  • for me, every day is a meatless day! :D

  • Throw some habaneros in that shit!

  • megan did you know that wochteschier sauce has anchoves ?

  • Meatless Mondays. What a great idea!

  • I applaud you for promoting Meatless Mondays, but WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE IS NOT VEGETARIAN. Jeez. Check the label. It has anchovies in it. And yes, that includes the exact brand Meg is using. I have used "Thick and Hearty" A1 sauce and hot sauce and extra spices in place of worcestershire sauce in recipes. Anyway, the recipe sounds great minus the worcestershire sauce and plus some TVP crumbles for added protein and yum. A for effort, Threadbanger.

  • doesn't organic =/= sustainable

  • IDK if this has been pointed out or not, but Worcestershire Sauce isn't vegetarian, it has fish in it (vegetarians don't eat fish, fish is an animal, and therefore meat)

  • When using canned foods (like beans or veggies) make sure not only to drain, but to rinse them. You take about 40% of the sodium away by rinsing them.

  • I've been a vegetarian for almost two years now and i've never looked back.

I'll be sure to try and cook that, looks delicious. (:

  • Ive been a vegetarian for 5 yrs, & that chili looks delicious, i'll have to try it soon. ^_^ & so simple!

I'm really glad u guys are promoting this lifestyle too. Its better for the environment/animals/our bodies/ & our wallets. <3 U guys rock.

  • I am full time vegetarian (still cannot aford organic food, though it might have something to do with my life attitudes :-)), so I was really pleasantly surprised to find this recepi on "Decor It Yourself". Thank You so much :-).

  • This coming up Monday will be my fifth meatless Monday :) I'm finding out new awesome veggie recopies!

  • Tofu is great in chili. Another way to cut down on the hormone and antibiotic overload is ditch the cheese and dairy. Im not telling you to cut it out all together but, if you cut it out every once in a while you will help your body and mother earth plus those cows.

  • @Bccaundefined I am a bit afraid to cut meat and dairy, are you sure one wouldn´t lack some important stuff? -I have problems to get all the right minerals and vitamins from my food as it is.., what do you recon? Thanks.

  • @finehomemadewine It really depends on what you need most. If its iron (I personally am iron deficiant) it can be subbed by green leafy veggies. you can look these up. I am a bit of a novice right now so I'm just kind of looking things up and subbing as I go. Sorry I'm not much help.

  • @finehomemadewine You won't lack anything at all if you just eat right. You can get protein from nuts, beans, darkgreen vegetables, tofu and soya meat. (Which is fake meat made from soy beans, very tasty.) (:

I really hope you will try it out, being a vegetarian is better for you, the earth and our animals. <3

  • also 15% doesn't make any sense. 1/7 =/= .15...

  • MMmmmm this looks so good, makes me rly hungry :3

  • looks good but worschestor sauce is not veg. It's made from fermented anchovies.

  • @loveyousodearly

There are some veg options and alternatives such as Henderson's Relish. But yeah, the one she used isn't.

  • @omnikitty aaah, thanks for letting me know!

  • Isn't this a little off topic?

  • She doesn't understand supply and demand at all. The more you buy, the more expensive it'll be. Everyone knows that. Also Worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it.

  • i made this and i loved it

    :]

  • I don't eat any meat, it's so much better for the worl and your body, livestock pollute the air, soil, and our water.

  • Wait... Can it be chili without actual chili?

  • I made this! it was so good! except I added bacon.... everyone got a kick at work that I was eating vegetarian/bacon chili! just sayin' it was even good on day 4. we got 10 bowls out of this recipe. well we added less broth and more veggies. thanks!

  • I was a vegeterian for 11 years but was having serious lack of protein and so I had to eat meat. I think its ok to eat white lean meat, just not every day of the week. Oily fish is a good source of protein as well.

  • I also cook chopped Kale separately for a good 40 min and add to chili, spaghetti, lasagna and anything else I can sneak it into. It's super good for you.

  • If you're going to make it vegetarian, why don't you try adding some flavor? :/

Also, Food Inc was not only meat! It was veggies too! Did ANYONE watch this movie?

  • You could also add TSP to your chili. You should definitely check out The Renegade Health Show for more great raw/vegetarian/vegan recipes and health info. I'm no faw foodist, vegetarian, or vegan by any means, but the information is great to help put you on track with a healthy diet.

  • @annisweet21 and displaced countless numbers of native animals by supporting a backwards agricultural system

  • my dad always says you are what you eat if you eat a whole bunch you are a whole bunch lol

  • Worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it... making it not vegetarian... just sayin'.

