I saw the documentary on this a few years ago & it is worth seeking out. It was an absolute tragedy to see what one persons lies can do.... I also find it hard to comprehend that they were arrested in 1931 yet Clarence Norris wasn't given a pardon until 1976.....he was still alive, after all that what would it have meant?

wow 50 years before she told the truth. i would never be able to forgive her. with all of the evidence at trial, especially with the eye witness being proven to have lied about what he saw, they shouldn't have even to have had an admission from ruby or victoria. still, 50 years!!! there should be compensation and if there wasn't a statute of limitations or diff law back then they should be in jail for lying

Point blank is Victoria was lying about the rape, a doctor inspected then and there were no recent bruises nor scratches, and said that they had not had sexual intercourse.
also the doctor said that the girls were calm when they came in, but got hysterical after he was done.
victoria, actually i think both had intercourse. (victoria was a woman of ill repute and charged before with going across the border to obtain money by these means) they found semen in the vagina but it had no motility....basically, it was old. also...the eye witness said they were in womens clothes. everyone knew they were in overalls. so much evidence came in and the all white racists laughed and still handed down the guilty verdict . changed to 75 years from death penalty.
the young teens got out with time served - rest all 75 years. sickening. they were going to be paroled but all had changed so much in prison form abuse, sodomy, etc they were rude and one carried a knife for protection so all were denied. anyway, it is a disgusting case and really shows the ugly truth of racism at the time. (i am sure you knew all i put down :) ) there is a great site with court transcripts as well.
