  • Leave the door open and get a pit bull

  • I just bought THE GARAGE SHIELD.It was really simple to install and really inexpensive. And my Emergency Release lever is still functional. If it is not functional when there is a fire then the firemen will cut it into pieces to get into your garage. And you may be liable if any of them get injured because of this malfunction!!

    Check it out...THEGARAGESHIELDCOM

  • Electric Tape.

  • Use the plastic tie wrap, as shown in the video, and make it so no one can see into the windows. It might not be 100% secure, but the more difficult and time-consumming you make it the less likely the burglar will want to hang around and keep trying. Make sure you also have motion-activated lights outside your garage, to disuade nighttime burglary.

And keep your garage doro closed even if you are at home so you won't have any spontaneous uninvited guests 'dropping in'.

  • Just better hope you don't ever need to disengage the opener in an emergency.

  • "That's very nice"

  • they can still pull the emergency thing without the cord

  • A zip tie can be used instead of the metal, This would make it easy to remove in the event that the emergency release need to be used. I agree that even with proper installation there is enough flex in the sections (depending on region of the country) for the break in method to be used. However, in coastal areas where hurricaines are a threat, it would be hard to break in, since the sections wold be reinforced with braces for protection from hurricaines and apparently burglars as well.

  • I weld my garage door closed in the morning, and cut it open at night.

  • You overlook the fact that the release cord is in place for emergency use (if door pins a child when closing - or similar) as well as in the event of power failure etc.

Door is more secure - but less safe.

  • Well, my garage doors have windows in them as well, but they have tempered class. Is your opener a Chamberlain, or Craftsman? I know garage doors/openers very well, and I recognize that trolley. (Black thing connecting to the chain/cable)

  • That's great/innovative, but to be perfectly honest, if your garage door is installed properly, then there won't be any room for anyone to stick anything up through the top.

  • @mikeo2222 - thanks Mike - You are right. My door has windows. I can't figure out why they ever made garage doors with windows - they are useless and let in a lot of sun and cold air

  • @mikeo2222

I checked my door and it is installed properly. however there is enough play and flex in the panels to easily deflect the top panel 1-2 inches to get a tool through. Also with windows, tempered glass is good, but i replaced my glass with obscured polycarbonate panels which are virtually unbreakable.

  • @bry806 If it's installed correctly then 1-2 inches of flex is unacceptable. With proper track and operator adjustment there should be NO flex. No matter what part of the country your in.

  • @bigbwd thanks for the info.

  • @mikeo2222 Actually, that's not true at all. I have an aluminum door with no windows, so the crooks just bent in the top of my door with a crowbar.
