  • Why not get a private developer to fund and build the train?

  • @HindiReader

The reason, for not letting private sector and private market forces do the job, is that private sector is vastly inferior to public sector when it comes to developing infrastructure. Not surprisingly, this is demonstrated by the fact that there simply are no private interests willing to fund and build the train.

Market theory is only good for so much. Some vital areas are better left to the government.

  • wow she is a hot AND clever politican!

  • America NEEDS bullet trains. Make this happen!!!

    GO California!!!

  • ALL ABOARD AMTRAK!!!

  • Driving to practice from chula vista to pacific beach, I've noticed that even San Diego is beginning to get crowded... We need this bullet train. I have family and frends in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, an Sacramento. I wanna see them but I would hate to drive that far, and flying just isn't my thing.

  • I hope United States choose Shinkansen of Japan. We should co-develop super high speed train, which is most suitable for United States.

  • So do I. You'd think that anyone would choose it after seeing its safety record.

  • I know San Francisco and Los Angeles vicinities are congestion prone, but what about the central valley? Is Fresno having congestion problems? who would use high speed rail to commute 50 miles to work? If Fresno grow to the size of Atlanta or Chicago, I would say CHSR makes sense.

  • Many people commute from Sacramento and Stockton to the bay area every day. If they could get there in 1/4 the time, I think a lot of people would want to do it. Also consider that this project is a minimum of a decade away, whatever transportation problems we have now will be much greater 10 years down the road. Another appeal is the potential for vacation and tourism. For much less than an airplane (and much faster) you could make a day trip from Sacramento to L.A.

  • Did you know that in the bay area There replacing the Oakland Baybridge side, there going to put in the new bay bridge and take out the old double decker Steal trust bridge.

  • Offer commuter passes for CHSR like Japan does for its Shinkansen, and it makes perfect sense. It would also encourage Fresno to grow as more people see it as a viable alternative to living in LA or SF.

  • Well done California. Hopefully the rest of the nation will follow your lead.

  • Not only that, the tourism potential is so grat. I was reading National Geographic and an ad for California Tourism services... the only thing I saw there was Disneyland.

Now with the train, the train itself would draw interest now only from tourist but also from investors looking at California as a state for innovation and progress, Disneyland, Chinatown, San Francisco, Amherst Castle and so many other things.