  • ooh yummy! loving the meatless monday idea, sounds like a great idea! i'm not vegetarian but i can do with a few days off meet per week :)

  • you should get ur own youtube channel.

  • Meatless monday??? That's a great idea!!! I love meat to much to become a vegitarian but I could more that easily cut it out one day a week :)

  • Why would you put soy sauce and sea salt in the same meal? thats doubling your sodium needs.

  • That is not correct cutting form.

  • Great job, thanks so much!

I know it's been mentioned in former comments, but Worcestershire sauce contains anchovies. So for vegetarians or vegans, I'd suggest Kosher, as it's fish-free, or making your own homemade recipe, which is super easy to find online.

  • Great recipe and I really like the idea od being responsible meat eaters.

  • Worcestershire has anchovey, the brand you have isn't vegetarian, it's pescatarian.

  • I pronounce Worcestershire sauce as Wuster-sauce! Am i the only one???

P.S. thanks Meggy-kins, loved the vid as always! xxx

  • Just so everyone knows, there are brands of Worcestershire sauce that don't contain any animal products. I'm a soy-free vegan (woo to not supporting Monsanto, but upsetting because my lack of Chinese food). Meg, the chili looks awesome except... where's the chili powder? it doesn't seem like it would be near spicy enough for me haha. I have many fave dishes. I can't choose just one. Shepherd's pie made with lentils and marmite gravy, Bruschetta, chole palak, mesir w'et, to name a few.

  • sounds good but Worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it. So if you don't eat seafood either be careful!

  • (sequel of last message)

Even though I would like to eat less dairy and eggs too, it's bloody hard to do so, and I'm a little worried I won't get all the nutritions I need, such as protein, iron and vitamin B12.

  • Since a few months, I'm cutting back on eating meat. I do it because it's healthy and it helps me losing weight (much meat = calorie bomb!). A while ago, I started with eating "meat replacers" at some days of the week. But during the last weeks, I only eat meat about three times a week. And when I eat it, I eat just a little bit.

Even though I have been a huge lover of meat, I begin to like the taste of meat less and less. I think that's a "psych effect" of my way of healthy living.

  • I Noticed that other people have already said this but:

Worcestershire sauce has fish sauce in it, which has fish in it... *therefore* not a veggie meal.

So i guess, don't tell you're husband, and never use it in his food again. Unless he is a 'vegequarian' or as 'nullie' said 'pescatarians'.

  • I was just curious, "follow the lead of paul mccartney and yoko ono" shouldn't it be "john lennon and yoko ono". Great episode!

  • This is not vegetarian as the Worcestershire sauce has anchovies in it. However, there is a veggie friendly version.

  • Go Veg Heads XD

  • doesn't worchester sauce have a anchovies in it?

  • Have you checked your local farmer's markets? They're cheap and (around here at least) organic.

  • I've been vegetarian for about 3 years now, and recently one of my vegan friends and I have started baking together, our new favorite recipe is a banana chocolate chili spelt muffin, its great and vegan, to replace the dairy, soy milk, and to replace to eggs, banana purée. They're vegan, fat free and delicious!

  • @Sowhattt Wow! Seems really cool. Can you post it's full recipe? I'm into eggless baking too. Please do?!

  • Looks yummy; has anyone tried this recipe yet?

  • I want some!!!

  • I appreciate this info, but... this is THREADBANGER!! I don't want to learn about how to make food, I want to learn how to make clothes!!! This isn't the right channel for this video.

  • @teddy2319

Threadbanger is a DIY website, that's Do It Yourself. That means anything from clothing to decor to cooking is included in that.

  • Should have thrown in some TVP, it would have been the bomb!!!!

  • I grew up eating meat and I agree, it's delicious...but I don't understand how anyone could eat American factory meat after seeing how it's produced in a documentary like "Food Inc. " It's barbaric and there's no respect or harmony in this new terrible system. A friend of mine gets his meat from a farmer in California who he knows (and he's seen the production) so he feels good about it. If I have kids, that's what I'll do. I'd rather have less good quality meat than lots of cheap, dirty meat.

  • I actually had a meatless monday by accident this past monday :) It was simple enough, why not do it every week?!

  • that looks like a good recipe to try...thanks. would you mind telling me where you bought that cool green pot you were using?

  • I dont lea and perrins as it has anchovies in it. But there are some great alternatives.. I like braggs :)

  • why does she keep moving back and forth while she talks?

