  • Andre said this was the toughest match physically, he's ever played. Both guys were helped into the changerooms after the match & while they were both waiting for the docs they were both cramping up everywhere. Then Baghdatis reaches out & holds Agassi's hand in acknowledgement & respect. To hear Andre tell the story gives me goosebumps. Great story !!!

  • All these people saying he's faking, and milking it, have clearly never played a long endurance sport.. Baghdatis is a showman, but why would he limit his movement on purpose when its 4 all in the 5th.. Idiots.

  • Tumbs up if u are here because of his biography !

  • anyone know where to download or buy the full match????

  • Baghtatis is bluffing !! i saww him many tmes petending hs injured

  • @MsKimo28

This is ridiculous to say that... he cannot move anymore on the 3 last points of the game. Do you think you'd fight for 3h30 to stop running on those crucial points to bluff ?

The first cramp was lighter, and when it comes back, it's clearly killing him.

  • you notice how he is holding his right thigh at first and then the left when gets up?

  • Youthink with his every serve its killinghim? :(

  • Pathetic serving by Agassi...

  • Bagdhatis was really pissing me off with his fake cramping in this match. If he was cramping so badly why was he able to finish the match and keep hitting ridicoulus winners. Agassi never choked. He was way older, and still beat his ass.

  • @MizerisMoney you are fucking retarded! he was going for winners because he couldnt run, he was pushing through the pain you dumbcunt. He gets cramps all the time you fuck

  • @dayne120 looked like he was running pretty damn good to me you stupid fucking cuntbag of a hairless ballsac!

  • @dayne120 he. was. cramping. its called pushing through the pain. i know you probably don't know what a book is but read the book open by agassi, they were both in extreme pain. go suck some more cock

  • @dayne120 Not to be disrespectful to Baghdatis or anyone here, becaue he is an extremely good player and had a positive attitude, whatever the situation, but he has had trouble with cramps before, not just this match. I've seen him cramp in a few matches.

  • @davd1986 I never said he didn't get cramps, read my previous comment, 'he cramps all the time'? Either you are really stupid or you just didn't see that. lol

  • @dayne120 Take it easy pal, I read your comment quickly and posted what I have observed in Bagdhatis matches. No need to call anyone stupid.

  • @davd1986 Not your pal buddy, don't act all high and mighty, just stating facts.

  • @dayne120 If you think about it bro, every human that has ever lived has acted 'all high and mighty' at one time or another. This categorizes 99.9% of youtube users/commentors, so you can cut me some slack for not agreeing with you, even if I didn't read the book, but I did hear from a number of people that it's a great read and very intriguing.

  • @davd1986 As long as you agree.

  • his last win. and yes "Open" will be the one of the best books you will ever read. even if you dont like tennis

  • I would have been ticked off if people were booing my cramping. How classless. I bet Baghdatis was upset. There's no excuse for people booing somebody when they're hurt. Unacceptable.

  • Just red the first chapther of "Open" and wanted to see it - pretty cool to see the actual match, after reading about it ..!

  • his wife STEFFI GRAF in the stands...epic couple.

  • just read the 1st chapter of his book and its cool to see this match =)

  • @DenisTheMennnace

I'm watching the US Open right now(2011) and got inspired to go back and watch this because it's one of the greatest games(tennis "game" definition) ever. I read Open last year and it is one of the best sports autobiographies ever written. I watched the match live and when he opened the book with the events of that day it confirmed to me that it was as special as I remembered it being.

  • wasn't his right leg cramped? then why was he getting his left leg inspected when it was the changeover?

  • his book is absolutely extraordinary

  • like Agassi mentioned in his book.. never sit when you have a cramp! great book btw

  • I love the way Andre Agassi writes about this match in his book. With such honesty of a true champion.

  • Andre Agassi OPEN = 100 % epic

  • Marcos Baghdatis is a true sport hero.

  • he moved perfectly fine, cute trick though

  • Comment removed

  • What an incredible and gutwrenching game of tennis

  • baghdatis is such a fucking legend!

  • which pixel is agassi

  • @themoogoat white shirt

  • Baghdatis is a legend!

  • @biggestfanofroger What makes you say that?

  • did the umpire warn baghdatis when he started to get cramp?

  • @Nadalion yes, he did :)

  • come on markos...u rock..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Marcos Roland Garros..

    He's the best!!

  • well baghdatis was playing against an idol of his imagine that, its hard for him, nevertheless he is an amazing player

  • Agassi!!!!!! You are America Hero. Your Tennis life is not end, you still have chance to beat Djokovic win US Open champion 2011. I have secret tennis weapon for you, I believe you, you are the only one US tennis player can broken Djokovic 36 winning record.

  • Even 36 year old Agassi hit one of the cleanest backhands ever.

