Hello i live in texas and i would like to own a used dual purpose bike. if you live in or near the dallas area and want to sell yours for $4000 or less text me. 903-946-4960.
That is a GREAT bike..trust me..I used to have to old model..I now have the XTX660..But I enjoyed more riding my KLR 650..light and comfortable..like a toy..
The thing most people see is that the seat is half a foot to @#$%%^ high for most riders. Other wise Great bike . I wonder if any ride it in japan where most are on the short side ??
the only thing that this thing offers that is better that the previous is that the brakes are better. it has less compression and power and is lower by 2 in than the others....not necessarily better for off road
ive heard some great reviews of the bike, but there are a few in there that say its bad. i am turning 16, im 6'0" and 190 LB. i would want to ride this bike mainly on streets, the occasional dirt path. i wont be riding in the forest or in tight places. is this bike to much for me?
@jungleprimitive also, i have ridden dirt bikes before, but i havent ridden a dual sport. also, ive heard that it could be good to buy a really cheap bike and ride it for a few months just to get the hand of riding, should i consider that as a viable option too?
i have this bike (in blue). what a great bike. i have 70/30 off road nobbies for good control off road which i highly recommend.the stock tires aren't worth anything off road.
@black955tiger just because i didnt put the "n" in damn doesnt mean you couldnt understand it..and like i said this is youtube not school!fucking no life anal ass mother fucker!lol!..and you ment to say grammer!not language!we are typing not talking..loser!
What an awsome bike.. I got the 2009 one... its everything I expected it to be... great improvements and such fun to ride! I threw on a two brothers racing pipe on mine... makes massive difference!!
Im an inexperienced rider and i weigh about 210 pounds. i have heard mixed reviews on the bike. From a beginners stand point does this bike enough pick up to be exciting? I'm pretty agressive in everything i do, s this bike gonna be to much to handle?
I'm in the same boat as you with the inexperienced rider thing and I just bought one of these about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I'm about 195lbs and it has plenty of pick up for me. No it won't peal your scalp off like a CBR or a R1 but on the interstate or on the highway Passing is not a problem. Just crack the throttle and your gone! I ride it everyday to college and get about 50 mpg. I've really enjoyed it and think it's a great bike for the money.
if your going around 55-60 dont forget to down shift,,it does have some pep,,just not alot that said i love this bike ,,my last one was an Interceptor. this bike will get 42-44 mpg on the hwy at 75-80 mph tires sux in the dirt new ones 60/40 on road/ off road will help and make itquite fun to ride
its a 4 stroke, the guy wanted 2,800 for it, it was blue. I like the fact that you can mount some pretty tough hard cases on there too. Theres' alot of trails near where i live that i want to explore. And the ke doesn't have alot of power, and bottoms out easily with my big ass on it. lol
I've been only riding for about 6months now, a 1998 ke100. i'm 30,6'3,220. question, will this bike be too much for me to handle?im a very cautious and safe rider, proper gear etc, but i'm a little scared about all that extra power. my little ke has only 100cc. Someones offered me a '99 with 3k miles on it. thanks.
i dont suggest the 250 klx dont get me wrong they are a nice bike but the best 250 is the WR250f from yamaha it has the perfect amount of power to last extremly well put together and built like a rock
I went from riding a Honda Cub 90 to a 650 single and it was no problem. If you're smart enough not to get carried away untill you know the bike a bit better you'll be fine.
thanks Ewan. I let the deal pass, the guy wanted 2,800 for it. I've looked at the 250, and the 650 isn't much bigger. There are plenty more in my area to buy though. I saw someone last night in my gf's neighborhood drive by on one, and it sounded AWESOME! thanks again! safe riding!
Kawa's are so good .... thats why they have withdrawn from superbike racing. poor fuckers cant keep up.
Any way, just cos the marines ride them ... doesnt make them good. Like most kit in the military... its allways been made by the lowest bidder !! Even Stewart left kawa to join yamaha !!
I have a 98 model (63.000 Km.) on hand, but what are the conserns regarding this model, and how often must I replace the doohickey? And what happens if I don't replace it? And what the h... is a doohickey??
Its the common name for the balancer shaft chain adjuster. The doohicky. You should only need to put in the improved part once, and then adjust it once in awhile. I do it every other oil change or so.
If the doo breaks it can lead to other internal engine failures. Some doo's last a long time, others fail right away. In '08 they improved the doo so I wouldn't worry as much about it--the earlier ones , I would put in the new part and have confidence in the durability of the bike. I love mine.
You'd think "Chassis Flex" would be an easy one for the average human being to pronounce, but apparently not. Chessy Flax... sound like some new sort of granola produced by nerds, lol.
My little brother has a '99 and my older brother has a '08. Both are great bikes, the '99 is better off road being slightly more nimble whereas the '08 is more comfortable on road.
Is this a good beginners bike or should I go smaller, say a honda CRF230L? I don't want too much bike, but I don't want to outgrow it right away either or be limited in what I can do. i.e. highway riding.
A good, used low mileage electric start{ 94 up } DR350 Suzuki would be a good option. I had one, and now own a KLR. The DR is lighter, and can cruise all day at 70mph.
The new DRZ 400 are also a wonderful bike the XT350 were replaced by the 225 but are great for the highway, a 250 or 225 are just to small. I am not a large guy and they just don't have the performance to travel anywhere one the highway. A 650 would get heavy if you are off roading any amount
Electric start is almost a must with a big,4-stroke single...the DR350ES is a simple,air-cooled,dependable,smooth, torquey, good handling bike..put a big tank on it and it's better than the KLR except for high-speed interstate use.
I read a million articles about little men bitching about the size of bikes. That blows me away. I'm 6'5 255lbs and only a few biks made fit me. Go buy a klr250 little men, and be happy 98 percent of the bikes out there fit you.
ok all these cool duel sport bikes coming out, this one, BMW GSA, all of them are like 35" seat height. I'm 5'4"-- which means this bike is great until I come to a stoplight with a passenger. Is anyone gunna make a duel sport for us guys that are under 5'10"?
Long travel suspension means a tall seat...the DR650 can be easily lowerd, or you might consider a good vintage bike...being a foot taller than you, I also have trouble finding bikes that fit...just sayin..
The Honda XR650L will lose this thing in the dirt any day of the week... Cool little faring on the KLR except if this is really a dirt bike it will be gone in a week when it gets laid over... KLR is a street unit with light off-road action like fire trails and such
the new klr has a MUCH better suspension and much better mid range power, better brakes and no wallowing.
anyone bitching about the loss of 1 inch of travel is a retard, the older klr has over an inch of suspension sag, so you really arent losing anything at all.. the new bike is much better, except that the new fairings are easier to tear up, but thats what crash bars are for. get a new klr, you'd have to dump around 500-800 dollars to make an old klr feel the same way.
I don't know much about this bike, I bought one just for shits and giggles never meant to go off-roding with it but My Cousin talked me into it so I dropped the tire air pressure and I have been across the Mojave Desert in California TWICE and,Cal City BLM(been there done that) this Bike is not an Enduro by far, its a Dual sport,. BUT it will go beyond the road and take you places you never imagined and then STILL take you to work on Monday Morning. And at 43MPG it is a hell of a Fun ride,
to bad they reduced the amount of suspension travel, AND stiffer springs....is this still a dual sport....not in my opinion...it has stiff suspension now, springs rates are way up....
stiff road suspension, and less travel, i would NEVER buy a bike with less suspension travel....and the brakes, if you cant conrtrol your bike with braking, you are sol..... older models provide more than enough braking power, if you need more power from a single piston hydraulic brake, your doing something wrong..
Never rode the old one but suspension tweaks are available if you want to really jack it up. For me it's the perfect compromise bike. There are faster street bikes and better dirt bikes but this is definitely the best of both worlds for the money. Simple, cheap and FUN!
it handles jumps about as well as any other 430 lb (filled with gas) bike with 20 year old suspension designs... piss poor. this bike is not for jumping. its for getting to point A-B with little problem and cruising on any surface, if you want to jump get a drz400
agree'd... i could by two klr 650's for the price of these pos, after something like 13 years of the same suspension setup.(tried and PROVEN)..they changed it to be more street oriented bike... if i wanted a street bike, id buy one. I want suspension travel, rest of you can get bucked off your 300lb bike....you da man vaultdrinker.
Chessie flax! LOL. The 08' KLR's are a world better than the oldies, and they can hold their own off-road too, having owned a 03' and ridden a 08' on and off-road, I'm definatly ready to trade up.
Just Bought a 2008 KLR650. Although I'm not crazy about the styling changes I like the other changes: Larger spokes, larger fork tubes, Better brakes and better suspension. Unless you're an extremely harcore off-roader the bike will go any place you want to go.
How about showing a side view of the bike. Good lord its hard to see what it looks like. All I see is the front or rear tire coming or going. Oh well. I'm an owner of a KLR 650 from 2006 and I think the direction they went with the KlR for 2008 is sad. Yes I choose the 2006 for its larger gas tank and better street able characteristics but.... The new bike looks likes Batman's play toy. I would have like to see them make a version that cuts down on the weight a little.
They weigh like 50lbs more than the suzuki dr650. The suzuki's suspension travel is about three inches longer too. I will stick with the DR650SE since I ride off road a lot too. The new klr650 is more of an on road bike.
They're not in the same category to me, the klr's only competition in america is the BMW f650. The DR is a more like a street legal motocross, ligh and agile, and the KLR is a touring bike you can take off road, with a 300 miles range of fuel. I'll get mine in two weeks, can't wait to post video of it.

