  • 自分もこうなりたい.........

  • He is more than a Cat...he is a LION!

  • WOW...

  • best trumpeteer in the world!

  • Eso es musica

  • Great, great, great!!! Thank you.

  • 2 squares can't swing.

  • @peytonmusic Jon faddis, dizzy is pretty handy too

  • God damn is that swanky....

  • dang...first black lead player i come across and he happens to be a phenom!!! im gonna kick all my buddies in the face for keeping this away from me.

  • just listening to this solo, makes me wanna find my damn mouthpiece and play some damn tunes on my trumpet. lol

  • Porfavor que esto nunca se haga moda.

En cuanto sea una moda más, perderá su espiritu.

  • what's the name of this song?

  • @imthebrother i am pretty positive the name of the song is The Cat, hope that helps

  • auuuuuuuuuuu magaria ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;(

  • Tasteful and timeless playing ... consider the era dn the way this stands up ... when the backing horns come in it is immediately 'dated' ... but what Cat Anderson plays is very hip and modern ... 3.09 3.11 plays diminished lines. This guy had it all ... could not be classed as 'just a high note player'.

  • @Arborwaychet I'll take that "dated" backing anytime. . .

  • its sad that cat anderson never clicked with any other bands

It's as if he could only play with duke

  • I like it, I never heard Cat play like this, with a double C in it, you know what I mean?

  • This makes me want to run over to the rehearsal space and practice my horn.

  • the very first to record the trumpet scream.

  • HA! 2:46

  • one of the best

  • MIAU! What a CAT

  • so cool - the Cat is playing without screaming and its great

  • meow

  • meow!!!!

  • Does anybody know the name of the upright player in this clip?

  • The bassist is John Lamb who still lives in St. Petersburg, FL...

  • @2Young4OldFashioned sounds like Ray Brown. Sounds like it. Can not confirm nor deny.

  • nope it's not ray brown, the guy playing this is John Lamb.

  • oh my god, that's soo cool, thanks for this music

  • God, the Duke is just too damn cool. Listened to the intro to this song numerous times, cracks me up.

  • Dizzy Gillespie pulled that kind of shit all the time too, he was hilarious in his live shows.

  • @2Young4OldFashioned True that, man. True that. I wish I could be that cool

  • O.O

  • what song

  • WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA !!!!

    ..just AWESOME !!!

  • Cat Anderson=The bomb

  • duke is the epitomy of cool...

  • bibiibibibbiiiiiii

    uuuuuu

tatatata no words better music- Wonderfull Cat.

  • O sopro do dragão!

  • Cat = The Bomb

  • That was great. Understated, bluesy, swinging and hip without resorting to a single 'trademark' high note.

  • That intro to the song by Duke was cool

  • this guy is great, keep posting. btw u joined youtube on my birthday, woo

  • I finally saw the dvd, but the dvd was called "The Intimate Duke Ellington" and this song is called "Tippin' and whisperin' ". It was two rarely seen performances filmed in 1967 for Danish television that feature Duke Ellington jamming with his band and performing some of his most loved songs on piano.

  • the dvd is called Duke Ellington Live at Tivoli Gardens and the music is unbelivable, simple image yet filled with feeling and taste, great musicians.

  • what song is this?

  • I HAVE NO WORDS!

  • that semi tone lick gets so old so fast. it really started to annoy me. which is ashame cause he's killin

  • I assume you don't fully understand the feeling that comes with playing the blues. If that's what he's feeling, then that's what he plays.

  • Or this may sound some what of a C Jam Blues or as you said another blues

  • This is a great clip. Cat plays beautifully. Thanks for posting.

    Seán

  • I guess it's just an ad-lib blues. Never heard Cat play so taken back, playing so Milesish. When I was in London 20 years ago I had in hand Cat Abderson's "exercise-book". There were advices like: play this one 5 minutes in a row or another exercise should be played 10 minutes etc. Well, I think it would have killed me then. So I didn't purchase it. I perhaps could need it now.

  • OK,I give up. I should know this as I'm a diehard Ellington fan, but I can't remember the name of this tune. Can somebody help me out here?

  • it may have been just a blues that cat wanted to solo over

it is pretty basic albeit extremely well performed.

  • Even though he didn't have enough credit, man we still can find him doing the impossible that any trumpeter can't do

  • That intro to the song by Duke was cool... and was that him playing saxsaphone at one point in there?

  • No, that wasn't Duke on saxophone, but he was doing some deliciously tasteful piano work! As always!

  • That was Johnny Hodges on alto sax and Harry Carney on baritone; two Ellington perennials.

  • All the trumpeters of which you guys speak are Great! All Great! That's what counts not who was better ! Grow up and go practice maybe then you might, just might get a gig!

  • Cat never got enuff credit. Listen to the Cootie in him--far more than a screech specialist. The guys in the band called him a kleptomanica. Jealousy, maybe.

  • Louis Armstrong...Chet Baker... Lee Morgan... Miles Davis. I love them all.

  • Louie Armstrong was better though

  • I came across to this video and to Cat Anderson by chance a month ago, when I Bought on a supermarket a DVD called "Duke Ellington-soft and Gentle" for 4 Euros.

He,s fabulous and so are Johnny Hodges, Harry Carney and Paul Gonsalves.

    Congratulatins for this video.

This is a preciousness I,ve got.

  • Hi, I like your video and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my vid clip of some rare jazz musicians and dance band Leaders cigarette cards, issued in 1936. They include Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and many more.

  • Cat and Maynard are probably having a cutting contest !!!

  • Fantastic! Cat was phenomenal, and capable of great, expressive playing on Earth as well as up on top of the stratosphere. Superb bass from a very young John Lamb. Thanks for posting this.

  • Very, very fine - cat Anderson is still too unknown. He was the Duke's high note specialist, but he could purr so well...