  • FYI, worcestershire sauce is NOT vegetarian, is has anchovies in it.

  • that chili looks so good! i definitely want to try that! yum! and in exception for fish, i've already gone veggetarian :)

  • I'm a monster energy shot...two weeks left of school!!!!

  • so much for secret recipe.. -_-''

  • you can add bulgur. It imitates the texture of ground beef or quinoa to add complete protein.

  • funny because i'm having a roast today, muahahahahaha

  • @Partyywizard ummm who cares? it's not monday muahahahahaha

  • Chana Masala is one of my favourite vegetarian recipes. It's basically a chickpea curry, served over rice. There are several variations.

  • THANK YOU

  • great idea. i think this is a great persuasive call to action step even for those who aren't ready or don't want to cut meat out of thier diet. :)

  • man whats chili without meat?

  • @VAMPIRExGODESS

healthy..however you can substitute something like Boca or Morningstar ground crumbles in place of meat...or if you like something a bit chunkier something like Gardein "beef" tips... if you actually think chili needs "meat" in it. Trust me..you wont know the difference. not to mention that stuff tastes pretty good enough on its own. Even my uncle ( who is an avid meat eater) has trouble telling the difference.

  • @VAMPIRExGODESS try the morning star crumbles in the chile taste pretty good and it's not meat!!

  • Fuck vegetarianism.

  • that looked good:)

  • I've cut out meat 5 days a week :-)

  • ima vegetarian(just recently) and im about to die if i dont have meat! how do you stay a veggie?

  • @sniffercatfreak You might be craving meat so badly because you're not getting enough protein and/or iron. Beans are a great vegetarian source for iron. And seitan (a wheat-based meat substitute) has a good amount of protein in it and has a nice meaty texture.

  • @HopefullyShrinking or they just want to fill that delicious, juicy, void that only meat can fill.....just my opinion

  • @SkidRo123 Also possible... but I'm sticking with my initial reaction.

  • @sniffercatfreak I used to do the whole vegetarian once a week thing and over time I started to realize that I really didn't like meat as much as I used to and just cut it out of my diet. I still eat meat on rare occasions (when I go to someone's house who does not know I'm vegetarian, so I eat the meat to not be rude) but I can honestly say that I don't like the taste of it anymore. And I used to love meat! Don't worry, it'll be a cake walk soon.

  • @sarrellie Me too! My partner is vegan, and after about a year or so into the relationship ( after me teaching him how to survive on things other than pasta and deep fried chips), I came to really enjoy the food he was eating over my own. I havn't touched meat in years, infact the majority of my diet is vegan, which is only ever interrupted by occasional processed foods with things like 'milk powder' in them.

So I'm going to back you up, "a cake walk' =D

Thanks for sharing your story. xx

  • Trader Joe's FTW!

  • That chili looks super duper nummy, I must say. <3 I went vegetarian for Lent, actually, and because of it, I try to not eat as much meat as I once did. :) I'll have to try this recipe as soon as I can. Thanks, Meg!

  • you no what ould be nice with that coconut cream cooked with the peas firstly yes i'll try that thanks

  • We have those jars in the beginning! (:

  • Worchestershire sauce isn't vegetarian. It's pescatarian, for the record. It contains anchovy sauce.

  • @LAthethug A vegetarian usually just doesn't eat meat and some cut out eggs and milk. Most eat and use animal products like gelatin, yogurt, icecream, and as you said the sauce. Vegans don't eat any animal products.

  • @LittleSelfia

I don't know any vegetarians who eat gelatine. You might as well be eating meat, it's not the same as eating dairy.

  • @LittleSelfia Vegetarian is NOT the same as pescatarian. A vegetarian does not eat fish, a pescatarian is someone who eats no meat but eat dairy, eggs, and fish, Lacto-ovo vegetarians who eats no meat and no fish but eats dairy and eggs, Lacto-vegetarians who eats no meat, no fish, no eggs, but eats dairy, and finally there are vegans who eats no meat, no fish, no eggs, no dairy, no animal products or by-products. This chili is not vegetarian, it's pescatarian because of the worchestershire.

  • @LittleSelfia umm.. No, vegetarians dont eat gelatin.

  • @nullie There are different types. There are some who eat diary and eggs, some who eat gelatin, even some who just don't eat red meat. Vegetarians vary.

  • @LittleSelfia Yes, I am aware that there are different types but a "vegetarian" that eats gelatin, white meat, etc. is not one of them. If an animal has to die for the product, it is NOT vegetarian. Try looking up vegetarianism on wiki.

