The name has a strong biblical connotation as that region was called Palestine since the roman conquest more than 2000 years ago. It was called Palestine in Jesus' time and that is way the name is important in Christian tradition. Of course because of our governments absolute support for Israel today we tend to deny any link like that. But it is a fact.
