3713 My Dad did the same thing, however I LOVED the movie and I ended up watching the the copy over and over again... I was four. Still a favorite. Explains a lot.
but remember it's rated PG people, technically its not a movie younger kids 4-6 or else it would be rated G.
Even on Common sense .com it's an ok for 12 and plus.
But, that doesn't mean that its not necessarily for younger kids, plus, take a look at bambi another film with dark themes and the book wasn't meant for kids either but the film was soon targeted and marketed for kids.

Great movie, one of the best animated movies ever. I loved this since i was 12 when i rented it and is one of the best not-for-kids animated movies i've seen. For those complaining about the animated gore, if you don't have the stomach for it get the hell out cause it's only animated. At least Urotsukidoji legend of the Overfiend is cut in your country. Have you seen Fist of the North Star, Wicked City, Elfen Lied, Ninja Scroll, Berserk, Claymore and Akira? other gory as hell anime. Have you seen Felidae, Antz and Plague Dogs? other good depressing adult animated movies with talking animals
How bizarre, I'm reading the book for the fifth or sixth time now, almost done it, and for some reason I had the impression that a hawk came and snatched up a rabbit such as at 0:19. I also assumed it was Speedwell...I don't know why. I wonder why they added that to the movie?
I also watched Felidae and it is quite a bit more bloody. Also, it wasn't meant for kids. But do I listen to that rating crap? Nope. Felidae was very well plotted and I found it slightly more interesting. I find WaterShip Down very similar to Warriors too. FireStar was caught in a fox trap and all that. I'm still sided with cats though. lol
Personally, I like the show better because its easier to tell the characters apart and they have more developed personalities. Plus I think the ending in the series was better than the movie and I'm glad they made Blackberry a girl. Violet got carried off by a gull/hawk. Plus I think campion was better in the TV show. He had lots of personality and he played an important part throughout the series. Good day to you. :3
@IceyCat134 The TV show is.. interesting. It's like Watership Down: Friendship is Magic. I will say this, it had a lot more depth to the mythology sequences in the TV show. Those almost felt like a separate artwork. But that's because it had time for more stories from the book. The hallucination / otherworldly scenes in the film are stellar and you can see their influence all over the place. Also, neither show did the Tale of the Black Rabbit, where El-ahrairah loses his ears. *shudder*
I believe the phrase 'DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!' is appropriate.
Seriously, though, people who think that animals are as sweet and innocent as they look really need to reality checks. Out in the wild, everything is competing with you for food and space, or trying to eat you. Just because they make adorable pets does not mean they aren't capable of killing or fighting. To be honest, this film made me like rabbits all the more because it didn't sugar coat them.
Good movie. Although it did stray from the plot quite a few times (Violet, Blackavars demise, and other things) I did like it and would point out to the people watching the movie without reading the book, in the book Blackavar did NOT die.
Loved this film. I wasn't traumatized by it, despite the fact that I watched it at the mere age of four. If anything, I probably matured quicker because of it.
@AcaciaWitchDog01 Well said! It always makes me laugh whenever people figure since it's animated, it's only for kids, thus the animation must be about pink unicorns sh!ting rainbows. I remember watching all kinds of amazing stuff when i was a kid. Parents/kids are too sensitive nowadays.
I've defantly have seen enough animals suffering from rabies after watching the series The White Wolf With the Blue Eyes. I read a book called The Sight and the author of this book recommended it.
sry i dont understand something, this movie is for kids? or for adult cuz as an adult and a mature person i dont see anything interesting in see rabbits killing thenself if i wanna see that i prefer a HUMAN movie, im not saying that movie is a shit but is bizarre and strange, and the people say the anime is violent -.-, this have a subliminal message to the boys ....the life is for kill and be killed. really is strange.....
@MrGamersoul I don't think this movie is "for" anybody. I think the director read the book, loved it, and wanted to make a movie out of it and animation would be the most practical way. As for the violence, the movie is not glorifying it like most movies of today, it's portraying realism in the given situation. If you get scratched, you're going to bleed. If rabbits don't peak your interest, that's fine, but it really is a smart movie.
