There is absolutely no need to use fossil fuels or nuclear energy. Renewable energy sources cultivated from plants and trees can sustain and develop civilization without damaging the earth. It was done before its still being done right now in certain parts of the world without the use of huge factories and toxic waste.

FACT-the shortage is refinery capacity -it is at a peak unless they build more refinerys ---FACT--- there is no shortage of underground oil in this world

No more refineries are being built in the U.S. and as long as the price of a barrel of oil stays low there will not be anymore refineries built, if the price of a barrel gets too low they will start shutting down production. Besides the burning of fossil-fuels is hurting the Earth and there is not an unlimited supply, that is easy to get to oil!

jimbonumber9--there is at least 2 trillion barrels in the alberta oil sands area about 10 times more than all the oil in saudiarabia and that is just 1 oilfield of canada

Do you understand that with the price of oil being low now that those tar sands are too expensive to be processed in order to make a profit. The oil sands require energy to process and will not help reduce global-warming/climate-change, which is caused by burning fossil-fuels!

@sasktank peak oil has been reached. what u said about no shortage underground is either what u assume and have put together, someone or something has given u wrong info or its just total bullshit. the major oil reservoirs are in decline. there are 90 billion barrels in the arctic but that is out of our technological grasp because we cant drill it, the ice moves. watch the video here on youtube called

Peak Oil is a fact, not a theory. It can be debated where we are at on the bell curve, but common sense should tell any individual that prouduction shall reach a peak.

Oil giants like T Boone Pickens claims the world reached peak oil in 2006.

It is very alarming to think about what could happen when and if demand starts to far exceed production rates.

It is a fair assumption that natural resource wars are on the horizon.

China and India are just getting started in oil consumption.

What kinda shit you smoken? T Boone Pickens is a natural gas producer. He's been trying to get a better price on CNG for many years. Even to the point of capping 80% of his wells. To predict what peak oil is you would have to know what the total volume of the planets oil supply is. Nobody knows what that is! Get real!

Do you know anything about the oil business or technology. Peak oil: basic premise,demand outstrips global supply. The assumption that some how the volume(below ground reservoirs aka tracks) is depleted is completely ignorant. It's easy to increase production or pump more oil. Where are you going to store it or refine it? Support systems (pump volume, storage, transportation, refinement) are manipulated to maintain pricing. Study this: Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.

Compressed air is just an energy carrier (just like your lithium battery). It's not an energy source. To produce energy carrier you need to use energy source (like oil, coal, nuclear, hydro, etc.). The same goes with hydrogen - it has to be produced by using energy. There's no easy way out, unless some miraculous invention like cheap and efficient solar cell gets invented or nuclear fusion energy becomes feasible or something like that. But don't count on it.

I hope higher gas prices will wake us up, and realize that we need to invest in alternative energy...The problem is that OPEC has such a tight leash on us that once there is an increase in alternative energy investment and the passing of legislation supporting it, OPEC will drastically increase pumping so prices decrease to lower levels making alternative energies seem more costly. We need to prevent OPEC manipulation and control by sticking w/ what we set ourselves to do in alternative energy.
