actually, this is mde in a 3-D animation software with vocaloid characters..

You can download them off of (i'll send you the website), for free

It's called MikuMikuDance.

Pick the one that says "Multi-Model"

Also stay tuned for newer versions

You move bones and do stuff to make the characters move. They also interpolate between frames which means if you go from frame 0 and leave Miku's arm down, then go to frame 30 and miku's am is up, then play, her arm goes up, 30 frames per sec

you can place the original movie behind it so it's easier to imitate ( if you're imitating moves from certain anime and such ) else it's pretty much skills that you'll gain over time as you use the program. ^^