reading the book,I'm 12 and love dark stuff (I.e Tim Burton Movies, horror stuff) but this is-off the charts! Iv'e seen the movie but still, why rated U,WHY!? *hides movie from friends..* Hellship,up!
reading this in my Lit.Comp class:) Its an amazing book and we have to do harkness tables for it. Going to ask my teacher if we can watch the movie at the end of the semester or something.
I seriously recommend this and I just love the dark theme this book has in it. A lovely story.... But why a man would tell this story originally to his two young daughters is beyond me.____. Still a good read.
Wow I now see that this video makes the movie look a lot worse than it actually is. This is like ALL the violent parts out of the whole movie, which are so spread out it doesn't feel like that much or that bad.
The music sure matches with the scenes perfectly. Well done. What we need is a Watership Down video game :D Yeah, I know it's a stupid idea, but if done right it would be kind of cool.
They had the book in my high school library, which I read. And I was surprised to see as many adult themes in it as I did because my school was very strict about having material like that in its library. I found it and the novel Shogun to be very graphic and mature. I was both surprised and delighted that I found them. It gave me a new respect for my school and also something different to read.
I watched a lot of fan made vids before I finally got up the nerve to actually watch it. Don't make my mistake! It actually (to me) wasn't that bad, the violence isn't constant throughout the movie it is sprinkled in and out, so don't base your judgement on fan vids. ^^
What the fuck!? Who in there right mind would make a cartoon like this I couldn't bring myself to watch the rest of this! Could someone explain to me what exactly "Watership Down" is about like the story line in it if there is one. Also what is a watership and what does it have to do with rabbits? All I really saw was rabbits killing each other and I never want to see something like that in real life. I would puke if I did.
@Xlllreaper The movie these clips are from is based on a book, Watership Down. The movie decided to use most of the violence found in the book, cutting out various characters and events that broke up those bits in the book, and while I seem to be in the vast minority, I don't think this film did justice to it's source material.
There's a very clear storyline in the book, and the killing is presented more tastefully. Watership... the name of an important hill in the book, I believe.
@TikiTackPrincess Someone I ask on face book suggested I look up Watership Down on Wikipedia if I wanted to know more about it so I did. What I found was very interesting. Apparently there was several products of Watership Down that include the book, the movie, and the tv series. Witch the tv series only premiered in the United Kingdom and Canada for what seems like oddvies reasons why it was never shown in the United States.
@TikiTackPrincess The show started in 1999 and ended in 2003 with two very successful seasons. Then in 2005 a box set of Watership Down was released in stores witch included both season one and two and a never before seen season three. If someone looked hard enough these days they probably could find the box set for a good prise on ebay. Thats about all I found but there was also a summery on Wikipedia of all 32 episodes.
@TikiTackPrincess Don't know I haven't looked it up but I'm sure you can find the tv show on Youtube if not then perhaps Wikipedia can recommend a web site that has it.
@TikiTackPrincess The Movie probably portrays it a little better as the TV show is more child-friendly, especially in artowork. You can find an episode of the show in suggested videos to the side of this comment section actually. One is called "Journey To Watership Down Part 1" uploaded by MatthiasOfRedwall.
There's a few of the movie itself that says "Watership Down 9/10" or any of the other parts uploaded by xblackrose20x =p
@Xlllreaper It's a story told from the point of view of wild rabbits living in the English countryside. Their life is hard and dangerous, because numerous predators are always trying to eat them, and humans are a constant threath. You could say it's a very realistic story of what life must look like from the point of view of those adorable, taste bunnies. It isn't really THAT violent as you'd assume from this fanvid, and it's about lot more than just cute bunnies dying in nasty ways. Recommended

I love how this movie makes the rabbits look and act like fucking bears. BRILLIANT!
lilmoonprincess125 3 months ago

Parents/kids are too sensitive nowadays.

