  • Sir.. Ive seen some people wearing a extra jacket or smthin on the treadmill or just when working out...they think that sweating more will burn more calories lol.. is that true in anyway whatsoever?? If so campare it to hotter places..where there is generally higher temperature.. would they be burning more calories therE?

    Thanks in Advance :)

  • @alir90 Sorry, sweating does not cause you to burn additional calories. Being cool and comfortable will allow you to work longer and harder and THAT will burn more calories.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV a breakfast cereal that has 130 Calories and 9 grams of fiber per serving. If a Calorie counter is subtracting his or her fiber Calories, she'll be able to mark that meal as 94, instead of 130, Calories. That's because each gram of fiber is estimated to have 4 Calories. Steve is this right i got this from some website and wonder if this is true or not?

  • @al17di fiber haz 0 calories.....the only nutrients that have calories are. Proteins. Fats. and Carbohydrates.

  • sorry but thats BS, Really? coke for post? Its way better to have a protein shake for post to get those new muscle fibers in there

  • thank you for your truthful and straight to the point information! Subscribed.

  • Steve, will VLCD (very low cal diet) cause the metabolism to slow? i ate 1200 cal for a few months. Decided to eat my BMR(1800) and in about a month, i gained 10 lbs for some reason. (i'm 5'8 Male, NOW-170lbs was 160 and 20 yrs).

i want to eat what i'm allowed to eat which means more food, but don't want to gain. should i continue VLCD or rely on BMR? What about calorie cycling "zig-zag dieting") Thanks

  • Steve I'm 31, 5 11, 165 pounds, I weight train 5 days a weeks and do cardio for 30 minutes 3 times a week. I want to lose fat and build muscle, would 2000 clories a day be ok to achieve this ?

  • @BodyPerformanceTV thanks yws I heard your answer on the show.. much appreciated. Understandbly you coudn't tell me if 2000 cals was ok as you needed more info. well I train each muscle group once a week for about an hour a day fairly heavy and intensly and I'm jogging 5 times a week at a fair pace for aobut 30 mins. (i'm benching about 140 for 8 reps , 1 arm preacher curls 8 reps 40 lbs if thats an indication of my strength) On a typical training day I'm probably burning like 350 cals maybe?

  • Good call!

  • Steve

I strongly suggest you look into Dr. Linda Bacon, Ph.D.'s "Health At Every Size". YOu are making a lot of assumptions about obesity and weight loss.

If there is one thing that is clear in the scientific literature, it's that diets do not work as far as a successful treatment of obesity long term, or even for the overweight. They actually will ruin your bodyfat setpoint , making you fatter in the long term. Say no to dieting.

  • @SexyJane28 that is what weight watchers do

  • @obesitymyths I keep receiving similar messages from an account named Jane Cannaro. I assume you're the same person and just a pathetic, lifeless soul

  • Your videos are great!

I'm 6'0 and was 300lbs. I've been eating 1500 calories a day and working out. My goal is 170lbs.

The weight is flying off and it's all thanks to your common sense advice and counsel.

    Thanks to much!

  • Thank you. Keep up the great work! ~Steve

  • I eat 2000-3000 calories per day and I'm 5 foot 9 and 155lbs.! Lots of cardio, baby!

  • Wow, that's a tremendous range of calories. So you only eat 2000 on days you don't plan on working out?

  • Maybe. It seems the harder the workout, the more calories I crave. Also, It's certain foods. I figured out that there's one day a week (usually) that I consume over 5000 calories. These are days that I eat 4 meals and drink 6-10 beers. BUT I consistently workout and do cardio. In the summer about 9 hours a week! Right now, I'm working out about 6 hours per week. This includes cardio! I probably average about 2500 calories / day.

  • Cyrax68....do NOT do that! You will lose muscle like crazy. Why do you want to be 5,10...135 lbs?? 5,10' 169 lbs. sounds just about right.

  • Steve,

    5ft 10 169lb want to be 135lb

if iIcan stand to eat only 700 calories a day and put up with it will I lose the weight faster?

  • Hard question. Total calories will depend on what you do and what you want to achieve. Cardio on an empty stomach is NOT better for fat loss.