  • Baghdatis was faking it!

  • Holy shit read the book & have been trying to find stuff all over you tube that corresponds with what i read . . . . . . . . . . absolutely sublime

  • @samsonmorrell me too isnt it such a great book?

  • @samsonmorrell same ive been reading OPEN and i wanted to see the match he was talking about. AMAZING

  • i just read the first chapter too and had to see it...very well written (which i wasn't expecting)

  • CAN'T SEE SHIT, QUALITY SUCKS SHIT !

  • It's strange, because Baghdatis looked like top 10 or even top 5 material up until this match. After this match, he sort of went away. Now he seems to be making a slight comeback, just beat Murray, but it's almost like Agassi in his final breath just beat the game out of him.

  • anybody know what model of Fischer racquet Marcos used to play with back then?

  • @Robearwgl He probably still plays with the same racquet. They just get updated paint jobs so people will buy the updated versions. Some players like Djokovic play with a racquet from a completely different company than the racquet is painted to look like.

  • when I really fell in love with Marcos, even after the Ausie open finale. most beautiful forehand, even better than Roger

  • "Open" was a fantastic book!!

I gotta say, what a champion he is.

But it's sad how he hated the game, yet made a living out of it...

  • @smileandlaughalot mastered it.

  • @Robearwgl That, indeed.

  • I agree, "Open" is a fascinating book... I never read a book so fast.

  • his biography is one of the best books ive ever read.

  • @pt4sal I totally agree with you!

    It's AMAZING!!!!

  • @pt4sal by far

  • @pt4sal who's?

  • Hahaha Agassi should have done a drop shot serve. He missed out on an epic trolling opportunity.

  • @weej267 LOL Yeah.

  • I think Safin was a more complex personality than Agassi. He had a more complex game too. unlike agassi, safin had a big serve, and pretty comfortable at net. and more power too. too bad he didn't win more titles. but i don't think that was important to Safin.

  • The book is truly amazing. I too had to watch it for myself after reading it and cannot believe how intense it becomes after reading about it first.

  • I am reading Agassi's book. It is an excellent book indeed. relive it after reading the book is just awesome!

  • @desertoo23 Haha, I finished the book in 5 days. I think its more amazing if one grows up playing tennis like us.

  • All the details are in the book;) classic.

  • MEGALE!!!

  • Best ball striker that ever existed, Andre Agassi. He hit the ball so easily and was so strong off both wings.

  • Agassi was the most charismatic player in the last decades. Only JM was in the same liga.

Andre if you read this ;-) Do you remember 20 years ago, Davis Cup against Muster in vienne, i was there, Thanks this was a fantastic show.

  • When he was interviewed by Mac in the post match, I swear Andre was a heartbeat away from announcing he was going to withdraw from the tournament right then and there after that match.

  • @zisinoluyum You are stupid idiot and that's why you gonna leave you otside from EU. We never gonna let you to be EU member.

  • @zisinoluyum fuck you mongol shit! Back to mongolistan ugly mongol!

  • just lost Clement in the US open today, what a total bum.

  • I get sad when i watch this! On the one hand i'm devastated Agassi no longer plays and on the other hand it's such a shame Baghdatis had all those injuries. Baghdatis dominated the junior division and in terms of talent was way ahead of Murray & dare i say it, even Nadal, but those 2 years of injuries really destroyed the guy. He went from top 8 to 130! Now he's back to 20 but he was tipped by many to be the man to challenge Federer's dominance before King Rafa came along. It's a shame

  • @NadalIsTheMan

    yah Baggie had real talent

  • Just happened to happen across this match on youtube from another video. Lucky to have seen this match at the stadium. Remember McEnroe coming out on the court and saying it was one of the greatest matches he'd ever seen . Only bad part was I got back home at 3 am since it went so long.

  • People who think this was fake cramping need to think again. I've had cramps like that on several occasions back when I was playing (although not quite at that level...). It's dehydration and nerves.

  • i was readin too

  • what a beast. playing with a cramp

  • Seems like Agassi was trying hard to hold a big laugh.

  • I love Andre, but he was way past his time in this match.

  • baghdatis is an 'artist'....

  • faking a cramp?????

  • what a great player baghdatis ,, you need to give him some serious credit.

  • The injury looks bit of fake to me. (Just what I think, no offence)

  • @kawaihui I can see that it may look fake, but at the same time it also looks typical of cramp. In Agassi's book he talks about being in the training room after the match and Baghdatis writhing on a table with multiple leg cramps, whilst both were waiting for the doctor. It was very genuine.

It also shows one of the main problems of Baghdatis. For all his immense talent, he isn't great at training. This is why he suffers phsyically in long matches.

