@qwertypoiu4321 The Qur'an is an integral concrete part of the lives of countless people. It is a source of strength and morality that is more than a "fantasy." People might dismiss religions in general as a waste of time and as delusional yet the themes of social justice and the advocacy of people mobilized through the church or mosque is important today as much as it has been important in the past. While religions have done negative things as well, they have shared important resources
@treehuggerdude4 such as food, shelter, education, political solidarity, etc. These things are NOT fantasy, they are very real. So you should be more respectful and refrain from saying things that could offend people who have a different relationship to religion than you do. Fine; religion for you is meaningless. It doesnt mean that religion itself is meaningless or followers of it are delusional. Its simply a reflection of your ideals and values.
ARAB FEMINIST: please deal with EPIDEMIC levels of SExual harrassment in the middle east where they blame the women for dressing in jeans and when they wear hijab for not staying at home or wearing niqap ....its horrible
men will routinely call across the street "do you want it" grabbing themselvesor grab you anywhere!
MUSLIM MEN ARE BLAMELESS, IN MUSLIM culture HENCE NO DISCIPLE ... women are to blame every single time its ignorant and primitive mentality
This a big laught: how you tell 'Arab feminism ' and you invit just women who live in LONDON-NORTH CAROLINA AND WOMAN FROM UNIVERSITY FROM CAIRO (LIKE SHE IS LIVING IN PARIS)... mister there are almost 250 millions women arabic who has no thing with women.... STOP TO DESTROY OUR WOMEN IMAGE...
It would be ideal if secularism is embraced in the region. However, baby steps, at the moment most of the middle eastern states are ruled by monarchies and dictators, a change to democratic governance and extensive civil rights is a positive and necessary step.
I'm an atheist from Canada. I'm subscribed to many tv channel on youtube. I think the point of a good information channel is to show all point of view and discuss them objectively by inviting good specialists of every opinions. This is the basis of a fruitful debate, discussion and an healthy democracy. I have one thing to tell you:
Equality is a farce. It's a condition enforced and petitioned by those who assume rights. There are significant biological, psychological, and sociological differences between men and women. Living in ignorance of these three facets of the human condition only leads to misery. If you, as an individual, want to break the shackles of social restraint...I applaud you. But don't ASSUME you have rights.
@Archangel72467 blaming people and treating people differently because if inherent non-choices and traits that are the result of an accident of birth is immoral. this is the crux.
this is why homophobia is wrong, sexual discrimination is wrong, racism is wrong, and why discrimination on the whole is wrong. it all comes down to the golden rule.
religion though, is an informed choice that should be criticized like any other opinion.
Considering there is still disparities in the west between men and women with wages and political/job power, the middle east is patting itself on the back a little early. Not fighting now for some equality would be foolish. Rushing out to defend your oppressors is worse.
"I think the important thing is not to project one's societies' priorities at a historical moment, and to project those priorities on other societies" - Rabab El Mahdi
Just because Arab men allow women to protest doesn't mean they believe in gender equality. I've been to Cairo before and women are still repressed. Not nearly as much as they once were but they're still expected to cover themselves and walk behind men. They also don't have anywhere NEAR as much power as women do in the west.
@theheatofthemoment expected to cover? you do know that the headscarf is a new phenomenon..30 years ago the overwhelming Marjory of women in Cairo didn't wear the headscarf ..there is a documentary on this issue made by aljazeera ...from my experience the overwhelming majority of urban women in the Arabic world covered up by choice
I'm really starting to like that egyptian lady; yet another good point she makes: each societal issue in each country has its own time to be disscused; good point; I may not be 100% convinced that is the case, that that is really the truth, but it's a good point: the west has been critical of less liberal soceities in general, but the point these societies will organically evolve and should be allowed to evolve by themselves is an intersting and noteworthy point
That's a point of practicality! We hardly can liberate anyone by force, Democracy and liberal values are unfortunately not enforceable, unlike oppression and discrimination.
the egyotian lady (I don't know any of their names) is right; women are at a disadvantage globally; liberalism and the 'west' in the sense that we know it today are relatively recent, emerging in the last 50 years aproximately; so it's not surprising that if you look in at how liberal are liberal societies or indeed any society, you see situations like women still having less than full equality everywhere, not just the middle east

@bxjam85 so you're an islamist? that is where the MRM seems to be leaning. You're nothing new. Neither is feminism. Carry on.

Deities are based on Ignorance and Fear, nothing else. The Koran is a fantasy, just like the Bible.
Koran: 24.31. Look it up. The Koran is also written by a rapist of 9-year-olds.

Arab feminists want the Western version of feminisim. Which simply does not mean equality but means sameness.
The Western women arent equal with men until they act, walk and dress like men.
Equality between genders should mean different AND equal , NOT you have to be the same in order to be equal.