  • I tend to do an hour of cardio on an empty stomach in the morning before breakfast, do you recommend, having a a protein shake or something before cardio?

  • How much calories should I eat and how should be my macros ?

Im 6'3'' 215 pounds . I want to be more fit . Also is it true that Cardio on an empty stomac is better for fat loss ? Thanks

  • @BodyPerformanceTV. Oki Thanks.

  • yeah thanks for the help

  • I'm sorry Legrandeproductions, I didn't see the part about the adderall and how it effects your appetite. I have to say I don't know what adderall is or what it's for. I suppose it doesn't matter. The important point is it effects your appetite. It's hard to guide someone on these Youtube postings. I'm doing that now for one guy and I don't know how well my series of Youtube postings are working to give him the complete message. It's a lot of work. Steve has GREAT tools in place to help you.

  • hes right , i do cardio 4 to 5 times a week for 50 minutes, and i watch what i eat , i have lost 20 pounds in 2 months

  • well i have really not been eating much because the adderall makes u not hungry i just dont know what to do i really just need guidance

  • Why are you eating next to nothing? I know you asked Steve, but I'm curious. Also, how long did it take you to lose the 6 pounds to get to 147? You should be eating several meals and snacks throughout the day. If you're eating next to nothing and dropping 6 pounds quickly, then you're in a crash diet. You're losing mostly muscle and not fat. Try to keep your weightloss at 1lb. per week or less. Patience is the word here. If you lost 6 lbs of fat at your weight, you would notice the difference.

  • hey steve whats up i have a question i have been taking adderall 30mg(legally so no one hate on me) and i have not really had the feeling of a loss of appetite so i have been eating less next to nothing. i am still a little over weight i started at 153 this week now i am down to 147. but i also have been working out i have some fat still left on my stomach and over the muscle in my chest if you could please tell me whats happening and what i can do to loss that last extra weight to get a 6 pack.

  • Steve,

I just watched a few of your videos and I think they're great.

I'll blog about them right now.

  • Hey Steve I'm thinking of joining your site because I need some help with muscle gain. What all would you be able to do if I joined your site? Thank you. Your great.

  • It's OK that you don't have a big apetite. Muscle is trained on, not eaten on. You probably lost some fat weight and put just a bit of muscle weight on. I would ease up on the cardio, strength training, and not burning extra calories through cardio is the key for you. You can do some cardio,..but just don't do too much. Keep challenging yourself with that iron. Stay in touch and let us know how you're doing.

  • love your vids btw thanks for all the straight talk no bs info very helpful

  • Thank you. I hope they're helping. Please tell a friend! ~Steve

  • Steve, i am working really hard on gaining weight and muscle, im VERY skinny, and do not have a giant appetite, i lift weights and do cardio every day to every other day, and i drink some protien shakes, but i am just NOT gaining weight, infact i lost a few pounds, any suggestions? I see alot of ur videos on looseing weight do u have any on gaining?

  • Very cool! Mine too! Hard to tell a bodybuilder he would be better off with bagel than a protein shake.

  • That protein lesson is one I will NOT forget! Especially the part about (natural proteins last longer in the gut, making them available longer for tissue repair and allowing them to mix with other proteins and amino acids to help make essential amino acids). The top of my fridge looks a bit lonely I must say without the usual cannister of Whey protein living there, but so what. My results tell the real story. My strength is up and I'm leaner and my muscles look full as heck...without it!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • as always great advice

  • Yes, I've replaced the powders and bars on most days with lean chicken, fish or rice and beans. But maybe not competely. Somedays I'm out of fish or chicken so I fall short. I guess I'm eating a few more carbs in replacement,..I think?I've definitely gone from lean....to very lean in 8 weeks. I'm very strong in all lifts right now and got new lifetime personal bests in strength in kind of odd places: Hanging hip curl (abs), Incline Bench, Barbell Bent over rows, and calve raises of all things.

  • That's great. You might be getting stronger just from more intense consistent traniing. Plus, natural protein last longer in the gut making them avaialbe longer for tissue repair. Plus they mix with other amino acids helping to make essential amino acids!