  • @NandoMasch yeh, just watched another video on youtube.. federer vs baghdatis aus open final and he cramped in that.... i dont think he cramps either, if not he should have been an actor because ive gotten cramps in tennis before and it looks exactly like that, your muscles get really tight

  • @AceGuitarR7 he's suffered from injuries and cramping throughout his career. he's just returned from a 2 year injury so he isn't acting. The poor guy went from top 8 to 130 in the world because of injuries. Now he's back in the top 20 and climbed all those places in the space of 10 months

  • @NadalIsTheMan sorry, obviously sarcasm doesnt come across on youtube

  • @AceGuitarR7 sorry, english isn't my first language so maybe i misunderstood the tone

  • bif fan of two of them.. i have read the OPEN the autobiography of andre.. it was great..

but i have to say in this match... marcos would have won if the cramp didnt appear..

  • If you want to become a GREAT MATCH PLAYER go to my channel ( 2knowfun2 ) and watch two videos: World class tennis (part1/2) and (part2/2) . My two videos will teach you how to become a great match player... my two tennis videos have covered pretty much everything that is important in tennis...from "how to hit high quality groundstrokes" to "match play"... Everything important about tennis is compressed in my two tennis videos... Watch and become a Great match player

  • oNE OF THE MOST EMOTIONAL GAMES I HAVE EVER MATCHED. I REMEMBER THE CROWD WOULD CHEER EVERY TIME BAGDHATIS WOULD FAULT ROFL

  • what a heart marcos has!!!

  • Whos the guy at 1:14? he looks really familiar...

  • My favorite Agassi year was 1995. He played incredible. Not quite McEnroe 1984, but close.

  • I remember watching this game , it was like 6-7 AM here and i remember i got so disappointed when i saw Marcos getting cramps..

I mean , the fact that he got back in the game after being 2 sets behind against Agassi is just brilliant!

  • Me 2 so far i lov it..

  • I am reading andre aggassi's book right now and he describes this match so well. its hard to beileve :/

  • im reading his book too, but i dont see where baghdatis sits down and andre thinks its a bad idea, he just kinda kneels

  • @mehmeh58 he sits at 9:47

  • Agassi says that he works for those cramps......

  • exelenteeee!

  • that was such agony watching poor baghdatis play hurt :(..... goooo marcos :)

  • absolutely amazing i remember this game and i remember yelling at my screen in my first apartment at 1am: go agassi!

  • Marcos always cramps

  • I agree, it really is weird that Bags cramps so much. I wonder if it is genetic. The only player that I can remember that cramped like that was Chang. I can understand Chang's cramping more based on the physiology of his body type.

  • yes there was definetely no questioning Changs physical conditioning yet he still cramped alot. But nadal sort of plays Chang-esque tennis and he never cramps. I suppose it is probably due to genetics but i cant say that i think Bags is in the best shape

  • I read the intro to Open, and it puts these types of events into such a realistic light. Usually when you watch tennis, you just think "they're pro's, its like nothing to them, like its automatic." Getting the back door access makes it so much more real.

  • @gosciu555 I just started reading the book, got to this part and thought "hmm I wonder if I can find this on youtube.." Sure enough here it is, and exactly as Agassi describes it point for point.

  • baghdatis with cramp plays better then me at 100%

  • @tahmed78

lol he is almost playing better than agassi at 100%

  • @TheBlackArias Agassi was not 100%, his back was shot.

  • @TheBlackArias Agassi was nowhere near 100% and he was 36, Marcos was 21..

  • why not to finish here his carrer???it would be great..

  • best match ever

  • his leg is getting the cramps atm with ferrer

  • I was on Amazon and got to read about 20 pages of Open and was quite delighted since normally you only get to read 5 or so but the last page I got to read only made me wanting more when, to be honest, I didn't expect much. I love Agassi, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the time when anyone relatively famous writes a book I blow it off and imagine it to be $hit so this surprised me. I want that book really, really bad now.

  • Agassi was lucky there but he's 10+ years older than Baghdatis so everything goes in the right way.

  • Reading open, on the 10th chapter, had to, had to, had to, had to, had to, I just had to youtube this video to believe what he was talking about in the first!

  • so am i ..what a book

  • Same with me. I started the book this morning... Damm it's good

  • I got the audio biography quite enjoyable

  • i have just read the beginning of "OPEN" so I had to watch this match again

When I was watching live on TV I thought, that Baghdatis was faking the cramps.

Did Chang do that vs Lendl?

  • @ulizinho i also resd OPEN... its amazing!