sry i dont understand something, this movie is for kids? or for adult cuz as an adult and a mature person i dont see anything interesting in see rabbits killing thenself if i wanna see that i prefer a HUMAN movie, im not saying that movie is a shit but is bizarre and strange, and the people say the anime is violent -.-, this have a subliminal message to the boys ....the life is for kill and be killed. really is strange.....
MrGamersoul 4 months ago
@MrGamersoul I don't think this movie is "for" anybody. I think the director read the book, loved it, and wanted to make a movie out of it and animation would be the most practical way. As for the violence, the movie is not glorifying it like most movies of today, it's portraying realism in the given situation. If you get scratched, you're going to bleed. If rabbits don't peak your interest, that's fine, but it really is a smart movie.

reading this in my Lit.Comp class:) Its an amazing book and we have to do harkness tables for it.

TheEletricPablo 4 months ago
I watched a lot of fan made vids before I finally got up the nerve to actually watch it. Don't make my mistake! It actually (to me) wasn't that bad, the violence isn't constant throughout the movie it is sprinkled in and out, so don't base your judgement on fan vids. ^^
theshewolfie68 4 months ago
What the fuck!? Who in there right mind would make a cartoon like this I couldn't bring myself to watch the rest of this! Could someone explain to me what exactly "Watership Down" is about like the story line in it if there is one. Also what is a watership and what does it have to do with rabbits? All I really saw was rabbits killing each other and I never want to see something like that in real life. I would puke if I did.
Xlllreaper 4 months ago
@Xlllreaper The movie these clips are from is based on a book, Watership Down. The movie decided to use most of the violence found in the book, cutting out various characters and events that broke up those bits in the book, and while I seem to be in the vast minority, I don't think this film did justice to it's source material.
There's a very clear storyline in the book, and the killing is presented more tastefully. Watership... the name of an important hill in the book, I believe.
TikiTackPrincess 4 months ago
@TikiTackPrincess Someone I ask on face book suggested I look up Watership Down on Wikipedia if I wanted to know more about it so I did. What I found was very interesting. Apparently there was several products of Watership Down that include the book, the movie, and the tv series. Witch the tv series only premiered in the United Kingdom and Canada for what seems like oddvies reasons why it was never shown in the United States.
Xlllreaper 4 months ago
@TikiTackPrincess The show started in 1999 and ended in 2003 with two very successful seasons. Then in 2005 a box set of Watership Down was released in stores witch included both season one and two and a never before seen season three. If someone looked hard enough these days they probably could find the box set for a good prise on ebay. Thats about all I found but there was also a summery on Wikipedia of all 32 episodes.
Xlllreaper 4 months ago
@Xlllreaper There was a TV show? That's very interesting; I didn't know. I wonder if it portrayed the book better then the movie.
TikiTackPrincess 4 months ago
@TikiTackPrincess Don't know I haven't looked it up but I'm sure you can find the tv show on Youtube if not then perhaps Wikipedia can recommend a web site that has it.
Xlllreaper 4 months ago
@TikiTackPrincess The Movie probably portrays it a little better as the TV show is more child-friendly, especially in artowork. You can find an episode of the show in suggested videos to the side of this comment section actually. One is called "Journey To Watership Down Part 1" uploaded by MatthiasOfRedwall.
There's a few of the movie itself that says "Watership Down 9/10" or any of the other parts uploaded by xblackrose20x =p
Axxidous 4 months ago
@Xlllreaper I bought the box set for about £18 on Amazon. ;)
blackrose20 4 months ago
@blackrose20 Is that in dollars? I'm unfamiliar with the symbol next to the 18 oh well. Did the box set include the third season as well?
Xlllreaper 4 months ago
@Xlllreaper It's a story told from the point of view of wild rabbits living in the English countryside. Their life is hard and dangerous, because numerous predators are always trying to eat them, and humans are a constant threath. You could say it's a very realistic story of what life must look like from the point of view of those adorable, taste bunnies. It isn't really THAT violent as you'd assume from this fanvid, and it's about lot more than just cute bunnies dying in nasty ways. Recommended