  • Yes it is. This is the stuff pro bodybuilders and personal trainer don't know, understand, or willing to learn. Did you replace the protein calories with anything else? Carbs?

  • Now that's INTERESTING! I've been rethinking quite a few things since finding this site and the whole Protein issue is one of the major ones. I have eliminated all protein drinks, bars and powders. At first I reduced them, now I've eliminated them. On some days my protein through my regular diet is a little low. I may be in a strength surge for any number of reasons, BUT I've most definitely been in one since early May, when I reduced my protein. I've set lifetime PB's in 4 bodyparts since May!

  • I don't think that's correct Rollride. There might be something to eating too few calories over several days that might hurt muscle repair or muscle growth. But generally you can almost eat anything. You'll get enough calories and enough protein for muscle repair. You have to train muscle on,..you can't eat it on. You've got to continually challenge your muscles and somehow by his description I don't think he's doing that.

  • He's not. The body only needs 25-30 grams of protein a day! The USDA recommends only about 50-65 if that tels you something. And I like what you said about training muscle on. I like to say muscles are made in the gym not the kitchen!

  • Thank you! If you haven't already you're welcome to listen to the free audio seminar on the main page of my website.

    ~Steve

  • You rock Steve!

  • If you're not gaining muscle it's because you're not increasing the intensity or weight being used. You must increase the stress on the muscle to make it grow. If you're not losing any more weight, you need to start cutting your calories slightly and the daily calorie deficit will be created and over several weeks you'll see the trend continuing downward. Pretty much that simple. Increase your daily caloric burn by adding some walking. It will add up believe me.

  • If youre not gaining muscle it is probably because you are not eating the right amount of the right foods.

  • Hey zztoproadster, look at the video entitled HIIT training. I'm a BIG advocate of HIIT cardio and so is Steve. You need to learn how to put information you're given in context. If you can work on doing that, you'll not only improve your understanding of cardio training, you'll come to better understand the " how's " and " why's " behind it. Steve understanding of this stuff is anything but crap in a box.

  • ok , so i eat 1 x bowl of muesli , 1 x banana , 1 x apple , 1 x tin tuna , 1 x slice bread = approx 1100 cals ,

    i run for 30 minutes , 3 x days week ,

lift weights for 45 minutes , 3 x days week,

    i was 20 stone in janruary , now i am 16 . 7 stone .

but for last two months there has been no muscle gain and no fat loss , and if there is , its not evident , but ill keep pushing , i wanna be 13 stone in a couple years , i am 6 foot 1 inches

  • If I ate 20000 calories of junk food in one day, would I be gain five pounds of fat. I have done this and I didn't, two days later I was the same weight as when I before that day.

  • I wish someone WOULD tell Oprah. Seriously. They have fitness guru's on her show from time to time and most are mis-informing the public. Oprah has personal trainers and personal chefs, and yet she's been Yo-Yo-ing her weight for 20 years. Some bit of enlightenment is clearly not getting through. Many on the Oprah show suggest that weight loss and fitness is first and foremost an emotional problem that requires and emotional answer. I think Dr. Oz does a pretty good job diet issues however.

  • That's great that you lost that much weight Sevb30, but your calorie deficit was a bit too large. You were losing on average 4lbs. per week. That's a lot of muscle to lose. The idea of course is to just lose the fat and keep the muscle. Whatever you lose from here, you want to slow it down and probably do some strength training to re-build some of that lost lean muscle mass. Keeping your calories relatively consistant, along with the scale and waist measurement will tell you what you need to do.

  • Sevb30, it just helps to eat more uniformly. If you're keeping a journal of your daily eating pattern, you'll see that you pretty much eat the same amount of calories or volume of food from day to day. Mine varies, hmmm 50 or 80 calories from day to day like 5-6 days a week. On the weekends I'll eat a bit more. But that consistant intake lets you know right where you are, and when it's time to make slight calorie cuts. Varying it up to 500 cals from day to day is too much.

  • I am keeping my calories between 1500 and 2000 per day, what is so wrong about having a bit of flux.? I am 6'5" have lost 101 lbs since Jan 1st.

