There's so many things I don't like about this guy. Senseless shifting techniques, bad bowings. Disregard of the rhythms actually written in the music. Koussevitzky was a bassist. He wrote it the way he wanted it played. So play it the way he wrote it.
this is part of why i love to play the bass. it turns me on to new music. before bass i never thought i would listen to jazz or even classical music. a great piece
Why does he hold the bow with his hand upside-down? The Frog is huge, so I assume it's a German bow rather than the French one I use...is that just how you hold German bows?
no way.. it's much easier to switch to electric bass from upright bass. the spacing of the notes on upright is far different from electric, the switch is easy as pie, i've been playing for a while now and my switch to electric was very easy
I'm an electric bass player who will be soon learning upright. I've ready a lot about double bass, and one thing I've learned is that it's a rather demanding instrument to play. I've never personally played one, but from what people have said, it's not quite as easy as it may look.
When you begin its rough on your arms. And for some, the fingers. Its easier if you go from electric bass because you sort of understand the meaning of the word blister. Haha
Personally I prefer Arco because of that, though Pizzicato can produce a nicer sound.
DB was so fun! I played this piece in 8th grade. It was an accident enrolling in "strings" in 7th grade. I thought I was going to learn to play guitar! I learned the DB quickly but lost interest because of sports throughout highschool. I regret it because I never liked sports much either. I might pick it back up...
I watched every DB youtube video last night in order to be inspired again in performing arts.
@4zOmBiE2sLaYeR0 Yeah fuckin right man. That's years of experience. Learning how to play notes on a page is one thing, understanding the tone and mood or just the instrument itself..i i highly doubt it.

The end sounds very Italian. It makes me hungry for pasta :)

Forse sarebbe stato meglio con l'arco all'Italiano (francese) più elegante, come tutti gli altri strumenti ad arco.

yes.

@Gyrogyro
That is, indeed, how you hold a German bow. That's why the frog is so big.

Intonation isnt always perfect - why is it that this seems to acceptable for double bass soloist but not any other soloist? Good performance!

i play the cello so i wouldnt know...but on a scale of 1 to 10, ten being hardest ever, how high would this be?

@4zOmBiE2sLaYeR0 not really. I've been practicing my butt off for almost three years and I'm not nearly as good at clarinet as this guy is at bass.

@4zOmBiE2sLaYeR0 I still have a ways to go before professional music....
I'm pretty sure I never said that I was IN any professional level orchestra.
Just sayin', I've got a few years left of high school before anything else.
