Really good sounding drums! All too often I see people trying to make up for poor tones by miking and EQing the crap out of everything. Having it sound really good with one or two mikes is the sign of a good drum sound.
I don't need to say anything about the drum work, as it speaks for itself.
However, a point of interest for me: how did you record this? I don't see any mics? Did you just have a couple of really good condensers sitting over the set?
Quite possibly THE best drum cover of this song on YouTube. I am quite the avid Rush fan, and this is simply amazing...in my opinion, absolutely flawless. As I watched, I kept thinking "what's he gonna do next?", and sure enough you kept me in suspense all throughout. To sum it up in one word: perfect.
good drumming man! nice cymbalsounds, but the toms sounds a little too flat on my opinion, but that's a question of taste of course. keep up the good drumming!
Rush has always been a special band for me; I started playing the 2112 album (poorly, lol) when I got my first drums at 17. Keep on rockin' out the vids, man!!! 2 Q's for you:
1.What heads are you using?
2. Is that an LP Ice Bell on your right above the floor toms?
Just discovered your stuff while trolling for Guitar riffs- Awseome. Equipment question- Are those DW piccolo Toms up top above the Hi Hat?
I have several kits, one a monster with 2 Bass Drums and want to scale down a bit. You look to have Neils current (Post Freddie G) set up. I've got more like his old one with concert Toms up top.
If they are Piccolo Toms are you happy with them?
Awseome cover by the way. Hemispheres Extremely under rated.
Hello, thanks for the comment. Yes my kit is definitely modeled after Neil's "Post-Gruber" set-up! Anyway, the first tom on the left is a 8" DW piccolo and the second tom is an 8" regular DW tom. Yes, I'm very happy with the piccolos...I tune my smaller toms pretty tight and the piccolo tom seems to blend in seamlessly with the other toms! I don't think the same effect could be achieved with bigger sized, or lower tuned one-headed toms.
Nice Ride...I like the new drums...too sweet! Very good cover your toms don't sound as bad as you think! what are you using to record yourself? how many mics?
Hey Jakester, It's a VERY permanent coating Paiste calls "Colorsound", it doesn't leave blue marks on your sticks, and it actually seems to resist stick marks more than a regular cymbal! The bell actually has more stick marks than the bow. The Colorsound coating also makes the cymbal sound drier. In my opinion, that cymbal is the best thing ever cast from a piece of bronze!
yea i get how every1 thinks rush is the greatest band ever. but can u do more of other bands? just saying. im getting kinda bored. i know everyone is gana be hating on this comment too . but im just saying i like rush to but c'mon
I'd have to say personally im not a total fan of the ride, but for u it is perfect as it still has a bit of a wash to it, and to me u seem to really dig in to a ride cymbal and bring out the lower pitched wash. its a great pick

two questions.......
where do i get that thing that makes the DING sound at about 3:06 and how much does it cost?
How do you get the song perfectly over the drum track, and what editing program do you use?

"Prelude" = the most epic opening in the history of progressive rock. Or Rush's history for that matter!
