  • My British Grandpa was a Lancaster pilot this makes me proud to still see this fly.

  • Looking forward too buying this when it comes out:

My uncle jack was a top gunner in the 101 Sqd , he was 1 of 4 brother's who served in the force's at that time , thankfully 3 came back , jack didnt , he was always lovingly remembered by the whole family.

  • Majestic aircraft.

  • C4EST BEAU

  • Britain ained absoluteley othing from coming to polands aid in WW2 and yet lost everything, her empire, her superpower status and who was victorious-The USA and USSR!-All in the name of Winston Churchill and his personal legacy...Even he realised the Soviets were a far greater threat but by then it was too late. Germany was a bullwalk against communism and destroying her allowed them to dominate Europe for the next 60 years!

  • Bomber Harris was a war criminal, they slaughtered 100's of 000's of civilians, men women and children-wheres the bravery in that. They even bombed Cologne weeks before the war ended killing over 100,000 refugees, well done,no actually shame on you!

  • @sidelock123 KNOBHEAD

  • @wensleydale15 Oh how vastly intelligent you fucking pleb.

  • @sidelock123 They were totally justified in trying to obliterate every city in Germany. The German people voted the Nazis in so they got what they deserved.

  • @wensleydale15 What a totally retarded and unsound argument/point! What the hell had the German peoples choice of government got to do with the Bitish in 1939 and indeed what interest did Britain have in the security of the German population of Danzig and therir right to freedon in 1939? Britain would have done exactly the same as Hitler in 1939 had it been happening in a British populated region. open your fucking narrow mind you idiot.

  • @sidelock123 Have you forgotten about the German Army sitting just a few miles from Britain accross the Channel, just itching to invade ,just itching to take away our freedom and rights. How many death camps would have been set up over here I wonder?. Thats what it had to do with Britain you fucking gimp.

  • @wensleydale15 Again complete and utter rubbish. The German Army only came westwards after Britain and France decided to stick to a strategically irrational arrangement to come to Polands aid if she was attacked. Hitler had no intention whatsoever or ambitions to invade or destroy Britain-In all Hitlers writings and speaches pre war he praised bEngland and her Empire and wanted his new empire in the East in the wastelands of Western Soviet Union. You need to expand beyond GCSE!

  • @sidelock123 You are thick, ignorant and stupid beyond imagination. You can't even gets you facts right. What a total oxygen thief you are.

  • @concise707 You sir are a small minded propaganda sponge and not to mention a complete fucking moron. FYI The bombing of civilian areas was begun by Chruchill to widen the war in 1940 with the hope then that the USA would enter. You need to read your History and try some more sources not the crap you have obviously already absorbed.

  • @sidelock123 You upload propaganda footage glorifying the Waffen SS and accuse other people of being propaganda sponges? LOL The Nazis bombed civilians first during the Spanish civil war, then at Warsaw, then Rotterdam, breaking their agreement both sides made with the US that civilian bombing would be avoided, it wasn't until after this that the RAF responded by bombing Ruhr targets. It's called historic fact, proved by even the most basic of sources you total knob jockey.

  • @Anders2185 Dick breath- My grandfather was a serving soldier in the Waffen SS and they were fantastically brave soldiers. You would be fucking speaking Russian now if it hadnt been for his and men like him. Churchill was a self interested politician only interested in his own personal legacy. He didnt care a jot about the ordinary men women and children of Britain he was a class ridden snob of the highest order. he succeeded in completeley destroying your Empire in less than 7 years

  • @sidelock123 The Waffen SS were ruthless and commited many war crimes, and the organisation as a whole was declared a criminal organisation in the Nuremberg trials after the war.

After what they did in the Warsaw uprising - especially Ochota & Wola - I have no idea how you can be proud of having any association to them, whether it was your grandfather or not.

(for the record I'm not Polish)

  • @tfifriday1 They were involved in a struggle for the life and death of their nation and race in the East and they knew that more accuteley than the general army. They were fighting extremist communist and zionist political troops who also fought alongside the soviet armies so you cant judge them as the only uniqueley ruthless forces in ww2. History is written by the victors-Karl Marx.

  • @sidelock123 Ah ha - a true RED-blooded, post war, revisionist. If you weren't there, you don't understand; therefore, keep your facile opinions to yourself. In other words STFU. I've read my History widely, can remember it and quote accurately. When YOU can do that you have the right to espouse a sensible opinion, won - BTW - by those you now have the freedom to denigrate. Check your 'facts' - you've already lost all credibility. Hint: it was Dresden - at the specific request of Stalin

  • @sidelock123 Herman Goering was a war criminal, shame on the Luftwaffe! Shame on the Stuka pilots who dive bombed and machine gunned defenceless French refugees, where's the bravery in that?? The Nazis started it, they were the ones who started a war to dominate, impose their Nazi ideology on and enslave 1,000,000s of people. They started it, we had to finish it, so that scum like you have the freedom to insult the sacrifice laid down by these men who flew such beautiful aircraft.

  • @Anders2185 Oh dear you really are naive. So here is another history lesson. Hitler had no quarrel with Britain in fact sought to have lasting peace with her as a Germanic people and cousins of the Germans. the versailles treaty -1920 -meant the German people were starved to death-litterally(read some books)Hitlers ambitions were to rectify this cruel treaty by any means necessary and to extend Germany in the East ONLY- he acted after britain and France declared war on Germany.

  • @Anders2185 Churchill was an alcoholic and only war could save a failed military leader and failed politician. Chruchill needed war and was encouraged to reject any peace moves from Germany by the International financial groups in key positions in Britain and the US. In 1939 Britain was at her zenith of power and had a world Empire second to none. In 1945 she had lost everything and was factually replaced on the world stage by the USA and USSR-well done Winston.

