R u confusing a Jake break with an "engine brake"? Obviously those aren't equipped with consumer cars. 2nd he'd have to depress the clutch to gear down!
Even if it was a brake failure, for a manual car, it isn't that big an issue, especially for one with such a huge engine. Engine braking, best way out of this mess :D
@ferraris26 he actually did attempt to gear down at 0:11, now that I see it again, but clearly at whatever speed he was, it woudnt of slowed him enough to make that corner. That is a highspeed straight
@blaknoizee Might have depressed the clutch while braking, most drivers do it. He'll have no engine braking then. and true he couldn't have made the corner even if he put it in first, lifted off the throttle and dumped the clutch all of a sudden, it would have slowed him down enough not to have the almighty crash :D
@fordmanmudracer In all seriousness, do you know what engine braking means....coz' if you did, you'll realise that a bigger engine will brake a lot harder.
@ferraris26 sure do, and with a dig engine in a small car, engine brakeing does not work, because it has to work two ways, the engine speeds up, and the car slows down. with a smaller car, it is harder to speed up that engine. the only way engine braking works is if the car and engine are in proportion- small car and small engine, or big vehicle and big engine
@fordmanmudracer Disengage and lift off, engine slows down. Then shift to 1st, dump the clutch. The engine wants to match wheel speed, but is too slow, and the wheels too fast. The wheels drive the engine, and lose their energy, slowing the car down. So bigger the engine, more energy will be lost, so the car will slow down even better. In a small car, the engine braking isn't very apparent unless done sharply. Might have broken the Viper's clutch, but is less expensive than the bodywork ;)
@ferraris26 Do me a favor: throw a car into first doing somewhere north of a hundred and tell me how controllable it would be. And no, it wouldnt be worse, but it wouldnt be better. By all means try to slow down using the engine, but dont do it stupidly
It wasn't brake failure, he was going too fast and was inexperienced. If you hear at the end the passenger had to tell him to turn the ignition off... You get a bunch of inexperienced kids that think they can go from their mom's corolla to a high end sports car and stuff like that happens.. those cars don't drive themselves like the mommy mobile does.
What do they mean "lose" the brakes? There's is no such thing as sudden fade. You would have to break at least 2 lines to lose brakes instantaneously.
@pf126p It's hard to tell, but something mechanical can break and cause a sudden and total failure of the system. The master cylinder can fail and then you can sometimes have nothing all at once. Even the pedal or rod to the master could have failed. A friend of mine had the brakes fail on a car he built at MidOhio because the pivot bolt for the pedal came out...
@llllXeallll because there was a 1 in a million brake failure? You think the Dodge Viper is known for brake failures or something? You have no idea what you are talking about.
@tigerswede3 uh have you ever been in a viper? i was in an srt10 by somebody i know is a good driver and he was barely able to keep the car straight becuase it has so much low end torque and almost no traction. So everytime he hit the gas (especially when turning) it throws the car sideways even if your trying to keep it straight. i said this was another reason, mainly as a joke, not the main reason. (also on a side note i just don't like the way the viper looks, and theyre tiny as hell)
it shows no one really lap here. This guy never had a chance to make the corner, the brake failed! But as for as i am concern, he shouldn't try to steer in that corner, because he his going way too fast for an hairpin anyway. he should have gone straight out we're you can see the gravel box ahead of him.And if somebody want to tell me in rwd car you can make the turn, forget it, i know how a rwd car act, because i have a 1200kg 320whp nissan skyline r32 that i am tracking and drifting.
The guy had less than a second to act, he was already committed to the corner, unfortunately his brakes failed. There was no time for him to think. And im sure your car makes you an expert, just like every douche with a big turbo on his japcrapbox is Michael Schumacher.
@deancarr10 If youre talking to me, i just said he had no chance to react, i dont care about that japcrapbox, it his just a fun car to drive on the track, it does nothing but that. OHh and micheal shumacher isnt what i am into, i am a gt sprint guy.
eh lol quik instinct from the guy in white lol as you can see drivers mistake but if he had quiker instincts he wouldnt have had toaled the viper eh good thing its just a viper
Okay, we'll put you in a 400hp car with no brakes, and we won't tell you until you're hurtling down the main straight towards a corner. See how you take it.

With all due respect, that's total crap. Even if you lose brakes, you don't steer into a high speed turn with a RWD car - especially this one. The chances of making that turn successfully with a talented driver is 90%, brakes or not.
I've seen countless novices do this same routine, even after they've been trained.
It's 90% driver error, 10% Dodge designing a piece of shit car.
Are you saying that when you're coming at a turn in a RWD car...you don't steer? Something about not steering into a turn seems crazy to me. It's sort of instinct, when you want to get around the corner.
90% driver error? The crash happened because the car had no brakes. If the car had brakes, it would not have happened. With the brakes out at that speed nothing could stop it. That makes it 100% Viper error ;)
You watched Tokyo Drift one too many times. You start e-braking on a professionally run track, when not part of a drifting contest, all you are gonna get is a black flag and a personal escort off the property. The driver did make at least one error. While the vid is unclear, there should be a gravel trap straight off the corner, he should have headed for that straight on instead of trying to save it. Then instead of a wrecked viper, he might just have a stuck viper.
but you made that type of turn NOWHERE near as fast as that guy was going.. look at what the vid say.. top end of 4th gear..e was probably doing at least 120.
Fair question... with the ignition on, your fuel pump is still running. However enticing it is to blow up a Viper, race gas burns are not a pretty sight!
I kinda wondered if it was a pay to drive deal or summin... I would fucking HATE to have a copilot like him.. he was reaching for the shifter and shit.
But would always slow the car down a bit, or give the opportunity to spin it around but reducing the gear and hitting the gas. Well, at least that what I think I'd try to do, but then again you can never tell untill your in that position.
His brakes failed. You have a split second to diagnose a problem and react to it in a racecar. This isn't his fault at all. Unless its his personal car that he maintains.
man american cas have big engines and acceleration more than any other.....But they dont have handlings.......THIS DOESNT MEAN THAT VIPER OR CORVVETE OR MUSTANG ARE NOT GOOD!!!!!with 4th gear on a turn and with that engine power is very difficult....!

Anyways, asphalt is for getting to the track, dirt is for racing on.

number 1 is "top end of 4th into a corner is just stupid" point number 2 why the fuck did the dumb fuck cut the corner its just americans thinking they can drive...
But one thing I dont understand, the moment he lost brakes he should have diverted the car away from the wall - even if he made the car glance it (rather than hitting head on). :s
Losing brakes is only an excuse ..... this was an inexperienced driver forgot to slow down and geardown in time. The instructor attempt with the left hand advise the idiot.....crash
thats when your supposed to either, use the engine to slow you down(drop the gears) or spin it or use the e brake if it had it, or use all three, dumb guy just tryd to turn?
LOL, Dodge quality.

dumbass..the brake pedal is in the middle not the right
DC5Pro 3 years ago
The video says he lost brakes, not he stuffs up.
But one thing I dont understand, the moment he lost brakes he should have diverted the car away from the wall - even if he made the car glance it (rather than hitting head on). :s
Playtechy 3 years ago
Losing brakes is only an excuse ..... this was an inexperienced driver forgot to slow down and geardown in time. The instructor attempt with the left hand advise the idiot.....crash
Only One thought...the viper...:(

I'm extremely surprised that they survived that to the extent they could just jump out and be fine. :O

good news: that guy can proably afford a new viper.
bad news: that crashed viper is STILL proably worth more than what you're currently driving.
