Lol I totally pissed myself laughing at 01:20 when you said "bacteria.. 'FUN-JYE'.." LMAO. Although you are very smart, please note that is not the correct way to pronounce fungi.
Guaranteed, I picked up my pronunciation of "fungi" from the professors at my university, but you definitely had my interest piqued, so I looked it up.
Dictionary[dot]com's listing on "fungi" consistently provides both pronunciations in every one of its references. So, according to Mirriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary (among all the others, that is), we're both right.
Thanks for the learning opportunity today - and for calling me smart! :)
@tuanews And were your professor's American? There a numerous words that Americans say that are pronounced (and spell) wrong in terms of the proper English language.
@jaries12 Oh, for sure, and I definitely don't deny that American's mess up English grammar, but that happens everywhere. (eg. English people say "ah-loo-min-ee-um" instead of "ah-loo-min-um" for a word that is spelled aluminum, not aluminium.) Due to that, I didn't want to lean on past experiences to dictate "correct."
Since I posted last, I checked out "The World Book Dictionary" published 1969 in Chicago, London, Sydney, etc and its /only/ listed pronunciation actually lists it: fun'jī.
@tuanews Oh, that's funny you say that because currently I have "ALUMINIUM" foil in my pantry. Once again, in America you have Aluminum... maybe it was too hard for you guys to have so many syllables in a single word lol jk... kind of.
Interesting about that World Book Dictionary... however, anything that is published in America is going to have American spelling no matter where else it may be published. Just my two cents.
This is BRILLIANT!! :D
