  • I like how the names of the crew are all mentioned at the end. It brings it closer to the whole tragedy. May they rest in peace and may we never forget them.

  • The Great Lakes are no joke. I've seen freighters on Erie and had to make a full throttle run on a good sized salmon boat from a T-storm on Michigan. The weather can change drastically in minutes. To imagine something that big going down like a canoe is humbling. R.I.P Cpt and crew.

  • I remember when she sank. Wonderfull tribute - may their souls rest in peace!!!

  • Once in awhile i see the Arthur M Anderson at the stone yard in Marine City MI unloading Stone a Great ship with lots of history too

  • This song gets me every time. I pray that one day the'll find the evedence to reach a difinitive conclusion as to what happen so that those 29 lost souls can finally be at peace.

  • the legend lives on........

  • It's that day again. :(

  • Where the Fitzgerald bottomed out it was shallow. Between that, the ruff seas, blinded & probably the worst storm ever recorded on the lake....they didn't have a chance. What is so unfair, the Coast Guard blame the men 4 not fastening the hold hatches securely. U want the whole story, Discovery Channel has a 2 part program on this including interview with the Captain of the Anderson who was following the Big Fitz. I couldn't imagine what went thru the men's minds @ the end, I'll never 4get this.

  • very nice video to accompany this legendary song!!!

  • So Sad. May we never forget. R.I.P.The Fitz and her crew of 29. God Bless the families.

  • when they built the edmund fitzjarald the way they designed it what were those idiots thinking

  • I wish I could have seen it in person

  • In a book "How to go to the Bathroom in Space" the author writes that you cannot see the great wall of china from outer space, but the Great Lakes can be seen. F/X

  • @fx12246 None the less. The Great Lakes is not that deep and it's shallow water. for a human to swim to the bottom may be a depth but a ship of it's size. It's more the ignorence that it was overloaded by 15 tons. It scraped bottom of the man made canal. Amazing they have videos of the take off. The amount of smoke and waves it made it appears it created it's own storm. A embarrassment known fact they have a marker that it can't sale if water is over the marker. Massive oil slick.

  • @redviper2GAMER Lake Superior is 222 fathoms (1,332 feet) deep at it's deepest. The Mighty Fitz went down in 88 fathoms (530 feet). If she was overloaded by 15 tons that's .0000005% of her 26,000 long ton capacity.(58,240,000 lbs as a long ton = 2240 lbs).

Lake Superior has a surface area of 31,820 square miles - 350 miles long and 160 miles at it's widest point. It's know for some of the most volatile storms with waves reaching over 30 feet and temps that freeze the water on contact.

  • @GrandpaWats I love this information about the size and ferocity that Lake Superior is.

  • @fx12246 I saw redviper said Great lakes are shallow. He/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about. These lakes are enormous especially Lake Superior. For the most part you can't see the shore on the other side and all you see is beautiful water. You certainly ain't going swimming in the middle of it . I don't know about you but i cant' swim down the the bottom at over 1,000 feet below the surface. I find Lake Superior to be beautiful and powerful. This is no wussy little lake.

  • wow how

  • should have used the real version of the song. This is a cheap knockoff.

  • how did this one i cant find it and it dos not sound like gordon lightfoot

ty john simmons grat grat cousin

  • i was reading on a news site on ship wrecks that some heartless guy had some how stolen the Edmund Fitzgerald 's wheel!!

is this true or did i read it wrong

  • @infinus5 true

  • This is a fine version of the song. My eyes mist up this very day.

Navigating the Great Lakes is some of the most difficult in the world due to their latitude and the weather conditions in winter are pure frozen hell. God bless the souls of these brave men.

  • excellent tribute mentioning all the men who lost their lives....thank you for sharing

  • thank you so much for a touching, informative, and thoughtful video to accompany this so deep and hunting song. i can remember the news broadcast the day the Mighty Fitz went down. again, thank you.

  • She was beautiful.

  • It's definitely Brian Burns singing. Just search for Brian Burns - Ballad of the Alamo and listen to it... tell me it's not the same guy...

  • thats brian burns singing this

  • check out "tony metal art"

  • when a wave comes up over the deck 1:50 you will shit your pants! but 99.9% of the time the ship pops right up.

  • Is this a later version done by Gordon? The voice is so close but not quite.

  • believe it is him cause vocals are right on

  • Very well done! I take time every November 10 to remember the crew of this great ship... this video was a nice way to do so. Thanks!!

  • Gordon Lightfoot sings it

  • That is NOT Gordon Lightfoot singing!

  • It sure the hell isn't Gordon Lightfoots version.

  • blessed are the souls lost on the edmund fitzgerald. amen.

  • outstanding

  • Out of all the videos I've watched; this one was most impressive. I remember the wreck, I remember the song. And still get choked up over the line "and all that remains are the faces and names of the wives, and the sons and the daughters'. I was young then, and remember thinking how I would feel if my father's line of work could take his life one day and he'd never come home again.

November 10th will always be a day to remember.

  • thanks skippylexi..but i still have a bit to learn yet ...but thanks alot for the comment ..take care mate ...shockoxj6

  • have a good one

  • No, There Would Not Be Any Bones Down There. By Now (Since It's Been Over 30 Years.) Everything Has Decayed.

  • Sir, you need to follow up on your forensic evaluation. Tissue decays but bone does not. And the fact that the wreck went down in fresh water means that the bone is better preserved than it would be had it been in salt water. There has been bones found from shipwrecks dating back to the 17th century. And just for the record, the '94 expedition did find a skeleton on the lake floor next to the wreck of the Fitzgerald.

  • Sorry, Only a guess.

  • Unfortunately .they did find a skeleton next to the wreck during the '94 expedition. And yes, The other crews skeletal remains are still there in the wreck.
