i am a titanic fan but i do own avatar. my biggest problem with avatar is that it was a tech film. as a result, what made it watchable in theaters can't be said for dvd. it becomes far more apparent when watching on dvd that the plot is unoriginal. some people may like it and i hope you enjoy it the way i enjoy titanic, but i just don't feel avatar.

James Cameron said himself that he had this vision and story long before the technology was available. That's why James Cameron wrote everything down and then tucked it away in a drawer until it was technologically possible.

Both movies are great, but I think Titanic deserves more of its fame than Avatar simply because the movie delivers more than what Avatar offered, which was a fun adventure, something that many movie has. Titanic on the other hand not only have stunning visual but also a beautiful love story that was merged seamlessly into history (real life Titanic).

WRONG, Pocahontas is a real person not a disney creation and Avatar was an idea concieved in 1988 and Cameron wrote the 80 screenplay in 1993 and Pocahontas was released in 1995. Cameron wanted to film his script after Titanic but then he decided to put the script in a drawer as he was waiting for the technology to do his film justice for a decade.

I reckon Avatar is one of the worst unoriginal films I've seen. If I had to choose between Avatar and Titanic I'd choose Titanic because its a better story. Besides the first two Terminator movies I hate James Cameron as a director. He is one of the worst directors out there and mocked by his peers in his industry. I will admit he's good at getting money from people but that's about it.
Both have their own, unique qualities. I choose Avatar, mostly because of the imagery and the strong message it is trying to convey. Yes, Ferngully, Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas were the originals, but Avatar just takes it up a few notches due to todays technological advances and standards.
Avatar was written before Pocahontas in 1993 but Cameron put the script in a drawer and had to wait a decade for technology to develope better and satisfy his vision. Would you also compare Avatar to Princess mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Dune, Heavy Metal, Fantastic Planet, LightYears (Gandahar), Willow and Star Wars?

i didn't see avatar in theaters so i didn't see it in 3D, and i didn't think it was that great, and Titanic is still my favorite without a doubt. Avatar has a good storyline but the thing that set it apart from other movies were its effects, and if it didn't have that it would not have been very good. Titanic actually sold more tickets than Avatar did, but Avatar just made more because of the prices of 3D tickets. Avatar is a good movie, but Titanic will always be the best
Don't forget True Lies and The Abyss dude, never forget those. JC has been my third favorite director and a director responsible for my childhood, you wouldn't know what it was like seeing Aliens, T2 (4 times and owning nearly all the merchandise) and The Abyss on the big screen like i did as a kid leaving impressions on me. He's a modern master like Spielberg, Nolan, Jackson or even the awesome animation master of today Hayao Miyazaki.

WRONG, Pocahontas is a real person not a disney creation and Avatar was an idea concieved in 1988 and Cameron wrote the 80 screenplay in 1993 and Pocahontas was released in 1995. Cameron wanted to film his script after Titanic but then he decided to put the script in a drawer as he was waiting for the technology to do his film justice for a decade.

@Johnlindsey289 that really doesn't make any sense, because titanic came out in 1997 and Jurassic park came out in 1993.. so the ground breaking technology was there to create objects , monsters and other worlds and make them look even more real.. i think Jurassic park 93 beats cameron's film's CGI by a long shot. So to me, i wouldn't trust all that BS about ''just putting it the side''.. waiting.. what ever.. who cares.. still sucked.

Titanic was good I will give him that. But Movies that rely on special effect and not story can fucking die. I have seen Avatar many times. By that I mean the same story over and over and over again as the plot for plenty of other films. I'm sick of hearing it. The faggy love bullshit has to go too.

I reckon Avatar is one of the worst unoriginal films I've seen. If I had to choose between Avatar and Titanic I'd choose Titanic because its a better story. Besides the first two Terminator movies I hate James Cameron as a director. He is one of the worst directors out there and mocked by his peers in his industry. I will admit he's good at getting money from people but that's about it.

Both have their own, unique qualities. I choose Avatar, mostly because of the imagery and the strong message it is trying to convey. Yes, Ferngully, Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas were the originals, but Avatar just takes it up a few notches due to todays technological advances and standards.

You must rent Princess Mononoke, Dune, Heavy Metal, Fantastic Planet, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in The Sky to see why these movies also inspired Cameron's new movie. Castle, Mononoke and Nausicaa are from the creator of Ponyo/Howl's Moving Castle/Spirited Away Hayao Miyazaki.

i didn't see avatar in theaters so i didn't see it in 3D, and i didn't think it was that great, and Titanic is still my favorite without a doubt. Avatar has a good storyline but the thing that set it apart from other movies were its effects, and if it didn't have that it would not have been very good. Titanic actually sold more tickets than Avatar did, but Avatar just made more because of the prices of 3D tickets. Avatar is a good movie, but Titanic will always be the best

JC has been my third favorite director and a director responsible for my childhood, you wouldn't know what it was like seeing Aliens, T2 (4 times and owning nearly all the merchandise) and The Abyss on the big screen like i did as a kid leaving impressions on me. Now Titanic I lost count of how many times I have seen it and I never get tired of it, my friends tease me telling me I have the guiness record for watching titanic. TITANIC IS THE BEST!!!!!
