  • Che Guevara! great song

  • Wow I really liked this. Not expecting this kind of a performance at all. Would be wicked to see live I bet.

  • excellent work from this man, im intrigued by this type of music....gotta learn to play these pieces!

  • Masterful and RIPPING performance. John never fails to amaze and dazzle.

  • Straight up AWESOME! This is my favorite piece - More like a masterpiece!

JJ can certainly tear it up!

  • incredible!

  • can you get this tone form an archtop?

or is it only from classical guitars

  • These are not classical guitars. These are the Selmer Macaferi style guitars and use Steel strings with silver plated wraps. Classical guitars use nylon strings. Other differences include a truss rod inside the neck and a tailpiece. Also a zero fret. None of those things are part of the classical guitar's construction. Depending on how deep the body of the archtop is, you can get pretty close to the tone, but not quite the same.

  • @XnepoX These guitars are neither archtop or classical. They are steel string guitars specialy made to produce this kind of tone. Look up "Gitane" guitars.

  • @Ultraspontane hehe I get it now. I'm playing violin in a gypsy jazz group and i'm very familiar with gypsy/gitane guitars

  • Awesome, as usual. Can't wait to catch him and the band again!

  • Fantastic. Saw him and the Quintet in London in May 2007. Come back soon, John!

  • wow, i have been trying to learn this song for awhile now, and i have everything down, but now that i have watched this video I am pretty much blown away, because i had no idea it was this fast HA!

  • django wished that he had that guitar!

  • He did have that guitar.

  • Great vid! Who's the fiddle player?

  • Stephan Dudash

  • He came up here to Alaska 3 weeks ago. Alaska went nuts! Everyone was mesmerized by the band. His violinist warmed everyone's heart. They were tired from a prior low-sleep night, but played impeccably. It was a hard gig, but they charmed us to our bunny boots.

  • Which violinist? Was he a tall, lanky kid with glasses? If it were, that would be my buddy Jason Anick. He's a heck of a player!

  • I saw John in concert back in September of 1991 when he was still with the Desert Rose Band. He was sick with the flu and still rocked the guitar. Not long after that, he left DRB to play on Michael Nesmith's "Tropical Campfire's" album and go on tour with him. Good stuff!

  • i saw this guy live in paso robles! he is the shit!

  • He is great.. Lovin that gypsy jazz