  • sos to be ignorant cos I havnt got book, but what does aggasi say about this match? What happened in the locker room? I remember watching this just in awe at how both guys could change direction with thier backhands so easily. it was just X-court, X-court,X-court, winner, X-court, X-court, X-court, winner, it was soooo good to see

  • @Jamus182 they held hands, no fingers interlocked so no homo, but yeah. they were watching highlights of their match, and baghdatis pointed it out and said "look, look what we did" or something along those lines. they were both laid down on two benches and held hands there.

  • i read this part of the book man what great sportsmanship to each other. this was a very classic match!!!

  • I also just finished the first part of the book and said "Shit! I gotta go find this!" God bless youtube and its generous users.

  • I finished reading it!

One of the best books I've ever read.

  • quality??

  • i got agass's book where it tells everything about this

  • me too

  • I used to love Baghdatis play..But now it just seems like his game just faded Away..!!hope he makes a comeback in 2010..!!

  • I just started reading it too.

    Agassi is a legend.

  • Just started Agassi's book too & I had to check it out as well. That part in the locker just showed how classy both guys are. Too bad some people need to make bigoted comments about it.

  • bagdathis groncho de mierda

  • Yup....just finished chapter 1 myself now, and had to see it for myself.....

  • @Nielferreira Me too !!!

  • @Nielferreira Me Too! LOL

  • @Nielferreira same haha

  • @Nielferreira i m here or same reason

  • @Nielferreira yeah, me too!

  • To read AA's description of this match and then relive it is priceless. The new autobio starts with this match, because I believe this was Agassi's final victory as a pro. Agassi said he was all but done after losing game 1 of the 5th set, but saw the injury timeout and got new life. He also said a 5th set breaker would have killed him.

In the training room afterward w/ no one around, both men lay on tables just a few feet apart. Baghdatis again extended his hand for a gracious hand shake.

  • not just a gracious handshake, they shared a dudemoment and held hands. personally, i hope to experience a moment like that.

    no homo.

  • @pitbull103 And Agassi was like "Do you have any money"?

  • @DestroyerAlexandros Do you mean Agassi "asked" something? If anyone asked for money, I doubt it was Andre, who was filthy rich by that time.

  • @pitbull103 Watch the Hit for Haiti match and you'll know

  • holy crap, bagdhatis let too much acid build up in his legs.. thats insane never seen that intense of a cramp before.

  • hes back and better than here i reckon.....

  • i dont know if the crowd was laughing or the crowd was worried

  • really sad watching marcos go through qualies but i hope he gets back on game...he has some injuries problems, he keeps getting injuries and he is losing part of the tour, has happend in 2008 and 2009

  • And you always forget Marcos

he is one greatest tennis player of all time

Bagdathis was cramping, try to play in that condition ¬¬

  • What has happened to Marcos. His ranking is dropping so low that he will have to go through the qualies.

To me, his conditioning was just so so. He is great for tennis. Hopefully, he will get it back.

  • what an act!!!

  • wasnt this match part of the last 3 that agassi played?. i watched this and loved it also!. miss agassi on tv i loved watching him in the good evenings that used to be in the 1990"s.

  • Yes it was, it was his second last match.

And it was good to see Andre win so dramatically in one of his last matches.

  • I remember this as one of my favorite tennis matches ever! It may not be considered one of the "greatest" matches by the experts, but I loved it. There is nothing like night matches at the US Open.

  • I disagree that Agassi is the Michael Jordan of Tennis. Sure, he may have had a more dramatic and fun to follow career, but that doesn't make him the greatest. Right now Federer is the best of all time and before him it was Sampras. Both of them have the titles to back up their incredible talent. I like Agassi, don't get me wrong, but Sampras and Federer are in an untouchable category of their own.

  • Sorry but Federer is never going to winn the Davis Cap and neather the olimpinc gold metal

  • and sampras never won the rolland garros...

  • Federer has won an gold medal in doubles, which just shows that he is the complete player. Unfortunately Switzerland cannot compete with other big countries like the US, Russia, Spain, Australia, and Argentina. When Agassi won the Davis cup, he was on a team with Courier, Chang, and Sampras. Still, Federer, Wawrinka, and Allegro have a chance to win it. Davis cup doesn't demonstrate individual achievement, it just gives players the opportunity to represent their country.

  • well if we judge the greatest by wins? sure Id agree with ya. Yet can't deny Agassi played well into his 30s unlike sampras or federer (yet), won a career GOLDEN GS unlike both cept feds doubles medal and agassi had the flare to be loved world wide! I wouldnt shrug agassi off, hes def one of if not the gr8st ballstriker all time. Personally id call wilt chamberlain the greatest b-baller ever. MJ had gatorade and nike lol boosting him.

  • The best Tennis player ever all around. When people mention basketball its Micheal Jordan. When people mention football its Joe Montana. When people mention tennis its Andre Agassi. Sure he didn't win as many titles as Sampras, but he was the most likable and Iconic athletes of all time!
