The upright seat provides less hip rotation than the original recumbent seat which mean less muscle recruitment, The two shoulder pads provide approximately 200 square inches of surface area to deal with compression compared to about 10 square inches on a barbell squat.
I had a young athlete 7'2" on my Duo-Squat and he was about 2" away from the limit on the sled.
Much better range of motion than a barbell squat. Variable resistance over the entire range of motion (unlike a barbell squat). The direction of force is IN LINE WITH the lower legs instead of against them trying to tear the knee apart (like the squat has), making it infinitely safer. All of the advantages of a squat (formerly the most productive exercise conceived of), some advantages the squat doesn't have, and none of its disadvantages. If that's not a masterpiece...
