  • thumbs up if Battle Convoy is still your favorite toy.

  • Where the Awesome Transformers Began.

  • Is this from 1980?

  • わぁお!元祖コンボイ司令官のダイアクロン版だ!これが後にサイバトロンの初代司令官になるとは思ってもいなかった。

  • What sends a chill down any Decepticon's spine, Optimus Prime, no try a whole fleet of Optimus Primes

  • Holyshit! Ive never knew his trailer was made to be able to be stood up like that.

  • 懐かしい・・・・、オプティマス・プライムの原型だ!

  • i have the hasbro optimus prime, except mine was a re-issue made in 1992

  • OMG that was great haha

  • they should do a diaclone / transformers movie length like this commercial and it still will be better than the 3 michael bay versions.

  • @trueoldskool Oh hell yes!

  • real fricken metal robots! transformers animation series??? wtf!

  • So was the idea that when aliens attacked Earth, certain vehicles could *ahem* "transform" into battle mechas?

  • Listening to this commercial you can almost here "the touch" playing in the background . This scene probably defined what great mythos was to be spawned from it

  • Transform and roll out!

  • battoro cunvoi!!!!!!!!

  • I just love the Japanese. :D

  • i actually owned an Ironhide Diaclone. this vid jogged my memory

when i saw it sitting there. it came w/1 or 2 driver figs.

    i wished i never lost it. :-(

i owned it b4 the Transformers cartoon even existed.

    im gettin' old man!

  • I really wish I didn't brake mine when I was a kid.

  • 変形が単純・・・。

    ホイールジャックのフォルムに時代を感じる。

  • when i was in 4th grade my teacher held my Wheeljack toy hostage for the whole year until summertime and i had to spring him out from her desk. More than meets the eye !

  • ever the commercial are better in japan.

  • in japan they did things with class: who needs kids with big teeth and glowing green eyes (that turn into robots) to play with the toys in the commercial when you've got professionally made stopmotion?

  • lol at wheeljack at the end

  • Real cool.

  • This is my top favoruite DIaclone Car Robot and it reminds me of Optimus Prime.

  • That would be because it actually is Optimus Prime. They just merged a few toy lines into what is now known as the Transformers. Isn't life wonderful?

  • I remember buying some of the Diaclone Real Type plastic models when I was a kid. The Powered Suits and Waruders.

I never got any of the 'transformer' ones though. Shame, they would be worth a fortune by now.

  • @celshader They have all been faked. If you had them and sold before 2005 then you would have got alot of cash.

  • The story I understand is: The diaclones were human sized robots that piloted larger mecha. The would be Autobots were the 'Car Robot' line of Diaclone toys. So Convoy (Later Optimus Prime) is a large Car Robot with a lunar trailer meant to store other Car Robot mecha.

Convoy would later be upgraded with a new trailer that doubled as power armor and able to haul even more Car Robot Mecha into battle (Ultra Magnus).

  • The car robots were the mecha armor, not the actual diaclone pilots.

  • interesting that in japan, they had an English name, yet Hasbro changed the name, go figure, guess they thought "Transformers" sounded better.

  • I don't think the name 'Diaclone' would be a very motivating selling point for the toys. People would be asking 'What's a Diaclone'? While a Transformer is a LOT easier to explain, hence the name change.

  • It does sound better...

  • one of these trucks is not like the other one of theses trucks is not the same.

  • Thanks for uploading this vdeo.

  • awesome

  • LOL Wheeljack just flew across the screen at random!

  • @Themanwithpivot ha ha, actually the autobots could fly in the first 3 cartoons and then they mysteriously lost that ability... i remember watching the original series again from the beginning and going, wtf!!! autobots could fly!

  • I wish they would show the Diaclone and Mircorman ads on the Transformers DVD's that would be cool

  • They do on one of them.

  • You can actually find some of these commercials as extras and easter eggs on the 20th Anniversary 2 disc special edition version of Transformers: The Movie.

  • Comment removed

  • enter battle convoy.

  • wow.. the autobots aren't suppose to fly. haha

  • Because they are not Autobots. Who also fly at times.

  • Yup. That was inconsistent. Ironhide and Bluestreak were shown flying in an early episode. The Dinobots all flew in robot mode.

Sideswipe loaned his rocket pack to Prime in the last scene of 'More than Meets the Eye.' Prime was shot down.

  • So many recognizable toys there...Wheeljack, Mirage, Prowl, Jazz, Sideswipe...wow.

  • I had Optimus Prime when I was a kid, but I never stood him up inside his trailer like it was some kind of stasis pod.

  • Damn, these Japanese toy commercials are AWESOME!!!

  • @Loader2K1 I know

  • @Loader2K1: Agreed, Japan is awesome...

  • onore

  • No, No. These are the ORIGINAL Transformers. Literally.

  • No. Transformers was based on that; 5 years later. Some devilish people at Hasbro thought that an animated series based on these toys in addition to a re-branding to Transformers would make kids go nuts. And so it did...

  • No, transformers are the "ripp offs" of Diaclone :-)

  • well no Hasbro struck a deal with Takara to sell them as Transformers in the U.S.

