@mrlee192 Perry brought an authentic fearlessness of life in general that gave this band the balls to do shit like this in the L.A during the hair-band crisis of the 80s. These guys don't get the credit for being such true rock and roll complete with the art, danger, balls and a focus on always keeping it new and true. (if you have ever peaked during the guitar solo on Three Days, you know what I mean). These guys were the real deal. (How is perry still in such great shape? wtf?)

Depends on what style you are talking about. Frusciante is terrible at lead work, he's a genius rhythm guitarist though. Also he is a songwriter. Which Navarro will admit he's a reactive musician, he isn't a songwriter. But Navarro is technically better at lead work, he also has a better overall playing technique. Whereas Frusciante is well in layman's terms 'sloppy'.
Again not taking away from either guitarist, but there are ways of grading technical prowess. Not creative.
Yea they have different styles, but from a technical standpoint you can have a judgement. Just like every sprinter will have a way of running that is natural to their body, to compete professionally there are certain techniques that can better your ability. That is what I was referring to. If Frusciante where to look to bettering his lead work then he'd have to change the position of his guitar and how he holds his pick hand.

i saw them play at a club for 6 dollars in Austin, Texas, U.S. in January 1989 in a small club called "THE BACK ROOM"! FUCKING EPIC concert! xD I stage dived right next to Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro gave me a high five! Did i mention best fucking concert i went to EVER? ;)

Just wanna throw this in: One Hot Minute is soooo underrated. Yes indeed it sounds like a RHCP/Jane's Addiction side project but y not??? The songs r just crackin good. Navarro is a "dense" guitar player n Frusciante is "stark". They're both great but just different

I am into thrash metal...but this still ranks in my top 3 favorite albums of all time. With Perry, Navarro, and Perkins on drums, these guys could not be beat.

@comfy1 not so fast ... don't be fooled by the video , this audio track was an studio recording before J.A. agreed to be produced by an outsider . they meant to produce the album by themselves whereas Warner Bros pushed the other way

Comparing guitarists is just fuckin WRONG. What does it mean Frusciante is better than Navarro or Navaro better than Frusciante. Are you fuckin nuts? I like JF way more than Dave but that doesn't make him better....!!!! The only thing you can compare guitarists is technique.... but technique doesn't make them good musicians.... whatever dudes......

@fotillas I agree, comparing good guitarists is a bit like comparing ferraris. What's the fucking point? OF COURSE I want a ferrari, I don't give a shit what kind. The same as I would LOVE to play as well as Frusciante or Navarro. Unless, of course, the guitarist in question is Randy Rhodes then all bets are off. ;)

Depends on what style you are talking about. Frusciante is terrible at lead work, he's a genius rhythm guitarist though. Also he is a songwriter. Which Navarro will admit he's a reactive musician, he isn't a songwriter. But Navarro is technically better at lead work, he also has a better overall playing technique. Whereas Frusciante is well in layman's terms 'sloppy'.
Again not taking away from either guitarist, but there are ways of grading technical prowess. Not creative.

Yea they have different styles, but from a technical standpoint you can have a judgement. Just like every sprinter will have a way of running that is natural to their body, to compete professionally there are certain techniques that can better your ability. That is what I was referring to. If Frusciante where to look to bettering his lead work then he'd have to change the position of his guitar and how he holds his pick hand.
