missed it by 30 min after traffic court in joliet...got hit by hail near nap/plain rd at 111th st..drove down to look myselfnext day and was shocked..church and school GONE!..a friend living nearby got debris in his yard..crazy day
I was camping at the pure rod and gun club on 126 that day we had just left town for home around 1:00 pm because the weather man said rain was coming and we didn't want the canvas in the trailer to get wet.. i guess a wet trailer was least of our worries that day
that was a bad day i will never forget it. i was going to afriends house who lived by the high school and saw the black and green clouds and decided to go back home good thing we did
I was four when this happened. My family and I were on our way home from the big city because I had an appointment prior to a surgery. This event scarred so much of my life, I've just recently been able to start finding information on what happened.
haha.. my family lived in Plainfield when that happened, and the tornado only missed us by a block. I was a month from being born, so I survived a tornado before I was born xD;
And here I am in North Carolina, age 18. Weird how life happens. God is good.
My aunt, uncle, and cousins were in this, they live off Lily Cache. Most of the homes on their street were destroyed but they only had pieces of wood stuck in their house. My uncle saw a storm wall and the sky was green and black so they decided to get in the basement. They heard a really loud freight train noise. He and my aunt happened to both take the day off, luckily they got my cousins in and downstairs. They said most of their neighbors weren't home, luckily.
if that tornado had not done any of that, plainfield would not be what it is today...that place was a slum and now its one of the nicest areas around! i remember watching that tornado from my aunts back porch and was just amazed at the power of it
its not my fault you got beasted by a tornado XD

If you see plainfield today you would never imagine that a huge tornado hit it 20 years ago. I rememeber the seeing the highschool just torn down.

Plainfield was nowhere NEAR a slum in 1990. It was a wonderful small, quiet town.

i remember driving on that road after that. Really strange...looked normal, then just a flattened area about 500 yards wide, then normal again.