  • LOVE UR BODY!

  • Losing weight depends on creating a calorie deficit and building muscle depends on lifting.

  • im doin football and as soon as im done i drink a cup of gatorade and a bottle of water along with a snack. then every 1 hr or 2 i eat like a sandwicc. is that good if your trying to lose weight and gain?

  • GREAT VIDEO, My husband tells me the same thing.

  • Thanks!

  • this man is a freakin genius... keeps it simple for all of us to know what to do and how to do it.

  • Thanks! Please tell a friend. Or better yet Oprah!!!

  • Thanks steve!!

  • I have been running for a few weeks and im still in my early teens, but my knees are hurting for the first 15 min of the jog and whenever i squat, do you think this is from bad form?

  • re: "... more intensely"

This is something I have been doing lately. I know my body is ready for it. I have been walking a long, long time and for long period and at moderate to fast speeds. So lately, I tried jogging on the treadmill. Bad idea. I get alternatinng groin problems. One day it will be on my right side, and the next it will on my left. So I stopped the jogging. It must be a Grade 1 sprain because I don't feel any pain non-exercise.

But now I'm also having foot joint strain. R

  • Doing well. Trying to do more public speaking and less training.

  • I agree, Steve. I count my calories since I started my workouts and it helps me a lot to get an idea of what I can eat to gain or lose weight.

    And by the way:

How are you doing? Hope you're doing well! :)

    Marion

  • Great video. Im 5'10 and 250lbs. trying to lose abour 50lbs. Need to know how many calories/protein i should eat a day to lose weight but gain muscle. Thanks

    My workout

Mon- Chest, biceps, triceps, Cardio 45min

    Tues-back, shoulder, cardio 45 min

    wed- cardio 45 min

    Thurs-Chest, biceps, triceps, Cardio 45min

fri- back, shoulder, cardio 45 min

    sat and sun light cardio

5 meals a day consits of wheat bagels and turkey/tuna/chicken ,oatmeal for breakfast. Im worried im not eating enough?

  • DSMtsi, That's good that you workout every day, and keeping it organized. I'm just curious though why you don't work the core? To me, the core is much more important that biceps. Bicep muscle building is only for aesthetic reaons. The core will build a stronger lower back, build better posture which increases confidence.

  • Shoulders go along with chest and triceps i think..

Also shelter is correct, you need to workout your abs for stability and to avoid injuries.

Eat 1 gram of protein per gram of body weight per day to gain muscle.

    Good luck.

  • I think you mean per lb of body weight my friend, lol.

  • I eat twinkies and soda for breakfast

donuts and 2 jumbo jacks with fries and a large coke for lunche

and for dinner I usually have 2 - 3 burritos with a little salad on the side with ranch and and maybe a small milk shake for dessert.

  • I had 2 gluten free waffles with no syrup for breakfast, 2 hebrew nat'l fat free hot dogs for lunch and an apple and kiwi for supper. Your menu sounds much better!!!

  • I had Andersons split pea soup for lunch and one spicy chicken sandwich for dinner with ice water. I count calories on The Daily Plate and have lost 10 lbs in two weeks.

  • you'll lose even more if you can eliminate all that sodium in the soup and sandwich - salt retains waters which greatly inflates your weight

  • But its not the salt that matters that much, right? because salt doesnt retain fat, it retains water, so whats the problem?

  • you look bloated. plus there's the whole hypertension thing

  • U should have a lot of snacks then, cause that is nothing...Eat more!!

  • You have the healthiest eating schedule I have ever heard of!

  • I definitely agree with you on all the weigh loss tips. I just hope ppl don't go on a calorie starvation diet like some may do as a diet. other then that great advice.

  • genius

  • nice video Steve. I listen to other vids by many other trainers and u always seem to be the most accurate and make the most sense. Keep it up!

  • Thanks! I will. Very few know as much as I do when it come to all aspects of fitness, weight loss, body building etc.

  • how much burned calories is to much a week i eat 2000 calories a week the same meals every day but my exercize burns alot ive done this for 2 months now and ive lost weight but im starting to look and feel weak
