i absolutely loved preforming this song. one of the highlights of my senior year! "the secret kingdom of the water" is amazing...I miss this so much, words can not express
I think they did extremely well considering that the natural trend in demographics has seen the high school population drop dramatically. When I was in high school there were 300 students in 4 choirs... now there are 200 students in 3 choirs.. and yet Chris Fettig brings out their talent so you'd never know the difference!
How can you expect to hear consonants when it's being filmed on a camcorder? As for pitch problems, it's hard to tell if it's the choir or the microphone on the camera messing up.
I sang this song with Campbell University's choir. We did it a bit slower, had fewer altos, but stronger basses and sopranos, so it sounded a bit different than this version...
But they did very well. This is a difficult song. They look like high schoolers...is this the case?
Hi, I was a student in this choir when we did this piece. To clarify I thought the biggest thing we could improve on was matching vowels. We overdid the consonants in my opinion. They just don't come through on the camera, as well as a lot of the musicality.
I love how people diss others, really. It's very entertaining to read. But really, give the choir some credit for doing as good as they did. I thought this was a breathtaking. At least they tried their hardest and sounded absolutely amazing.
Thank you for your commnts. I, being well trained vocally, and having performed numerous times,(with superior rating) think this choir did an excellent job. We must remember this is not the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I agree with you, give credit where credit is due.
Overall, it was ok, but then again I am very picky. The lack of continents annoyed me. There where only one or two pitch spots. Whitacre likes a lot more of the zzz sound when you sing, for example "is in". I definitely think your beginning is a lot better then your end. Overall pretty good but still room for improvement.
Actually, it is quite common to sing of the continent Africa in African American spiritual pieces. For example "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"; in that piece "home" refers to their homeland in Africa. But anyways, of course I meant to type "consonants", thank you for catching my mistake.

Sorry, we'll try harder for larger land masses. He tried Antarctica, but it just didn't work out in the end.
