Ok here are some of the facts. All horses that compete in this race are vet checked prior to and after each race. All horses have to pass a swim test and a hill test prior to competing in the race. I have watched this race for several years and have never seen a horse killed. I have never heard the term "Crash Zone" used. These horses and riders train for several months prior to the event. These Native American riders are all good horsemen and they take exceptional care of thier horses.

Horses do commit suicide. They are just as likely to break a leg loose in a pasture as they are in any type of competition. I know of 2 horses in our area that killed themselves running headfirst into a pillar and a tree. They did it on their own, no rider, during no competition. If you disagree with this, then you don't know horses and should keep your comments to yourselves.

Most these negative comments have no clue the tradition this event is set in. Plus there are test ahead of this race to see if rider and horse can make it through this race. Dogs do not run down a 60 degree 120 foot hill at a full gallop. They do not tumble and roll down a hill breaking necks and damaging nerves while people laugh. They do not swim through a river that often times they can't stand up in. They do not break limbs and are not in pain while they are in a dog show. Taz and I raced 18 times off this hill took 5 2nd places and 10 1st places neither one of us were injured he likes this race just as much as I do.. I wouldn't make a horse go down that hill if they didn't want to.. We train good don't over stress them and feed them well.. More horses a year break a leg or get seriously injured on flat track and jumping that this race.

DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HORSE? comparing this to jumping or other sports isn't fair. Asking a horse to jump a fence 5' isn't "natural"- neither is this. That comparison doesn't make it right. It's a game of chances. The fact that 13 (or so) horses do this at a time & the injury/death rate is so high for those isn't even comparable to other sport. In a weekend jumping event with 100 competitors, maybe 1 or 2 will get a moderate injury. Not 7 out of 13 with worse injuries/death

I have watched this race for several years and have never seen a horse killed. I have never heard the term "Crash Zone" used. These horses and riders train for several months prior to the event. These Native American riders are all good horsemen and they take exceptional care of thier horses.

Horses do commit suicide. They are just as likely to break a leg loose in a pasture as they are in any type of competition. I know of 2 horses in our area that killed themselves running headfirst into a pillar and a tree. They did it on their own, no rider, during no competition. If you disagree with this, then you don't know horses and should keep your comments to yourselves.

Most these negative comments have no clue the tradition this event is set in. Plus there are test ahead of this race to see if rider and horse can make it through this race. Vet test, swim test and hill test. It would be nice to have these people stop getting on their high horse (no pun intended) and do some research.

Making the comment that "If the horse does not want to go down the hill it won't" is incorrect.......they are coming over the hill at a full gallop. they are being whipped to move forward - they have no choice......it is a matter of physics and gravity, let alone the fact, unlike a mule, you CAN force a horse to do something he does not want to do......do not criticize me as being a "tree-hugger" or not knowing what I am talking about, I am a farmer with 50 equines who are loved and respected!

Dogs do not run down a 60 degree 120 foot hill at a full gallop. They do not tumble and roll down a hill breaking necks and damaging nerves while people laugh. They do not swim through a river that often times they can't stand up in. They do not break limbs and are not in pain while they are in a dog show. Dogs do not die in dog shows, nor is that even a risk. Those horses collide with each other at the bottom of that hill intentionally. Please, for the world's sake rednecks, get educated.

I had a favorite horse named 'Chico', that was a Quarterhorse/Leopard Appaloosa 8yr.old mare. I would not even imagining doing this to such an amazing animal. This is human depravity. For shame, Omak.

How many of you who are using the term "sick", "cruel", "murder", "abuse" eat meat? And no, it is not in any way different, eating meat is just as exploitative as what these people are doing to their horses. In fact, horses are less intelligent than some of the animals we slaughter for food.

didn´t know much about that race, but NOW ... it´s ... I just can´t say. It is more than just dangerous ... it is stupid! And I didn´t have any symphaty or compassion for the riders who fall ... It´s only the horse, who is the bereaved!
Why does such a thing, called "race", exist? The idea of a arace isn´t to kill the horse ... THAT is just murder!

Taz and I raced 18 times off this hill took 5 2nd places and 10 1st places neither one of us were injured he likes this race just as much as I do.. I wouldn't make a horse go down that hill if they didn't want to.. We train good don't over stress them and feed them well.. More horses a year break a leg or get seriously injured on flat track and jumping that this race.

I'm guessing ur a horse whisperer? How the heck would you know if your horse likes to go straight down a hill that he wasn't designed to go on ? Horses aren't ment to jump stuff too which ur right in that part. They probably wern't ment to pull carriages and carry stuff.

DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HORSE? comparing this to jumping or other sports isn't fair. Asking a horse to jump a fence 5' isn't "natural"- neither is this. That comparison doesn't make it right. It's a game of chances. The fact that 13 (or so) horses do this at a time & the injury/death rate is so high for those isn't even comparable to other sport. In a weekend jumping event with 100 competitors, maybe 1 or 2 will get a moderate injury. Not 7 out of 13 with worse injuries/death

The world is full of sick people. If they want to run a suicide race, why do they involve the innocent animals? They could just as easily run themselves and fall down the hill. This is just shameful cruelty, nothing more.

horses do not plunge to their deaths.... they are trained and prepared for this race, dont jus pick a horse out of the parture an run em. LOL horses have to qualify for this race, and if they cant do it they dont then they dont have to race. AND horses legs r fit and strong enough to support their weight. They are well takin care of.

@wangswangs you cant prepare a horse to slide down a steep incline with 15 other horses without doing it. And their legs can't be fit and strong enough to take 1000+ pounds on their tendons.

@wangswangs yeah they are well taken care of...and you can TOTALLY prepare a 1,200 pound horse to roll down to its death. Okay listen up, horses aren't meant to race down a hill. Horse's legs can only support 60% of the horse's body weight. NOT 100%. Your a fool to think horses can do that. AND BE PREPARED FOR IT. People these days are so ignorant and only think about themselves.
