  • You guys have to realize that these videos are meant for educational purposes to facilitate in the learning of the kata movements. Of course they are shallow. Bunkai IS shallow. What you are all looking for is OYO not bunkai.

  • THIS IS NOT KARATE! A warning from a JKA life member: I spent a long time training and teaching this activity. Because of many contradictions I saw and heard, I began a study of karate from it’s beginning; what it really is, why it was developed, how it was taught, what it’s general syllabus was. The JKA is a shell, they have eliminated much of original karate and have invalidated it as a martial art. Read comments my site, the truth is obvious through study if you are willing to see it.

  • @IEKUKATAKA Good luck with your karate studies.

  • I just watched the "Sochin" one prior to this one and I have to say this one confuses me. Some of the applications seem very awkward and I do not think they would all work. I do know that Gichin Funakoshi delibrately taught some wrong applications to his Katas when ordered to train the imperial guard. Mabye this is reminent of that earlier deception..

  • The bunkai looks to identical to the kata. Bunkai should not look so artistic, it should have more relaxed stances, guards and techniques. They should take on the principles of those in the kata, not replicate them

  • This guys been doing martial arts for 60 years, I would think by this he would know something about it. Some of you may not like what you see, but until you been around that long do not judge. One you may not live as long as he has,two if you do you still may not know as much as he does about Karate.

  • The Okinawans would laugh at this bunkai. It's obvious this guy has not learned the true application to kata.

  • Complete and utter rubbish bunkai.....

  • In a live situation, it is complexity, not the simplicity of basics, that's going to get your butt royally kicked. Because the small motor skills required to execute complex techniques diminish considerably. Ever come across the expressions Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS)? If by "better bunkai" you mean more complex or more flashy, you don't know what live fighting is all about.

  • Bunkai is suposed to work in a live situation. I would ask everyone who sees this to think that this is the absolutly most basic bunkai you could ever make out of this form, and that any attempts to use this bunkai in a live setting will get your own ass kicked (and kicked hard). Try and find some better bunkai. (The performance was very good though:-)

  • The very first technique he applies is not unlike a simple parry counter cross in boxing, does that work in a live situation?
