Steve Shelton is one of metal's unsung drum gods. Sooooo many drummers have ripped off pieces of Steve's playing with Confessor over the years. His cymbal work on Condemned, to this day, is the most groundbreaking I've ever heard. Totally ahead of its time.
My band (and I) got to play with Steve's band Far and away at the Dive Bar in Raleigh couple months back. Meeting this dude and talking gear, as well as influence was frickin' awesome. Sinister Moustache says hi, and "we're not worthy!"
I spent 3yrs tryn to master this rythem for the whole song never could so I gave up! lol. This is in super slow motion listen to the song in a set of head phones..... Back in those days it was no way to freez a cassette. lol
This genius has awesome coordination. I mean, to pull off those odd tempo drumming is just amazing. He even makes it look effortless. He should make more music with his type of drumming. It's like controlled chaos in your head. By the way, anyone know what happened to Mr. Shelton's project "Fly Machine"?
My bud in old skool Wilmington, N.C. thrashers Betrayer used to play shows with Confessor and C.O.C. They sure were ahead of their time. You can go on all day about Scott Jeffery's singing, but nobody sounded like them.
Loved this tune when I first heard Confessor many years ago. I could never work out that pattern, but it is actually simple. Thanks!! (well not simple, but you know what I mean!!!)
Awesome drummer.. just found him here on youtube!!

Words cannot express my amazement with this guy.
First time(s) I listened to Confessor (around 92) I couldn't grasp the complicity of their music.
Later on I say their greatness and I am still in awe... Wow...
Agree with Mantisdude, one of the best drummers ever. IMO... thanks

Om det inte vore för earache records så hade jag aldrig hittad Confessor! Men Condemnedplattan ligger i tryggt förvar i skivsamlingen.
Synd bara att dom inte dök upp med resten av gods of grindgänget för typ 1000 år sedan!!

Jesus, he's amazing...Confessor are underrated; was pretty psyched when they put out 'Unraveled'. Any word on a new album?

Mr. Steve Shelton is not a human. Genius is a good word to describe him. I would like to listen him in a jam with Mr. Gene Hoglan.

Steve Shelton is God amongst drummers. Him, Raymond Herrera, Dave Lombardo and Gene Hoglan are the best drummers working in metal today