  • I was a vegetarian for 2 years and one cookbook that I found totally awesome (and that I still draw inspiration from) is called "The Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes" and has some really great, stick-to-your ribs vegetarian/vegan recipes.

Also, just a note: most worcestershire sauce isn't vegetarian - it has anchovies in it. Just make sure you check the ingredients list first, they don't all have anchovies in them, but most do.

  • I'm a pescatarian :/

Only I only eat fish if I have to

  • veg heads all the way!

  • Nic recipe.looks yummy.

I lov ehow you say Voila!

  • how bout meatless everyday :) haha

  • we buy animals from my cousin who doesn't use hormones its way better quality meat when you buy straight from a farmer that you know

  • Funny...your talking about "meatless Monday" with a big picture of a ham behind you...

  • What you could do to have hormone and antibiotic free meet is go deer hunting!

  • mmm chili but it's not a secret anymore!!!!

  • awesome!! :D

  • Tasty!!!

  • worsteshire has fish

    FISH=MEAT

  • @TheFictional1 then don't add it

  • Awesome! More recepies!

  • Andrew Bird album cover behind you = awesome!

  • if you rinse your beans after you drain them it removes most of the extra sodium

  • I'm veggie! And I am a proper vegetarian as I don't eat fish!

  • @fraserarts99 Doesn't seem proper to say "proper vegetarian" as a fish eater has its own category as a pescatarian...

  • @silverbracelet6 I said that because so many pescatarians call them selves vegetarians!

  • @fraserarts99 Perhaps pescatarians call themselves vegetarians simply because its far easier. Not everyone knows what a pescatarian is, and not all pescatarians cares to explain the definition and/or their food choices again and again and again.

  • chili without chili powder??

  • @sploserbaby If you really want heat, you should cut up some jalapenos and let the flavor mingle in the pot with the rest of it (depending on your preference of chili powder manufacturer it may be what it's made of anyways, except if you use local jalapenos you cut out the huge manufacturer's carbon footprint: Happy Earth Day!).

  • You can also use Brown rice to eat your chili you have then a omplete protein with the beans. Also give some love to us Flexitarians :) We are omnivores who at just a few meals of meal a week. So I have been doing meatless days for years ;)

  • meatless mondays?!?! yes this is fucking awesome- i'm a vegetarian(i was a pesetarian for a year before)- and i will not be using the worcestershire thanks Meg!

btw. i love that there are other out there who consider fish meat one of my friends (who is a pesetarian) keeps saying see's a vegetarian when she still eats fish- there is a total difference!!

    But anywhos.... thanks meg!

    Lovas.....

  • ive been a vegetarian since i was 5, so about 15 years! lol that chilli looks good :D

  • i am a vegetarian. only ever had meat once in my 14 years and it was on accident. and btw fish is meat

  • Your nails look great (so does the chili)

  • oo that looks good.

might revise it so it's a bit more veggie, but other than that it looks simple enough.

  • This is NOT VEGGIE, worcestershire sauce contains FISH!!!

  • @ps3widow183 there are different types of vegetarian... i consider myself vegetarian but i still eat seafood. you should check your facts before you comment.

vegans dont eat or use any animal products, and there are vegetarians that still eat eggs and fish, or either.

  • @altrocker07 You're a pescitarian then, not a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat any animal eat, white or red. Also it's pointless being pescitarian unless you eat free range, organic products.

Pescitarians are basically unbalanced versions of omnivores that focus on a specific 'brand' of meat, so you're not really saving any animals like that at all, if that's what you're after.

Btw, I'm an omnivore, but I eat free range + organic meats as much as possible.

  • @altrocker07

Definition of vegetarian: Abstinence from eating meat.

Check your facts before you comment in the future.

  • @ps3widow183 Well technically, It is pesco-vegetarianism.

  • yum!!!

  • Plain Bean Burritos are cheap and so YUMMY. the spicy black beans from whole foods are super tasty. Goat's Cheese on pasta while peas and other vegetables. Tofu stir fry's are really simple. And frozen veggies are just as good as fresh.

  • worcestershire sauce is made with fermented anchovies.

  • "you are what you eat"..... im a block of chocolate then

  • Comment removed

  • here's a better link heavymetalstest(dot)com(slash)seasalt(dot)php i guess the news was also talking about mercury. i didn't care much what it was seeing as it NEVER crossed my mind to consume or use sea salt.

  • worcestershire sauce contains fish :(

  • This looks like a great recipe! We live near Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods, so we get all of your meats from there. Also, we don't read pork or beef, and only occasionally we eat chicken or fish. I cannot wait to try this out! I am sure my family, friends, and I will love it!

