The issue of American Cinematographer devoted a wonderful article to the making of the film, it may have come out in 1984. Usually they don't cover DP's who aren't American--all the tech crew on this were Russians--but here they did. It is like a key insight to how everything came together and offered all the preproduction stills, thousands of them were shot, that fixed the look before they rolled the 35mm film in New York.