  • Taraka = Father

    Hasbro = Adapted Father

  • i get all warm and fuzzy watching this shit!

  • DIE-A-CLOOOOONE!

  • die-a-cloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooone

  • ダイアクロンをトランスフォーマーに変えて世界中で人気にしてくれたハスブロに脱帽

  • Nihon go ga, maa maa joozu ja arimasen. Eigo de setsumei shite kuremasen ka?

  • That is so great. SO GREAT

  • The american Diaclone was caled Diakron. There were no Diakron relases of Prime or Battle Convoy. The Diaclone drivers did have silver heads and variations on body colors. The drivers had magnetic feet so they could stand on metallic surfaces. The going price for a Diaclone Prime varies by condition and completeness. Mine is boxed and I paid about 1k for it. It is very difficult to find boxed complete. There is a boxed one on Ebay right now I think they are asking 1600 for it.

  • so you spent 1000 on a toy ?? Thats dedication!

  • yeah and then they gave them names and make them a cartoon called u guessed it transformers

  • My uncle was a buyer for the toy division of a store the time when these came out. I got a "sample" of the Diaclone Prime before they came out in the US as Transformers. Only difference was that it came with these silver people that actually sat in the seats. Now I wish I had kept the box and everything, I bet it's worth a ton these days.

  • Probably would be worth several thousand if it had any markings indicating it was for the cancelled US "Diakron" toyline.

  • Diakron?! Was that the name in the US then? I kept thinking it was something like draktar, I knew there was an "r" in the name somewhere, that's why the diaclone (no r) was throwing me off.

Sadly no, there were no different markings. The only differences were that 1. No little man (who had a silver head and chest, with black arms and legs) and 2. No "autobot" markings at all. The truck as I recall has the same blue and white striping, but no lettering on it at all.

  • Well, since the Diaclone toy has "DIACLONE" on the trailer, the Diakron one would be worth a mint since it would be different from the Diaclone and Transformers trailer.

  • ... ... ... I think I need to make a special trip to my parents house and raid the toy chest!

  • wow how they make the truck move is really good.

  • It will be around 400-500 bucks on internet stores.

  • That much? I was going to buy my 2nd Diaclone Battle Convoy soon because I got my frst Diaclone Battle Convoy in June 2008 and it had no extra missles, no instructions, no paperwork and no styrofoam.

  • I'm not too sure about that. When Optimus first hit the market I bought one. It had a trailer. Later on I remember them coming out with an Optimus minus the trailer because the price was more affordable.

  • Thats awesome, I want a Diaclone prime so bad :o(

  • were these jap toys for adults unlike the us ones...?

  • No they were boy's toys. The Diaclone storyline might have skewed a couple of years older, but not by much.

  • It's Optimus's family members!

  • no. Diaclonnnnnnnne backstory was intended to be REAL ROBOTS (the whole army of crewed shape-shifting mechs) like Gundam or Macross (latter comes later), but it is Takara's fault to focus toooo much on export market WITHOUT any Manga or Doga to support it. therefore Project Diaclone is resulted in flops (and the new Super Robot concept emerged as Seibertronian aliens fighting against each other (Cybertrons VS Destrons). with Earth being one of their battlefields)

  • We also have to thank Marvel Studios who made the original Transformers TV series to make them international popular.

  • And Toei, who was working with Marvel at that time. Both Toei and Marvel worked on many things together. Transformers, japanese Spider-Man, and even some of the Super Sentai shows like Battle Fever J, Denjiman, and Sun Vulcan.

  • yeah. And now Takara has merged with Tomy. The Movie Transformers toys are awesome! My favorite is the leader class Optimus Prime. Also have Deluxe class Jazz and Barricade.

  • I *love* the 1970's Bumblebee Camaro too! If you haven't yet, do yourself a favor and buy the Optimus mask because that thing is fun!!!!!

  • really? I think my friends will laugh at me wearing the OP helmet at my age :) also have the voyager class Blackout. Still looking for voyager class Starscream.

  • Toei also animated some episodes of "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" for Marvel.

  • I have this one, I lost the fists, one of the arms and he doesn't stands on its own :(

  • Battle Convoy was renamed "Optimus Prime" in Transformers line.

  • yup

  • Diaclones kick ass. I have alot of those guys too..thanks for posting, man.

  • yeah I only have the black ver. of Ironhide from when I wasa kid. Amazingly I still have all the parts. I would love to find all the drivers that corispond with the transformers I have

  • Wow. I never realized that Hasbro just LICENSED a lot of the Transformers from other toy lines like this. Amazing.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • In fact, it's not until Season 3 (after the movie) that you see toys that were not based off a pre-existing Japanese toyline. Well, maybe a few from Season 2 (were the Combaticons, Thrust, Dirge, or Ramjet originally toys from Japan? Don't recall but I'd bet they were).

  • thrust dirge and Ramjet used the body mould from the diaclone jet that was star scream, they were just givien different wings

  • is it him of optimus`s grandpa?

  • Heh

  • cool