  • im so making this one day :)

  • This is such an attainable way to make a big difference. The recipes look delicious! Thank you Threadbanger for a really great Earth Day episode!

  • I'm veggie, and I love it <3

  • Awesome episode, Meg! Thank you for encouraging us to take our food into our own hands!

  • The recipe was a pleasant change and hopefully there'll be more posts like this in the future....side note though, it's pronounced "Wuster" sauce...

  • Just plain practical truth! AWESOME! and a recipe!!!! AWESOME! Num, num!!!

  • Is organic really worth it? or is it just a marketing ploy? and is it worth the price? also, isn't there organic produce and other products that just come from China? How do you know whether you are getting your money's worth or just buying crap? Do you run around the grocery store and make a list of the organic products and research all the brands one by one? I think it's better to buy as much local as you can and try cutting down on meat.

  • USDA certified organic foods are not always organic. What are the standards for someone to label there produst USDA certified????

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil is better! XD

  • Well... If an organic farm is close to a non organic farm, the non organic will polinate the organic so, in essence, if the non organic has anything in it's genes (either modified genes or genes that got modified because of the toxics/chemicals), they will transfere to the organic and they are not so healthy anymore.

  • @mickysantos

Actually the organic food wouldn't be affect even if a non organic farm would be near it. Non organic food doesn't have the natural properties of pollination and germination as organic food does the seeds aren't even functional anymore because they're bred differently they're all hybrids. Try growing a watermelon seed from a watermelon you bought from a store, it wont germinate.

  • Do you think she'd still be able to talk if she was wearing a neck brace? I swear she can't say three words without bobbing her head.

  • @falcione you maek a video then. We'd LOVE to see how perfect you are on camera. Asshole.

  • @falcione haha. It's distracting.

  • To each their own; being a vegetarian or vegan is a fine lifestyle choice. Personally meat is a small part of my diet (~25%) even though I'm an active outdoorsman. The problem I have is when people make raised lifestock a moral issue - and here's why. Without the consumption of meat and the business that relates to this, what percentage of these animals would never even be born were it not that they are destined for the stew pot. I'm all for organic farming and free run animals.

  • Canned vegie chilli is horrible. and my father intends on putting bran flakes in the chilli he makes, uck. anywho thanks for the vid. :P

  • NO MEAT Yea!!!! it is so hard to find good meatless food so I always pack my own!!

  • I eat vegan about 1/3 of the time, and I'm lacto-ovo pescatarian the rest of the time (though I make exceptions for family/special occasions, because I hate to be a pain in the ass). Two of my favourite things in veggie cooking are seitan and quinoa. Seitan, which is made from wheat protein, is versatile and tasty, and mimics meat quite well. Quinoa is a grain that gives body and character to rice, oats, pasta, and lasagna. Delish protein from a plant. Get it in ya!

  • Worcestershire sauce isn't vegetarian....it has anchovies....

  • @roro36463 Vegan worcestershire is available - I have two different brands of it in my cupboard :)

  • I'm Catholic so I already abstain from meat on Fridays. I had no idea I was doing something good for the planet. :D

  • @Catholictenor thats only during lent.

  • @t7g6s8 Actually, Catholics are obligated to abstain from meat on Fridays throughout the year. Abstinence and Fasting is observed during Ash Wednesdays and Fridays during the Lenten season.

  • I eat vegetarian meals about half the time, but I can't be scheduled to one specific day! I do Meatless Whatever Days of the Week I Feel Like it :-P

Chili recipe looks delicious! Chili is one of my favorite things to do vegetarian since it usually uses lots of beans to give it an iron content similar to or better than using beef, and that's important to me since I have a deficiency.

  • Isn't Worcestershire sauce made from anchovies? It's something you need to keep in mind.

  • Organic standards are not really falling into any specific guidelines in the US. So unfortunately even if you buy organic you do no really know what how organic it is or to what standards they qualify organic as. I think the real trick to being eco friendly and sustainable to to shop local. Working Class Foodies, totally has it right by buying their food from local farmers and farmers markets and buying what is in season. Get to know where you food comes from, and who brings it to you.

  • More cooking videos please!

  • But...the chile recipe has no chile :O

  • At our uni, in February, about 200 people pledged to go veggie for a month and all the vegetarians went vegan. It was such a great experience and forced me to cook lots of new and varied meals instead of just skipping the meat from my pasta sauce. I would definitely recommend it to everyone!