  • @Anders2185 Poland had no significant strategic or military importance to Britain so and Churchill and Chamberlain before him committed Britain to fight and go to war over this regional issue for Germany.

  • I have my great uncle's log book who was a tail gunner and survived in the Lancaster!

    Brave men!!

  • I saved this and watched it tonight. Brilliant stuff!

  • Dont suppose anyone ould let me know what the music is?

  • Colin must have been in his element flying this icon, and Ewan sounded so proud of his brother. I watched this documentary and don't mind owning up to the fact I had a tear in my eye. First rate BBC. 2 dislikes?.......................well we won't go down that road.

  • Excellent show. Thanks BBC as always, top notch TV

  • 1:48 - Ninja!!! (When the pilots are wearing their masks)

  • Absolutely stunning flying, the story of the crews was very moving and I wholeheartedly take my hat off to them for such an incredible sacrifice in very difficult circumstances but it has to be remembered these boys were only doing what they were told. My two sons are the same ages now, as these lads were in 1943, truly amazing to think someone so young was taking one of these machines hundreds if not thousands of miles at night. Admiration.

  • These old boys in this film are my heroes.

  • Loved thier Battle od Britain dvd.........so please BBC for those of us not living in the UK....get this on on DVD please !!! Look tremendous ! Thanks TCUNC76

  • @TCUNC76 Maybe they will put it in a double DVD with the Battle of Britain doco!

  • This looks really very good. Their Battle of Britain show was very good, I have similar high hopes for this too.

Would also love to know what the music is too.

  • Music?

  • i bet that was a day well remembered

  • This video really doesn't require a soundtrack...

  • i guess they needed ewan cos colin is not famous

sucks to be the unfamous sibling

  • @Masychefx2

awesome to be the BBMF pilot though. I know who I'd prefer to be.

  • I get goosebumps imaginening the sight and sound of 100s of these beautiful planes in formation flown by kids to defeat the pure evil of the Nazi regime... and the drone of 100s of merlin engines... indeed a special time in history... (meanwhile in the big brother house they are having a carrot peeling contest dressed in novelty size bunny ears and tails.... TIMEMACHINE PLZ! )

  • whats that? B-17?

  • My grandfather proudly volunteered to flight Lancasters well after he fulfilled military service in the RAF, he was a brave man who believed as long as a war was on everyone should stay in the fight until it was won… He was one of the many hero’s that never came back fighting for freedom. Live on Philip in the hearts and minds of all the No. 49 Squadron RAF of bomber command. You proud grand Son.

  • hey look we're right under the MI9's headquarters.....

hey look a big red button that says "don't press" BEEP*

  • It almost goes without saying that those WW2 RAF crewmen deserve our respect and gratitude, although it is worth remembering that, sad as it may seem, the war offered the opportunity for ordinary working class men (in my father's case from a tenement block in Govan) to train as a pilot, something that was the preserve of the rich before the war. Not all WW2 pilots were from privileged backgrounds! But that is another story in itself.

  • Use the Force, Ewan!

  • i would go dizzy and barf on these LOL

  • My father was Lancaster pilot during 1944/45. He would have loved this video although he never spoke much about his experiences. My brother has his log book which is fascinating and quite humbling. The men who flew and flew in these planes were so young......

  • @SPAIN2UK2SPAIN And deserve our never ending respect and gratitude!

  • oh have times changed

  • What is the song playing in the background?

  • I flew in one of these a few weeks ago, and it just brings a smile to my face just thinking about it

  • is a intressting film

  • Looks like there's not a bad seat on that plane. All views are great. I bet from Ewan's perspective, it's like he's flying alone. Probably the best seat must be the nose gunner's.

  • @lsloan0000 Not if there are German Flaks on the ground...

  • What an amazing experience for EWAN.

Enjoiyed this clip. Hope to see more.

    Thanks for the video

  • Man Ewan's brother looks like him.

  • My grandfather was a navigator/bombadier (the guy at the front were Ewan was) in a Lancaster during WW2. Awesome video...

  • My Uncle was in the RCAF & flew in a Lancaster with the RAF. They were shot down on the 13th of June 1944, and miraculously 1 of the 7 crew survived. I wish I could have known him. My dad never talked about his brother, too painful I guess. Beautiful plane. Sue in San Diego

  • This is the type of entertainment that should be filling our TVs, not the useless rubbish we see nowadays. Great video :)

  • @RoboTekno +1

  • @RoboTekno Sadly, the majority of people would rather enjoy watching Lady Gaga's music videos.

  • Flying is for droids

  • @wolfandMan911 Blast I hate flying!

  • @wolfandMan911 you sir, just made my day

  • @wolfandMan911 flying is for people that really know what life is all about!!

  • wow

  • Can't wait to watch this, 9pm Sunday? Follows TopGear! Thanks BBC :D

  • Lancaster is so ugly its beautiful:]

  • My favorite bomber of all times! Fantastic video

  • Pretty moving...cheers Beeb

  • Lancaster amazing plane :)

  • I kept closing windows all over the place because I didn't know where that bloody noise came from. Eventually I realised it was the clip itself and I didn't get to hear those engines in all their glory.

Somebody in the BBC seriously needs a talking to, or the @#! sack.

  • Ewan's helmet sticker - so almost BAMF. 0:44

  • @karadan100 BBMF - Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

  • @me282uk Aha! Thanks for the info :)

  • Fantastic PA 474, you can't beat the big Avro's

  • My Grandfather flew in one during the war. How I wish he was still here to tell me his stories.

  • I recognise the places it flew over. Oh dear.

  • Watching these things take off is almost magical. They're so heavy and ugly.

  • Awesome

  • Oh Ewan!

  • first

  • @Booshsong +1 for you