Chessie flax! LOL. The 08' KLR's are a world better than the oldies, and they can hold their own off-road too, having owned a 03' and ridden a 08' on and off-road, I'm definatly ready to trade up.

I wouldn't change my KLR 650 '00 for this shit.

This is an awesome bike. I have owned 29 bikes since 1972 and should know something about what makes a good machine.

I just got back from taking an 08 duel sporting here in the Philippines. Good riding bike, even offroad, the suspension works.

Looks like a capable bike, but I don't like the styling.
Smoto72 4 years ago
Just Bought a 2008 KLR650. Although I'm not crazy about the styling changes I like the other changes: Larger spokes, larger fork tubes, Better brakes and better suspension. Unless you're an extremely harcore off-roader the bike will go any place you want to go.

Yeah the new KLR is too heavy. I like my G650 XChallenge a lot more, though more expensive.

Same opinion here... would've liked to see Kaweasaki building a KLR that's again more like the KLX they made from 1993 to 2001. *sigh*
the new KLX450 is a pure offroad bike (and it's going to be so expensive :( why don't they think of anything in between??? ;(

They weigh like 50lbs more than the suzuki dr650. The suzuki's suspension travel is about three inches longer too. I will stick with the DR650SE since I ride off road a lot too. The new klr650 is more of an on road bike.
2006STX 4 years ago
They're not in the same category to me, the klr's only competition in america is the BMW f650. The DR is a more like a street legal motocross, ligh and agile, and the KLR is a touring bike you can take off road, with a 300 miles range of fuel. I'll get mine in two weeks, can't wait to post video of it.
